So, I finally played this, finished the main campaign. I really liked this game. It pretty much lives up to the hype, and what's really incredible is that it leaves you wanting more. I especially loved the way they made you help build Doc Ock, which was funny and terrifying, and there were moments with MJ and Miles that were incredibly awesome. I think they slowed the stealth sections down too much .Eventually both MJ and Miles get tools that make the stealth sections a bit interesting and help develop their characters as well. I think that should have happened earlier for both. The second stealth section for each should have been a treat, but instead it ended up being the third, I think.
I was also surprised with how small the city was in comparison to how big it feels. The packed in detail really helps the city feel expansive. I could do with a few more landmarks so that I didn't need the map to navigate so always, but even thinking that now, I could have used the compass on the minimap, for a lot of that, but I just kept on not noticing it.
Honestly, all I want to do is play as Miles Spidey in the sequel, and if they figure out some kind of multiplayer, I'll be in hog heaven. I think they should be careful about adding more playable characters other than just miles and MJ. I'd like to see MJ's stealth sections kick off with the stunner and lure. I also want to fight the Sinister Six all at once, just dodge mania like crazy looking for openings, playing them off of each other or something. Rhino and Scorpion was nigh undoable, but I'd love to escalate that. At least a three on one, y'know? Or string more than one together like a gauntlet. Also want to see the symbiote storyline and of course, Green Goblin. You could really play with the narrative and have Harry playable but then turn bad, or play as Miles to battle against Symbiote Spidey. So much goodness possible...
Great game, they deserve all the success. I think it apes the Arkham series a bit too much, Spidey is not as much of a stealth character as they've made him out to be here, especially if there are no hostages involved. I think the gadgets pushed a little far, at least in terms of capturing the spidey experience. What they need to master is getting that off the wall 'Maximum Spider' type fight style.
Oh, and the swinging. I hated so much that it was throttled, once you've leveled up it's really rich and fun, but the throttling and the inconsistent momentum carrying make the SM2 web swinging still the point of comparison. With a little more tweaking for skill, I think it could have put SM2 swinging to bed. Alas.
