why? are you interested in watching sony further destroy the character?

The further they fall the more likely they'll loose the character for good. I don't think they can destroy Spider-man. All they can do is tarnish the name and someone later can come along and polish it back up again.

So I just saw on comic book movies.com that the next bond movie got a leaked about how it is over budget already. It is said that the movies is up to around mid 300 Million and that they want to get it back down to 250 Million man sony. I think the highest cost to make a movie not conting marketing ever is like 320 so if it is at like 350 that would be a recored and for them to be around 100 million over is a lot.

Yeah but if theres a chance that Marvel can get creative control, thats all that really matters.

I don't want them to just have creative control. I'd prefer to have Sony out of the Marvel business altogether.

The more studios that foot the bill the bigger the production budget. If Marvel has creative control then who is helping them foot the bill is irrelevant.

I wasn't talking about budgets. Marvel with their frugality have consistently turned a profit on every film they've made. That's all that is really needed. I just want Sony out because frankly who needs them.

Sony is pretty notorious for going over budget, did you know TASM was supposed to be shot for roughly 78 mil?

I understand the logic here however I'd prefer not to see yet another mediocre to bad Spider-Man movie. That's just another year or two or three wasted. Get Spidey back to Marvel now, save time, and begin working on bringing the character back to the top. Where he belongs.

I have proof that Disney traded all financial stake and control of the film franchise to Sony in exchange for the merchandising rights.

The proof didn't suggest there was a time limit of the deal.

I thought it was Sony traded the merch rights for 100% of the box office take. Before that they shared both.

Sony won't just give it up wholesale though. Best that can be hoped for right now is a co-production deal with Marvel in creative control.

Agreement with Marvel. I think the framework has already been laid out by LR. Marvel/Sony split the production costs/profits. Marvel gets back creative control. Sony gets a small percentage of Merchandise revenue.

I want a statement from Sony. Right meow.

I doubt itd be small

Whether you like it or not Spiderman is Sonys top franchise and it does make them money. Sony will not just hand it over because Marvel fans say so and this line of thinking is silly. Can we at least come up with realistic scenarios, I know some of you have some business savy, what would Marvel need to do to get Spidey either completely of on a shared basis and what offer would Sony most likely accept...thoughts?
I think a deal that is similar to what happened with the Incredible Hulk between Marvel Studios and Universal Studios and what happened with the Indiana Jones IP between Lucasfilm, Walt Disney Pictures, and Paramount Pictures, but more beneficial to Sony Pictures.

While Universal Studios was a simple distributor for the Incredible Hulk and collected a distribution fee of 15% or less while Marvel Studios fronted the production budget, Sony Pictures would be a full production partner assuming 40% - 50% of the project and keep distribution rights in key territories such as North America and other English speaking territories, Japan, South Korea, etc. through their Columbia Pictures banner. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment would also keep home video and VOD distribution rights in key territories. And just like with Indiana Jones, Sony Pictures keeps full rights to previous films

Marvel Studios would assume full creative control of the Spider-Man character in perpetuity and assume 50% - 60% as a production partner. The biggest reason why Marvel Studios' films have been successful, especially in the Phase 2 set of films is because Marvel Entertainment has had full control of the characters it is making films on, not some other studio like 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures, or Walt Disney Pictures. And in order for Spider-Man to fully sync with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios would need full creative control. This means no more studio heads like Amy Pascal or corporate heads like Kaz Hirai interfering with the Spider-Man character the way they have in the past.

The Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group would assume marketing rights to future Spider-Man films and assume distribution rights in lesser international territories. The marketing division in Sony Pictures is pretty much a joke while the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group has really marketed the hell not only with Marvel films such as the Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Iron Man 3, and Guardians of the Galaxy, but other properties too like Frozen, Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, Toy Story, etc. They are a marketing juggernaut and would do a far better job at making the film successful than Sony Pictures would. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment would be able to bundle future Spider-Man films.

Disney Consumer Products keeps the merchandising and licensing rights to the Spider-Man IP as Sony Pictures has previously relinquished those rights. Disney-ABC Domestic Television and ABC Studios keep the television rights as Sony Pictures has also relinquished those previously.

Sony is lucky with Spectre because MGM is assuming most of the risk.

So,in order to Spidey to be in MCU is that the heads of Sony at Japan have to accept?

Time is moot because the Walt Disney Company knew that Sony Pictures was indeed making Spider-Man films and was going to continue making Spider-Man films thus the time limit will continue to be extended.

didn´t they traded the animation and Merchandise rights to Marvel for more time to produce the reboot or something like that?
Sony traded merchandising and television rights in return for Marvel Entertainment's cut in the box office returns and I believe they also got full creative control over the film rights and cut Marvel Entertainment out of that as well.

Maybe the Sony hack was created by an extreme bunch of MS fans from Comic Book Movie to try and get a Marvel deal...

I wonder if Kim Jung Un is a fan of Marvel? I'm not trying to make a joke it's a serious question, I mean the guy's huge on American pop culture, that's why his father used to kidnap actors and why Dennis Rodman hangs with him a lot?

Didn't sites reporting from the E-Mails say Sony was in creative control but Marvel would co-produce three new Spider-Man films. Wasn't the current deal broken off?

It's Latino Review guys
