Spin Magazine 25 Greatest Live Bands Now!

I appreciate U2's early work. And I liked their song for Batman Forever.

And even in their 60s', The Rolling Stones are the best live band in the world.
I guess you must have missed them when they "performed" during halftime at last years Super Bowl. It was pathetic.

I'm really happy to see My Morning Jacket on that list. I've seen quite a few live videos of them on youtube and they're fantastic.

OMG did they just compare the Mars Volta to Zepellin?

WHAT THE HELL? :cmad: :cpissedoff:

I've seen Mars Volta perform live. There are very few bands whose recordings I loved that made me wanted to beat the living crap out of them for their live performance. Granted, the sound guys gave them sh1t for a mix to the point that you could barely distinguish one instrument from another or make out any of their songs, but their overall stage presence was awful and sorry, but Cedric can't hold a candle to Plant and Omar is no Jimmy Page. After about three songs, actually, Cedric's voice become intolerably annoying actually. Good grief was I disappointed with their live show. Thank god the Chili Peppers came on afterwards and put on an amazing show that all but erased my memory of the train wreck that is Mars Volta performing live.

dude, thats SO crazy that the dirtbombs are on there! i mean, where'd that come from? not that i dont agree, because i agree wholeheartedly....the dirtbombs are amazing, and but on killer live shows. im just surprised that spin recognized it.

by the way, since it was brought up: the stooges have been playing here and there for the past couple years. they moved back to ann arbor to rehearse so they can record a new album. some friends of mine got to meet iggy and ron at the raconteurs show in ann arbor. i was so jealous!

This reminds me: I might actually be seeing The Who next month. Why the **** are they not on the list?

You're killing me here, man. I've seen the Who on You Tube and I can imagine just from watching them on TV that they're better on that small screen than most bands are when you're actually there. Pete Townshend hasn't lost a thing.

That's the super bowl, man. That's not a real concert. Bands tend to get in their element when they're with their fans, not fans who are just watching them because the real show is in the locker room.

Psht. Where's Aerosmith?

Agreed. Aerosmith, in my opinion, along with Metallica would put a lot of those bands to shame when it comes to live shows.

Lists like these are usually lacking the right choices as I'm sure the people who picked these bands probably haven't seen enough live shows to truly come to a decision.

I'm still confused as to why Metallica didn't even make that list. Christ, people who haven't even been to Metallica shows know that they put on the best live shows.

Upon a second viewing, this list has no credibility to me.
Why?
Because U2 is number 1.
There are so many overlooked bands that completely rock the balls off of more than 50% of the groups on that list.

I don't like SPIN but I'm very glad that Austin based punk band Riverboat Gamblers made the list. I haven't seen them live but thier studio music is good.

You like The Hives? Awesome.

NOFX, what did they say about the Stripes?

This list really is only alternative rock music. I can honestly say that there are a lot of older groups and groups of different genres that still actively tour that are at least as good and often better than the groups listed here. I have to mention Robert Randolph because his live show is fantastic and because he's the first I can think of. Oh, and then there's another Austin band Vallejo that puts on a very energetic show. But I don't disagree with this list altogether, especially since The White Stripes and My Morning Jacket were included...and I really can't comment on bands I haven't seen live.
