STAR TREK 13 News and Discussion

Nah, it sounds fine. I was just curious if you had a specific idea.

I definitely bring Khan back, but not in the very next movie. Maybe a fourth or fifth one, but not right away.

Benedict Cumberbatch brought more viewers in to see STID, so they might want to bring him back to ST3 to sell tickets.

Really? I had no idea he was such a big star. The only thing I've seen him in is Sherlock.

I don't know if he is that huge, but he is definitely an up and coming actor whose popularity is increasing. I know a number of people who went to see STID just for Benedict Cumberbatch.

Sherlock has given him a lot of attention and I think STID will certainly help his career. I wish the best of luck for this talented actor.

I have two ideas:
1. Khan/Adm. Marcus's actions in STID trigger a Federation/Klingon War, which the Enterprise crew gets caught up in.
2. The Enterprise is on a mission to deep space. They come upon evidence of civilizations disappearing under mysterious circumstances. Then investigate and come face to face with the greatest enemy that they have faced to date, The Borg.

I love the Borg, but I just don't know how I feel about them being introduced into the original series era. They're such a TNG era thing, you know? It's their most iconic and most dangerous adversary. I would rather them save the Borg in case they ever decide to revisit TNG in some way.

Well said.

But that's the point I'm making. Kirk and co encountering the Borg, that's something NEW, it would be interesting to see. We know that Kirk would handle the Borg much differently than Picard did. Also, the Borg also showed up in Voyager and Enterprise, so they're not unique to TNG. I don't like the idea of reserving certain characters/factions to a particular era, especially given that this is a new continuity. It just limits storytelling possibilities. Also, they're not going to de TNG for a LONG time, if ever. I'd prefer to see the Borg again BEFORE I start collecting SS checks.

I think the Borg could really build up some hype for a Star Trek film. I wouldn't mind seeing them with the TOS crew based on what Loki882 said: "Kirk and co encountering the Borg, that's something NEW, it would be interesting to see. We know that Kirk would handle the Borg much differently than Picard did."

I just think they should focus on the Klingons for the next film and then reserve the Borg for the fourth.

The next Star Trek Movie needs a Gorn!
... or many Gorns!

Maybe a Klingon & Gorn Alliance.

I just hope that the Gorn would not have the same design as the 2013 ST video game, or the CGI versions in Enterprise. Awful!

It should be an updated design of the TOS version.

I have loved both movies so far but I hope in the next one we get a really great space battle, which this franchise hasnt given us so far.

Also, after STID its getting a bit tedious seeing the Enterprise go up against a bigger, more advanced ship and being totally outclassed and out of its league. The Enterprise is the federations flag ship, lets see how it does on an equal footing with an enemy ship this time and give us a good space battle as I said above.

I would prefer they not focus solely on space battles, as that was the case with Nemesis, which resulted in a lot of valuable character material ending up on the cutting room floor.

^I dont want them to focus on space battles, but give us one good and lengthy one at least, we havent had one in the last two movies, we have only had one superior ship vs another one or one disabled ship vs another one. Its something I dont want to see again in the franchise as we have had it for 2 movies now.

I apologize for my post coming off as more jagged than I intended (it has been a lousy evening.) Now that I re-read your posts, I have a better understanding of your suggestions for the film. I was satisfied with the preceding films, but, I can see where you are coming from.

Oh you didnt come off that way at all, dont worry, seems it was a bit of a missed understanding.

I would just like one of the climactic scene's in the next movie to be a good space battle were the Enterprise is on equal footing with the enemy ship/s.

'Attack The Block' Helmer Joe Cornish Is Paramount's Choice To Direct 'Star Trek 3'

For many, the goodwill from J.J. Abrams' mostly-very-good "Star Trek" reboot dissipated quickly with this summer's sequel, "Star Trek Into Darkness." What had been a shining example of how to give a franchise a fresh lick of paint became a film that had its moments, but failed to live up to expectations, with a lousy third act, excessive destruction and a waste of a potentially good villain. But it seems like Paramount have found a way to get us, at least, excited about a potential third installment.

When he took the "Star Wars" job a year ago, J.J. Abrams soon confirmed that he wouldn't be returning to direct a third 'Star Trek' movie, which Paramount has been keen to move forward with sooner rather than later. Names like Rupert Wyatt and Jon M. Chu have been mentioned as potential directors, but according to Deadline, the frontrunner appears to be someone who Latino Review actually mentioned as being on a shortlist a little while ago: Joe Cornish, helmer of the excellent "Attack the Block."

In the three years since that film landed, Cornish has flirted with projects—comic-book adaptation "Rust," which he's since departed, and a version of Neal Stephenson's "Snow Crash"—without any moving forward, although he's been kept busy with scripting work, alongside pal Edgar Wright, on "The Adventures Of Tintin" and 2015's Marvel movie "Ant Man." And while his name was linked to high-profile sequels like "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and "A Good Day To Die Hard," Cornish was initially reluctant to take on that kind of project, telling us back in 2012 that he turned down the 'Die Hard' movie because "Ultimately I think it would have been too big a step to take. Some directors do it. That guy Rupert Wyatt made a very low budget movie called "The Escapist," and then he took on "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and did an amazing job. But he's a braver man than me."

But Cornish may be feeling more confident: while Deadline stress that it's early days, Cornish certainly seems to be very much in the running for the 'Star Trek' job, which in itself would likely give him the kudos to get something like "Snow Crash" greenlit. And of course, it probably helps that old friend Simon Pegg is in the cast.

Getting a director with no connection to Abrams Is good move.

I will bet that Kurtzman and Orci only do the first draft of script.

And odds are no more trying to be Star Wars lite.

ATB was awesome, so based on that Cornish would do a decent job, I just hope its keeps the consistency with the previous 2 movies.

I have not seen any of Cornish's films, so I cannot comment on his filmography or aesthetic. However, I have been re-reading some of the older posts here, and have to say, I do not want to see Khan for a while. If they are not going to explore war with the Klingons - which, depending on the writing team could either be brilliant or highly derivative of the preceding, other-universe films-then I'd prefer they try tapping into some obscure aliens from TOS. Now, I realize the Gorn were redone in a semi-canon video game that no one bought, but, they could be used to great effect if given a new design and retaining their ability to speak. Even though the CGI was bad, I loved the Enterprise episodes where Mirror-verse Archer and his pals were hunting one on the ship. They could have the Gorn working with another entity or race that are reverse-engineering and building Star Fleet tech into more devastating weapons.

Attack the Block is an amazing film. I hope Joe gets it.

he also wrotte the screenplay for TinTin and Antman. so he could also writte ST.

i hope they pick him.

^Cornish or Rupert Wyatt would both be great picks to direct ST3, I hope one of those two gets the job as it would give me confidence that the movie would be as good as the 1st 2 have been.
