Plot was extremely weak... agreed ^... didn't know what the hell was going at any point in the POTC 2

I don't understand why everyone is going nuts over what will break who's record...Who gives a crap if Spidey breaks or does not break any records. All that proves is that people with too much money make the big execs even richer than they already are. I have news for you all (this may come as a shock to some of you) If a movie makes $300 million opening weekend, it does not make it a better film than if it made $15 million. All I care about is if the final product kicks my ass...I couldnt care less how many other people go to see it. If it breaks records, cool it deserved it...If not, I won't lose any sleep.

I think the numbers are important... a lot of people care... it's huge in terms of determining whether there will be sequels and what not... people want their favorite movie to be remembered... and the BO can measure that probably better than anything else out there. I won't lose any sleep over it either but if a movie like these make 150 mil only... I'll be scratching my head untill I go bald...

I just love how all these little "reviews" for POTC 2 are popping up in here and how the majority of them just so happen to hate it.

I highly doubt it would be getting the same reaction if it hadn't broke Spidey's record. How utterly pathetic.

I also find it funny how people fall back on the critics reviews when it fits into their agenda. Just about every critic that hated the first film didn't like this one. Wow, what a shock! As you can see it really hurt the box-office! HAhahaa....

I'm sorry but there were no "Cliffhangers" at the end of Spidey 2....unanswered questions about characters choices but nothing like the way POTC 2 ended....NOW THAT WAS A CLIFFHANGER!

You guys do not understand what kind of return draw this is going to have with the 3rd film. It's also launching on a Wed. before a major holiday weekend too.

Spidey 3 might break records to start out but it's very unlikely it will be able to hold onto them for very long......

Argh.....Capt. Jack will be stealing those, matey!

WOW I just saw POTC 2 and all I can say is WOW!

Where the hell was the movie? there was no begining middle or a end.

Just because their is going to be a third one does not mean the 2nd does not need a ending.

The Davy jones effects were great.

But the movie was WAY to long and did not go ANYWHERE!

it reminded me of LOTR The Two Towers, just a middle no begining or end, and too frickin long to have no point.

Pirates one was a complete movie all into itself WHY can't pirates 2 be?

The StarWars movies may have all fit together to tell one story but each movie was complete and was NOT just a middle.

On it's own POTC 2 sucked, when 3 comes out I am sure it will fit in and we have a complete story and it will be good.

But for F's sake BAck to the Future 2 &3 were both shot together and those move stand well by themselves., why can't pirates 2.

At least all the Spidey movies go together yet they are perfectly fine on their own too.

A lot of this is your opinion and as such a lot of us don't agree with that. Back to the Future 2&3!!! Star Wars! LOTR! All of these film franchises were no different.....Empire didn't go anywhere either. Han/Leia on the run, Luke training and Darth chasing! Wow, yeah I see a big difference!

Why don't you just admit your hurt because Capt. Jack tore Spidey a new one this weekend and get on with your life?

people should ALWAYS care whether their favorite character does well at the box office. good numbers guarantee sequals poor numbers do not.
enough said.

One of you brainiacs should try figuring out actual tickets sold , with ticket prices higher there was no way Spider-man was gonna keep that record much longer anyways cause now-a-days you can sell fewer tickets and still make more money , the real question here is did POTC 2 actually sell more tickets , thats just way to much math for me.....lol

It was mentioned in the press release. It did sell more tickets. But also opened in more theatres.

That is not really true. Look at Hulk and FF. Neither of these films were considered a hit either with the general public or in terms of Box Office yet both are getting sequels!

Spidey 3 has got a battle on it's hands. I don't see the hoopla over Sandman shooting Uncle Ben dying down anytime soon......or maybe it's not as big of deal as people would like us to believe. If it is I can see that hurting Spidey 3's performance at the Box Office next May. Because the fans are sooooo upset over that right now.

Spidey 3 will make more than enough next year......it would be foolish to think otherwise. It's not certian though that it will break any records with all the stiff competition it will have during that month.

I'm willing to bet Ole Capt. Jack is going to take a big chunk out of Spidey's cash flow.

You know Ole Capt Jack is gonna take a big chunk of Spidey's cash flow cause you know that over 50 crowd , you know , the ones with all the money will be alot more interested in seeing ole Keith Richards playing Capt Jack Sparrow Sr. then seeing that skinny kid from that 70's show turn into some black gooey Spider-man........arg !!!

honestly could care less about numbers, just as long as the movies great... Batman Begins didn't do outstanding numbers, and that is my favorite comic movie

Read what I wrote, I loved the movie, and said if any movie was going to beat Spidey, I'm glad this was it. Reminded me of all those Sinbad movies I watched as a kid.

I probably would have been upset had Superman or X3 broken the record, because both of those movies sucked.

Like I say, Spidey 1 deserves alot of credit for setting the record, and holding it for so long. But it was inevitable that some move was going to break it. So like I say, I'm glad Pirates was the one, because it was such a refreshing original film, unlike Superman Returns and X3, both of which went for the cheap thrill, than trying to tell an original story.

I cant see why anyone would be pissed that POTC beat Spidey's record and rag on POTC because it did. It was totally original compared to all these tired ass comic book movies that seem to be spewing out. Seriously, how much more can we take? I was kind of superhero'd out by the time I saw Superman Returns, still enjoyed it, but was kind of desensitized. The only Comic Book flicks I'm really looking foward to is SM3 and Transformers.

Damn, you all have gone nuts, over money that you're not apart of. This is getting worst than the Superman Box Office thread.:O

right? worrying about money that you will not recieve.... sounds like a waste of time..... time better spent by better making money, rather then discussing how others will make it or not

I'm worried about "Little Man"

this movie will break all the box office records

It's redundant, there is a big difference between 100mil in '02 and 100mil in '06.
four years of inflation. I think if you looked at the numbers of bums in seats spidey's would be higher. tickets are more expensive now.

but you have to think of the cost of gas today, and the rotation of the earh, plus the war on terror, popcorn prices, crazed midgets....... everything is a factor..............

err, ok. i was just saying - have fun, though.

Hhaaha.....Yeah, and I agreed with you. I replied to your post a page or two back.

I've said it two or three times now. This whole thing about bad mouthing POTC just because it beat Spidey's record is stupid. So what? It's not like any of us are getting cash from any of this!

I want to make it clear I liked the POTC movies, Shrek , Harry Potter and Spidey. I want them all to do well. I enjoy each of them for a different reason. Just because your a Spidey fan doesn't mean you can't like other movies.

I think it's foolish to believe Spidey 3 won't make enough money to warrant another movie. This movie would have to bomb horribly for them to say "No More". I think what we will see is a changing of the guard so to speak.....new director and cast? maybe for 4. It's hard to say.....

Now if you want to speculate IF Spidey 3 will break records I'm going to say yes, BUT.......it may not hold them for long....especially with POTC 3 released. After watching what the second one did over the weekend and the fact that this film has a very big draw for people to go see 3 I'm willing to bet it will shatter records next year.

But then again does it matter if Spidey 3 doesn't? Does it make it any less of a great film? No!

I'm just tired of reading people bashing POTC 2 just because it broke Spidey's record. POTC isn't Shakespeare and neither are any of the Spidey films either.....people need to stop acting like they are and get a better perspective on things.

............. Took the words right out of my mouth.

^POTC 2 was a great film and the best of the year easily. I think SM3 will break records again but have tough competition with POTC 3.

Not to mention that I heard POTC 3 might come out in May of next year?

Your all getting the idea wrong...i personally, loved the first POTC, but in the second i just found myself thinking "This is a mess of unnecessary scenes and side-plots and how hte heck are they going to resolve this at the end" half of which didnt even get solved and left me confused...and im not mad that potc beat spidey...well actualyl we all knew it was gonna happen eventually...but why a disney movie? come on now?

BTW Aquaman beat spidey's record b4 POTC :)==Entourage...if you dont watch it dont bother asking if aquaman got made or not

I watch a bit of Entourage. But how in the hell do the writers think that Aquaman would beat Spidey? Out of all the damn comic book characters.............Aquaman?
