Marx brought it to my attention that the first thread would be closed and asked me to start a new one. I obliged.

Discuss!

i was just teasing him
anyways lets go back talking about the Star Trek dvd and BLURAY
:awesome:

so what do you guys what to be the threat of the next film?

lol @ the blu-ray haters. Don't know what you're missing out on. It's inevitable that blu-ray will take over and DVDs will become the lower level format :hyper:

totally bluray is the next form since they knocked out hd-dvd. But it will probably be a few more yrs from now before dvd is gone.

Digital distribution is the future man. Having said that, yes Blu-ray is pretty awesome. :woot:

For the time being.

Digital distribution may be too far, I like being able to look through my hardcopy video DVD collection :(

People like to collect objects. I don't think this will ever change.

When I watch DVD's on my High Def TV they look terrible, the image is all blurry, especially older DVD's. Some of the DVD's are non anamorphic too. When I watch any of the Lord of the Rings, all the wide shots are blurry, they lack detail. Here's some of the films I've doulbe dipped.
Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy
King Kong
Field of Dreams
Superman The Movie
The Donner Cut
Batman Begins
A Bugs Life
Ratatouille
Cars
They all look like crap on DVD. On Blu-ray all of them look amazing. Once you go Blu-ray, you get addicted to the quality, and you never want to watch another DVD again. Rent Kung Fu Panda, or any of the Pixar films, or Baraka. Transformers was my first Blu-ray, my God that picture quality is amazing!! Planet Earth is amazing as well. I need to rent 2001 a Space Odyssey, I read that it was transfered in 4K from a 70 mm print, as well as Baraka and The Wizard of Oz were transfered in 4K.

I'm not opposed to downloading films. I'm addicted to high def in any form. I'm downloading 1080p quicktime trailers to my USB port to watch them on my High Def TV. Netflix is getting ready for high def downloading, http://www.postchronicle.com/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi?archive=166&num=263935

personally, I don't like my own burnt disks. I treat them like garbage. With a physical bought copy, I have much more incentive to treat them with care.

I have like 3 burnt discs and they share a case....I like my packaging and my covers and all that....

ones printed off the computer just seem fake to me

see, I'm too lazy and cheap to get cases... disks are expensive, so buying bulk is the way to go... but you don't get cases in a big barrel of disks. So I just leave'em lying around til they don't work anymore.

I'm looking forward to picking it up, definitely worth the money.
