Playstation Spider-Man (PS4) - Part 3

I love that this character and game are now canon. I look forward to see him meet up with the main Peter

I am using:

  • Kinetic Power Cells
Increases the rate Focus generates.

  • Discharge Power Cells
Perfect dodge temporarily increases damage.

  • Full Charge Capacitors
Increases damage when your health is over 100.

I use the same first two as you and for the 3rd I use the decrease melee damage.

Man, it took me way too long to beat this combat challenge unscathed. ='D But it's also my fault for limiting myself to only 2 gadgets.

Nice vid and good job. Those Demons are pesky. That's my warm up challenge when I first start playing the game--try and complete a Demon warehouse without taking damage. It's difficult. They're fast on the trigger and those axe wielding guys are a pain. Usually takes me about 3-4 times before I clear it damage free. I still haven't gotten to the story part where I can beat up the Sable cretins. They look even more difficult. It's good though, I enjoy the challenge.

It's already an iconic iteration of Spider-Man, probably my favourite ever with SSM. The sequel can't be here soon enough.

cannot get enough of the webswinging mechanics in this game, its so responsive.
pretty much just got the Taskmaster challenges left as i still need to unlock a few of the high tier suits

I love the cel shaded comic/animated suit so much it looks gorgeous in the day light
i kind of alternate between that, the original suit, homecoming and spiderpunk
for night i'm all about 2099 and iron spider

You know what might be fun? The game developers clearly get it. Wouldn’t it be great if they came up with a unique villain, never seen before in the comics, just to add their own spoke to the wheel so to speak? I can already see the video game costume becoming one of the classics.

Oh speaking of classics I got Spider-Man in his jocks finally. So much fun. And very rewarding when he has to pick up cars. Now I know why straight guys flip their lids when something becomes in their view unsexy

Once they've covered most of the existing material they want to cover, I wouldn't be opposed to this. And I think if they came up with something good it would soon be integrated into comics anyway.

That’s a good thing though! Build out the universe instead of relying on the same people all the time. I’m not saying have a new villain as the mega villain, I mean have at least one, even small mission, with a new character

I went back and played a bit of Web of Shadows and Spider-man 3 after finishing this here game. And the first thing you notice is that Spider-man......has no weight. Movement is intensely jerky because Spidey feels like he is made of paper.

Although it was awkward at first, I'm glad Insomniac made Spider-man feel weighty and heavy in the air. It makes the web slinging all the more satisfying.

I think that was the 1st complaint Insomniac got from the 1st gameplay trailer. The swinging looked floaty & weightless. I can't remember though, I want to re-watch it one of these days, but I think they listened to complaints then fixed it.

Adding to what you said, Spider-man 2 looks different after this game. The way this game's webs stretch from his weight, it makes SM2 look like he's swinging from solid white sticks .

Just picked this up on my twitte feed. Next to the EPN.tv news that Marvel Games are thinking about creating A Video game universe which all the marvel characters interact similar to their comic's & movie verse. This good news that they were nominated for this award.

I'm about 65% complete and just finished breaking into Li's office in the main story. When do I get to do some challenges so I can start unlocking more suits?

I think I promised @Mandon Knight I'd tell him which suit is probably going to wear the most after a week of making that promise because it is a spoilery choice, but it looks like I will still keep it to myself looking at a number of posts here.

You're very close to the challenges being unlocked. I can't remember after which story bit that it happens however you're just about there. Right after you complete a certain mission, it will be nighttime and you'll get a call from Yuri asking you to check out something on a roof top.

Picked up the Spider-Geddon comic yesterday. Pretty cool that this Spidey is already being integrated into the comic book multiverse.

Thanks. I really want to use that armor suit.

It deserves to win best storytelling, if only just for the arc with Peter and Ock alone.

I was watching a video of all their scenes together and I got teared up a bit. Partly because I was maybe a bit emotional today but they were very solid character writing. Now I really look forward to how they handle the whole Norman and Harry situation

I thought the story was okay. Not as great as everybody claims.
It ran into the same problem we've seen before of Doc Ock's evilness being a result of the arms themselves, which I don't like. I also don't think the story was quite as original as other people thought -- it combined elements of existing Spidey interpretations pretty well. But it didn't bring anything entirely new to the table. The one thing it did better than any other Spidey story was Miles. It actually made me care about him, unlike every other attempt by Marvel.

I think if anything, I credit the voice acting for selling the story over the story itself. Pete's voice actor was phenomenal.

I thought the arms thing worked fine, I never had any problems with it in SM2 either though. Similar to SM2 but more explicitly said that they allowed him to act on his inhibitions that he's kept inside for decades festering. My enjoyment for the story didn't come from any sense of originality but like you said, the remixing and combining of tried and true Spidey concepts. I don't think there's much room for originality anymore, I'm pleasantly surprised when something new can take all these old ideas and make them feel fresh by switching it up a bit but still having it feel identifiable, yet new. That's gotta be a difficult thing to balance. That comes into the handling of Miles' origin and relations with Peter, it was 1000x more elegantly done than the comics, I feel like the way they integrated him into the main comics universe robbed him of any of his real urgency as a character.

This was nothing like Spider-Man 2. In that movie the arms literally were their own entities like a devil on Otto's shoulder speaking to him. In this game they were the equivalent to the lab accident in the comics. Damaging his mind to the point it removed his inhibitions and released the nastiness inside him. This was spelled out in 50 foot high letters about the neural interface damaging his mind. They were not sentient things coercing him in any way. It was all Otto's rage and hate unleashed.

Spider-Man 2
Peter: "These things have turned you into something you're not. Don't listen to them"

Spider-Man PS4
Peter: "Think of the man you once were"
Otto: "The weakling? The loser? That man is gone. You can't save me, Peter"

One was able to listen to reason from Peter. One rejected Peter's pleas and embraced his villainous identity. One died undoing the evil he had done. The other went to prison after poisoning the whole city and refusing to give up the cure, which resulted in Aunt May dying. There's your difference right there between the two versions. The only similarity between the two versions is Peter idolizing Otto as a Scientist. But the PS4 version had a much deeper relationship that went beyond Scientific admiration.

On a side note, great stories are not great because of originality. They are great because of good writing. In this case good character writing.

I agree. It was a mediocre story that was enhanced by the directing, acting, animation and music.

The first half of the story is dedicated primarily to Mr Negative and the demons rising to power after Fisk is locked up, which I liked. As someone who isn't familiar with Mr Negative, I thought he was very interesting here. The second half of the story however, is comparatively rushed and overstuffed with undeveloped plot points. The Sinister six come and go so quickly, and accomplish nothing. Mr Negative got more screen time than the rest of the six put together. They felt like cardboard cut outs that were thrown in last minute for fan service.

Otto infecting the city with devil's breath came out of nowhere, and was completely out of character. Why did he do it? To make Norman Osborn look bad? The only excuse is that the arms made him do it, because until this point there was nothing to indicate he would murder millions of people at random.
What purpose did this biological attack serve in the story? At this point, the city was already in chaos, filled with escaped prisoners and Sable agents. Did we really need a plague on top of that? A city wide plague should have huge consequences on the story, but the plague has no noticeable effect on anyone or anything except Aunt May.
Essentially, the entire city was exposed to a plague solely for the purpose of killing Aunt May. What could have been a significant plot point was wasted, and now it can't be used in the future.

I understand many people don't agree with me here, but the death of Aunt May was cheap and undeserved. I've been known to tear up during movies, but this death didn't illicit any reaction in me what so ever. It was a disservice to the character, and it only served to add drama to an otherwise underwhelming finale.

huh, it say joke quoted me and now I can find it? where's page 100?\

I can see it on my I phone 6 plus but it's gone here.

The taskmaster challenges are definitely hard. I’m not a fan of those kind of timed challenges.
