Movie tickets have gone up since 2002,that's why Pirates made more.

I simply have no problem with it X-Rated, i enjoyed the movie a whole lot. On another note, i'm just saying next year i think Spidey will come back with a bigger opening.

The numbers pirate has done wont change my mind, spidey still stands a chance.

Buena Vista International (BVI) films amassed more than $60m over the weekend in which Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest dominated the world stage.

The adventure sequel's overseas performance complemented the record breaking North American debut by grossing an estimated $46.6m, an astonishing tally that produced runaway number one debuts in all seven of its markets.

PIRATES 2 is ****ING HUGE OVERSEAS.

I say this movie has broken several records overseas boxoffice. And could very well end up doing $550-600 million overseas with another $300-350 domestically.

WORLDWIDE- $850-950 worldwide

SPIDER-MAN 3 will have a hard time breaking the records POTC 2 has set in UK and other countries.

I think SONY should release SM 3 worldwide next year just like they did for DVC.

SM 3 will easily break the record set by DVC for biggest worldwide launch ever.

Spidey 3 will beat this if they show alot of good trailers for the public to see.

And keep the Friday release! They need Friday to reclaim the record!

Exactly, and it should stay that way, and not be moved up to May 2nd or 3rd.

Also, I've created a slogan:

People like Pirates. But they love Spider-Man
The 2007 Box Office Belongs to the Bug!

Yes and in my sig Im telling people to watch it twice, I want Spidey to get the record back :(...I will show people the trailer on my ipod

Why the hell are we comparing POTC-DMC with Spider-Man when POTC-DMC opened to close to 500 more theatres 4,133 theatres compared to Spidey's 3,615. At the same time POTC-DMC production budget is 225M compared to Spidey's 139M. So to cut it short POTC-DMC should make more than 489M domestically for them to say they shattered Spidey's record.

Very true

If Spidey 1 was released n more than 4000 theatres, it would make $145m opening weekend.

I think next May will be a big month for box office records

May 4: Spiderman 3

May 18: Shrek the Third

May 25: Pirates of the Carribean: At Worlds End

Spiderman no doubt will take over 400+, it has two weekends to claim moviegoers. If Shrek does as good as it wants to be, then indeed they will make enough money to steal Pirates3 opening

So, Spiderman will do great

Shrek will do good but wont make as much money as its first sequel did

And Pirates3 will probably do close to bad

. . . I hope Spidey kicks both Shrek/Pirates a**es

did that include the midnight showing ? , I don't remember the first Spider-man having a midnight showing around here , but it's been a while so I could be wrong

Argh, sounds like a lot of rubbish......Do ye have a crystal ball my mis-guided friend?

Ahem, all kidding aside I think it's possible that all three films will do well. Why now does it even matter if Spider-Man breaks any records the series has proven itself and I'm sure it will rake in a ton of money.

This whole worrying over box-office records is really very stupid. As far as I know none of us here are getting a cut of the grosses from any of these films.

Sit back, enjoy the films and stop the nonsense.....

Inevitably records are going to be broken. This summer has been pretty blase as far as great movies. POTC came at the right place, at the right time. You ad inflationary factors in, and it now has the records.

I just want to see POTC beat Titanic's records, 'cause that movie sucks.

In any case, I don't know if Spidey 3 will be the new record holder or not. These things are so unpredictable. I do think Spidey 3 will be another 300 million dollar film.

What's impressive is that Spidey 1 held the record for over 4 years, against alot of impressive films. And considering it did it, at the beginning of May, before kids are out of school and on a non-holiday weekend, you got to give it credit.

If any film was gonna break Spidey's record, I'm glad it was POTC2. Why? because it's one of the most creative and innovative films that Hollywood has come up with in a long, long time. It also harkens back to the golden age of Hollywood, with Erol Flynn, and the old Harry Hausen films like Sinbad.

I agree!

Makes me want them to make a Sinbad film too.......Of course there are also rumors of a Clash of the Titans remake.

Pirates 2 was fun and because of the cliffhanger ending it's almost a shoe in to have a giant opening weekend. From what I'm hearing POTC 3 is going to be even wilder than this one as far as the creatures go......and the new "bad guys" are even creepier than Davy Jones's crew!

SM2 came out in 2004....?? Im confused about this point. Or are we talking SM1?

Whos to say prices wont go up for next year and SM3 does beat it. Will you be here saying "only cause prices went up"?

SM1 was the record holder. I'd be curious to see what the numbers are adjusted for inflation, but being fair, adjusting for inflation SM1 wouldn't even be the record holder in the first place.
