Playstation Spider-Man (PS4) - Part 3

Alrighty, so I've been playing the DLC for one and a half hours, maybe a bit longer and I don't if it's just not my day and I am easily irritable today, but I am not really having a good time. There seem to be numerous, little things, that just really annoy me. And I still don't care about MJ. I liked Yuri Watanabe, I certainly like Felicia Hardy, but there's just something about MJ that rubs me the wrong way.

Do you have to play as MJ or do you only play as Spider-man. I admit I didn't really enjoy playing as her or Miles.

You get to play as MJ again, but I saved the game at that point so I didn't play it myself yet. I'm just annoyed at her, because she appears to be a lot more involved with Spidey, now that they are dating again. And Peter seems to rely on her a lot for information or coming up with solutions for problems he could solve himself. Though I might make it sound worse than it is. There's only been one moment where Spidey encounters a problem, and MJ is the one telling him how to solve it. Even though Spidey is the frikkin person equipped with the gadgets and should have come up with the solution in less than 2 seconds himself.

I just get these CW Flash vibes, with MJ having now more of an Iris role. And I don't like it.

Peter Parker has not once annoyed me during the main story. Even with his "my own personal ventrance" quips... but this DLC so far, maybe 50% in, he is way too insecure & finicky in his dialogue, even for a Peter Parker character. Geez, for a Superhero that took down the Sinister Six, and dated Felicia Hardy, you'd figure he eventually grew a pair.

Black Cat is my favorite so far. I was worried about cringy innuendos like Catwoman from Arkham Knight. I doubt it, but I hope she's playable. I'm ok with grappling like Arkham, with just pure parkour.

Not only do the new suits look like garbage, but they also don’t even have any special abilities.

Useless.

This is not MJ. Nothing about her is MJ. This is a new character. I call her Fem J.

And what's annoying about her is that she's a one note, transparent, condescending Mary Sue. It's a shame, because mechanically and visually this game is excellent, but it loses major points because of the underlying political agenda. I just wan't a Spider-man game, I don't want some preachy, pretentious writer trying to get me 'woke' about how everything I like is sexist and women are better than men. Fem J is more mature and rational than Spider-man. She's more successful. She constantly acts as the voice of reason, correcting Spider-man, solving problems for him and taking charge.

You all know that they intentionally made her less attractive. She has no curves. Silver Sable -aside from being way too powerful- is in a trench coat, Black cat is dressed more modestly... yet we see a shredded Spider-man literally running around in his underwear.

The Arkham series didn't do this.

I was a little underwhelmed by it, but I still had fun. It's still just the first of three parts anyway.

I'm not really liking what I'm reading of the shoehorning in the first batch of DLC. Between that and the length, I'm thinking I may hold off until the second wave before plunking down. RDR2 is out this week. There's time.

So The Heist DLC was decent. The new machine gun thugs up the challenge of combat a tad, the Spidey stealth segments are improved from the ones in the main game and adding Black Cat to able to help you out is a nice touch.

Thankfully the Screwball challenges aren't as tough as the Taskmaster ones, and there aren't very many.

I'm digging the story, it's picking up - it looks like it's stretched out as one big arc throughout the next two DLC's, I was hoping they'd all be different and the next story DLC's would be focused on a new villain like Mysterio, Kraven, etc. But I'm excited to see more Hammerhead, he looks great.

DLC was fun. My only gripe was the way Peter was written in the 1st half.

Oh... and my NG+ is worthless now, because the new suits didn't transfer over. I think once all the suits are out, I'm gonna start a new NG+, knock out the story segments first, then manual save. That way, I'll have a post-game free-roam world full of all the activities I can load up whenever I want.

Huh...I thought MJ was awesome. Other than her missions.but yea I thought she was great. She was pretty chill when people told her about you know what.

Yeah, I was hoping for some new suit powers. I think the new Scarlet-spider looks ok, but the other two are terrible. I do like the mask on the UK suit though. If they just stuck that mask on a classic ditko suit with web pits, it might be my favorite costume. At least half of these suits shouldn't even be in the game.

I really love the eyes on the Insomniac original design. Reminds me a lot of Gabriele Dell'otto's Spider-Man. This actually really makes me wish that we could get a number of the classic 616 costume, designed by various different artists. Bagley, Dell'otto, MacFarlane, etc.

I agree the eyes are good. But that's it. I'd trade every Insomniac original suit for the Alex Ross costume, Ben Reily or Superior Spider-man.

Finished the DLC. Overall, I've felt very let down. Loved the interaction between Spidey and Felicia. Everything else... eh. Would probably rate it 6/10. It's just entirely too short. The few times I thought "Man, I wish this would have been part of the thug encounters in the main game.", it ended abruptly.

Like when you were able to go in and out of vents during the Museum heist, to take out the thugs, but then it quickly turned into "Stop the thugs from escaping with loot."

The gatling gun thugs just annoyed the hell out of me, because they seemed to recover in seconds, no matter what I threw at them. And fighting 2 of them, while you've got 4 guys with rocket launchers in elevated positions, just made my blood boil. Oh, and...

Screwball is back. I hate the character. And I don't use the world lightly, I despise that character. And of course now we've got Screwball challenges that we need to complete in order to unlock the last suit. They are not difficult, just a pain to do when you can't stand the character.

And again, I do not care for MJ and get tired of having her constantly be in my ear. I still love the main game and enjoy my New Game+ run just as much as the first time I played the game. But man, this DLC was simply nowhere near as fun or satisfying as the rest of the game.

I've been hearing a lot of mixed things about this DLC. Not just here but across the Net. Not in any rush to get it.

It would honestly be best to wait till December, so you can play all 3 Episode in a row and get at least 7-9 hours of gameplay out of it. I just hope the remaining two Episodes will be better than the first one.

Almost done with the game. I'll echo what others have said about the challenge tokens. I was able to unlock all the gadgets and suits. But I think I have 9 more tokens that I need to unlock all the suit mods. Got ultimates on all the stealth and combat ones and on one on the bomb ones. I'd need to either ultimate the remaining 3 bomb ones or get at least gold on all the drone ones.

DLC for games like this is often nothing to write home about.

I will obviously still play it when have the chance. I pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition, which I believe came with this DLC? Can't remember.

Yeah, it was fun, but I wish I'd waited until all three were out, the DLC is not a complete story on its own.

I don't understand the hate for the new DLC. My only criticism is that it was a bit short and ends on a cliffhanger, but otherwise it delivered.

Black Cat was an excellent character, the new machine gun brutes are challenging and fun to defeat, the stealth missions have improved, and the writing is well done.

I would recommend that people wait until December for this DLC series to complete. I think the ending of this is a big reason as to why it's getting mixed reviews. Maybe not being able to play as Black Cat is another disappointment for some, but you have great interactions with her.

I think what would have made the DLC good instead of mediocre:

1. The ability to play as Black Cat. The fact that this didn’t happen was a missed opportunity.

2. An actual boss battle. The new enemies with miniguns were cool but beating wave after wave of them as the finale to this chapter of the DLC was sort of underwhelming. I get that they’re saving Hammerhead for later but hell, I would have taken Screwball as a boss fight in this chapter.

Can you replay the DLC after completing it?

No, you can't replay it without starting a new save file.

I thought the DLC was pretty good. The museum was fun, and allowed you to crawl around on the ceiling, which was almost entirely lacking from the main game. Not sure why people were expecting it to last 4 hours. Arkham Knight's dlc missions were like 15-20 minutes.

Edit: there's a section where you have to chase black cat without web shooters. I like the idea of being forced to navigate without webshooters on occasion, but for some reason your charged jump and wall running are also disabled, which made the sequence worse in my opinion.

Also, I'm a fan of the spider-bot missions. Hope to see more of them, but they could use some more variety. I'd like to use the spider-bot to web people up more often. Making them climb up walls or through small tunnels would be fun.
