I'm going to be visiting Activision in the U.S. to discuss about a Spider-Man game idea. Anybody got any ideas they want to throw in?
My ideas would include something more 616, and nothing related to the modern comics. Hopefully something a Ben Reilly. I'm going to be illustrating a storyboard for it so I'd like to hear your ideas.
Also, here's my idea:
If we had a Spidey game that's based like Crysis is, it'd be pretty awesome.
You're basically free to do whatever you want to a point, but you HAVE to finish that specific task if you want to continue on in the story and in the game.
In Crysis, for example, you are instructed to go get information from a swarmed Korean camp. You're in a forest, you don't HAVE to go and do that right away. You can roam around the forest and do what you want but if you want to go any farther you need to go finish that mission.
In Spider-Man, this could be done by having you being told "Green Goblin is up to something at the docks, go find out what he's doing" (I'm not good at writing a good story :P), instead of going to do that immediately, you can go and swing around or go and finish a sidequest or something, but you are contained in a specific area (though a LARGE area). If you want to skip something, go ahead, but it won't be a MAJOR selling point in the game and it won't have a huge effect on the next mission.
Does any of that make sense? :P
You want to freeroam? Sure. After you beat the game, you can unlock a "Free Mode" and go back to a point in time where you have no missions currently and there's lots of random things to do (stop criminals and whatnot). You wont' be able to go past this point in time and you DO have all of your upgrades (or you can chose to have one upgrade over another).
Swinging could be handled like in SM2 but with the animation of WOS.
We also need sneaking missions back, I mean come on. Why remove them? Spider-Man is smart, he doesn't just rush into something all the time like in recent games, he'll sneak into places, keep things quiet and fight if he needs to.
Maybe even have a few enemies where you don't fight them, but they fight themselves (Rhino's fight with Spidey in Spider-Man 1 for N64/PS1 comes to mind), you could taunt them (even select taunts if you want, they wouldn't have any impact on the game, just something different to say). Then make them angry enough to hurt themselves accidentally.
The combat in WOS is good, but LOSE THE FLASHINESS! We don't need to be punching and see a bright flash, this isn't the old Batman TV show.
Costumes, we need them back. Focusing on only two costumes was a huge mistake and not what most people wanted. The costumes in this new game would affect your abilities (like they did in SM1 N64/PS1). They don't have to be elaborate, just something simple. Don't say it's impossible to do that for all costumes...PS1 could do it..N64 could to. I'm SURE PC, Wii, PS3, and 360 can too.
Symbiotes...we're done with them. We do NOT need any more. SM3, USM, FOF (to a point), and now WOS all have to do with symbiotes. The symbiotes aren't that interesting, for the next game make someone like Hobgoblin or Green Goblin or Shriek or someone ELSE be the main villain. ******, if you want to make it a HUGE game, make it someone like Kingpin or the Sinister Six. Then you can add in old school villains like The White Rabbit, Alistair Smythe, or Morlun. Venom should NOT be in this game at all, he's a tired old villain and he's pretty boring.
Bugs and glitches should NOT be as bad as they are in this game. If it takes you 2 - 3 years to make this next Spidey game, so be it. We'll all be better off for it. We can wait. Seriously, we can.
