Homecoming "Spider-Man Summit" Thread

Newest hacked e-mails reveal that Venom is dead, that Kurtzman is no longer writing Amazing Spider-Man 3, and many within Sony are questioning Sinister Six.

Is this an update in addition to the e-mails we have been discussing?

In Cap2, Stark was at Avengers Tower as we see from the Insight Satellite targeting system.
But Steve couldn't actually contact anyone of his regular buddies when he was on the run because SHIELD would be monitoring them all. That's why he went to Sam Wilson, who was a completely new contact, rather than Banner or Stark, etc.

Just because it isn't explicitly stated why, doesn't mean there isn't a logical explanation included in the story.

Well, I'm sure Tony did know about "Fury dead, Captain on the run" stuff... LOL. Seriously... this universe thing is fine but it's not bullett-proof.

Actually... Venom is not dead. Arad was begging but looks like Sony were not very active with that project. However they were discussing Kurtzman's salary, Goddard's salary and that Orci is not involved anymore and ASM3 basically canceled.

Start new in the new universe. You restore his mythos, his villains, and any other damage done. You start a new franchise with a kid, 5-6 films ala Harry Potter but done the Marvel Studios way. Clean slate, new universe.

Absolutely. This is the way to go.

Have you graduated high school? I remember summer after I did I said I was in college now, even though I hadn't actually moved into my dorm. Plus everyone I knew started rocking their schools gear right when they got in. Afterall you are a college student the moment you enroll, and you're no long a high school student when you graduate. I'm just saying there was little evidence he was actually in college, and while both of us are making assumptions, mine are less of a stretch than the valedictorian not enrolling upon graduation.

Edit-
Also Peter was just stated to be a high school student in Amazing spider-man, high school spans 4 years, he could have easily been a junior if there is infact a two year difference.

Both of us are indeed making assumptions. Difference is, I have pictures and dates to somewhat back mine up.

Peter had been going to Midtown Science High since 2009. 2009 + 4 = 2013. 2008 + 4 = 2012, for instance, wouldn't work.

We know for a fact that he was still going there in 2012, making 2013 the only possible year for him to graduate and 2009 the year he started going there.

I don't know what else to say. If you still don't agree with me... Let's just agree to disagree. This is way off-topic, as well.

Singer never made a bad X-Men before though.

Spider-Man 3 received mixed reviews, and despite it's poor reception the reboot was still about to make numbers close to what Spider-Man 2 did (Though inflation and the big boom in 3D 2012 had was a big help). It was received much better than X-Men 3 or ASM 2 was.

When it comes to Sinister Six I was very sceptical on the idea coming off TASM2 and based on what we were hearing at the time regarding the direction. Now based on what's been reported to have been said about the movie's apparent direction, I just wish they would simply kill the movie and anything else Spider-man related they have and give creative control to Marvel. Marvel seemingly has a better grasp on what to do with Spider-man (imo) and Sony would do well to get on board with that and make what money they can from it rather than run the franchise into the ground with their own mismanagement.

So Sony wants Ryan Gosling in Sinister Six... Sounds funny after he turned down The Joker in SS.

Also I don't understand why people say Raimi was campy, and therefore not good for the franchise for this bit (a montage that's really not all that different from the montage in SM2):

Are you an angel?

If Sony co-financed the films, and Marvel could make them in addition to Phase 3 films, they could absolutely do their own Harry Potter type saga and release a film every 18 months that has slight connections to the overall MCU, but is very much Spidey's own saga of films. That would be the dream scenario.

That sounds good to me! As long as Marvel Studios has creative control.

E-mails show Arad begging Sony to greenlight Venom because the character is extremely popular in merchandising. Arad has always had a thing for Venom all the way back to him shoehorning the character into Spider-Man 3. But others like Michael De Luca and Matt Tolmach really don't have faith in a Venom movie. De Luca even wanted to go as far as using Ultimate Venom in a rebooted Spider-Man if Marvel isn't on board.

Basically, Venom is pretty much dead for the time being. The writers are gone, the director is gone, no one in Sony has much faith in the project asides from Avi Arad. That is the makings of a dead film.

Shame about Venom (in a sense). To me the concept of Venom seems like the simpler and more interesting movie to make than trying to figure out how to do a Sinister Six spin-off. Though saying that I still wouldn't trust Sony with either at this juncture.

Though going a bit on tangent here, seeing Venom on GotG comic covers does make me wonder if Venom's alien side would be better served in the MCU. I can't help but wonder if anything Sony tries with the character in the future would be the Ultimate version of the suit just so they can excise an origin that is otherwise difficult without the right set up.

I hated Venom until Flash took over. With regards to a movie there is just too much ground to cover unless you throw the audience in feet first (ala Star Wars/Matrix) and hope they can keep up.
