Playstation Spider-Man (PS4) - Part 3

How Arkham-ish is it?

Combat, similar but way more options within the framework of what is possible, given the character has more options than Batman for 'dispersing' with said enemy but gameplay is way more free-flowing than ANY of the Batman games IMO. To be fair, I've only been playing for around an 1 hour tops but for me, it's vastly better.

Man the web swinging and all of that is so smoooooth. I have the timing down just right it is amazing flying around the city. The combat is also very smooth and fun once you get adjusted to it.

Nice. Had my eye on this for a while but wanted to see what the general mood was before making the purchase.

Did getting used to swinging in Web of Shadows help the experience in this one? From what I've seen, swinging seems pretty comparable between the two games.

The thing with relying on different view is you might come to a different conclusion after playing a while longer than Mandon did.

I’m definitely still getting used to the combat. For example when I want to grab an object to throw it doesn’t work as fast in a fight as when I just do it on a random street with no one around.

As others have said too, unlike Arkham it doesn’t automatically jump from thug to thug. You do have to be more deliberate. The fights definitely aren’t easy or I’m just getting old.

Simply. Best. Game. Ever. :susd:
It's certainly one of the best superhero games of all time, maybe the best but it's too early for me to tell just yet. It's rare for me to play a game that I can't wait to go back to each time I turn the console off. The last time that happened was GTA V five years ago and it's happening again with Spider-Man.

The crimes are infinite right?

Yes! :)

Was it though? I saw the statue and didn't see anything that wasn't shown before. But I didn't get a good look at it, so maybe I just missed it.

It was actually. If you look at the statue there's a reference to the mystery character.

Has anyone else been alternating suits practically every other mission? I like so many of them that I can't stick with just one between the main suit for this game, the Classic suit, Homecoming, and Iron Spider.

Out of the suits I've unlocked I'm mostly wearing classic, advanced, and scarlet. I don't know if you've tried this but you can switch suits mid combat or mid swing or mid anything really. It's dope. You don't have to wait for breaks in the action.

Oh sweet lawd almighty. I've died and gone to gaming heaven. Just played my first 40-50 mins and got Kingpin back in the Raft and been to lab and helped out. Still learning navigation and button sequences for the 'ideal' conclusion to certain scenario's of both combat & traversal, and being as kack handed as I knew I would be but it's insane how good this game is, frickenn' loving it. Now got to swing by the police station. At this point are their any side missions I'm missing out or not completing or is it story mode only at this point and wait to be told/registered on HUD ?

If I remember correctly it's still story until after the police station you're about to encounter.

How Arkham-ish is it?

What exactly do you mean? I'll try to answer.

It's a AAA game that does Spider-Man justice in both character, story (thus far), and overall game mechanics much the same that Arkham did for Bats.

I'm only about 10 hours of play time at this point but it's extremely satisfying. The combat mirrors Arkham to an extent however it's quite different. It has the same challenging aspect to it that feels incredibly rewarding when you pull off the kind of moves the game is capable of doing.

Actually yes I would say so. Web of Shadows was a favorite of mine. I can see the comparison. I’m feeling very comfortable now after a few hours with traveling around the city and with combat. I actually felt pretty comfortable with it after the first main prologue mission etc. Challenging but easy to get a hang of if you focus.

Cool, I'll try to keep that last part in mind.

Glad to hear you all are liking it! So jealous of all of you, not gonna be able to play it until I'm home from school for the winter. Been watching a lot of gameplay and the story and gameplay are blowing me away.

Anybody get to the city hall mission yet? That was a big surprise, I'm really liking where it's going with
Miles' character and the way Peter feels like he should be there for him. Eager to see where this goes but I think it really works well as a way of making the two of them in each other's world in a natural way that totally makes sense for both of them. It's honestly a lot better than it is in the comics so far. I don't like the way they just carried over Miles' origin in the comics to the main universe where it's "I'm Spider-Man because the Spider-Man of my universe died and I failed to do anything, but now I'm in this universe where Peter is still ok but I guess I'm still Spider-Man too!" it just loses any punch.

Ah you gotta be kidding! Just went on YouTube to watch that launch promo they released yesterday again and one of the related videos was "SPIDER-MAN PS4 ENDING" right there on the side with a pretty damn big spoiler in the image. Really?

It was amazing how Marvel got Lois Lane into the game as Spider-Man's love interest. It was generous of DC and WB to loan her out to them!

Kidding aside, I am enjoying the game so far.

Youtube suggestions, what can we do about them?
I know how the story ends, and been mildly tempted to write it here for the last two days.

Love love love the game so far. I think almost every past Spider-Man game needs a special thanks for basically being the framework for this. I see so much of Spider-Man 2, 3, Web of Shadows, Shattered Dimensions, and both Amazing Spider-Man titles in this. They perfected every thing that worked in those. And they took inspiration from Arkham, which is always a good thing. It does suck having to get used to hitting O and not Y for counter and even not X for dodge like in those. The swinging took some getting used to since web zip and sprinting buttons are all different from past Spidey games. Only gripe is the jump, which is too small of a jump. Not even a double jump was added. The charged jump is great but it is either you barely jump at all or a bit too high, even with little charge. Plus it is hard to manuever him when using it unless you run but then the leap is usually too far. It'd be nice to be able to use it when doing the casual run and not have to choose between standing 100% still or sprinting.

Back in for another hour just now and am slowly building elements in both story & additional gadgets but my 'complaint' and it's not a complaint, just a 'can I breathe yet now please', is there is just too much going on at once, if that can be labelled a 'bad thing' but this is on me, not the game. As I've stated, I'm not good at games in terms of movement or button combo's and using them to the best of their ability so it'll take me much longer than others I suspect to get all running smoothly in terms of what to press and when to press it. Feel like I'm winging my way through at the moment. For example, haven't been able to catch a moving 'thief/robbery car' yet, all have escaped me, trying to run them down on speed using webbing & swinging. No chance. So that's something to pin down and get better at. Got my first upgrade for use in battle and I'll be buggered if I can incorporate it into sequencing of take downs when available.

Unlocking back packs and creating a lock/pathway to next target is a 'god send' as ever on games like these (to give you some kind of insight to how bad I am at games, I struggle with the amount of what's going on in Lego Incredibles, so yeah, this is a challenge :funny:)

Just taken down first Fisk Construction site and saved. More to follow later. Hope all going well for everybody.

Now I want Marvel Comics to do a God of War cross-over. :funny:

I think the biggest compliment I can pay this game, is that I never want to stop playing it. It's addictive, immersive and quite simply, you are Spider-Man in this game. There is no comparison to previous Spidey games, this is definitive.

Just finished the mission where the demons attack Fisk's construction site and noticed that
