Is Vygr(forgot the actual name)a earlier version of the Borg?

Supposedly, the bio-mechanical race from whom Voyager 6 gained sentience might have been the Borg - this from Roddenberry's suggestion, and has been speculated on in some of the novels. However, there has been no indication in the actual TV series and movies themselves of this.

I don't like that suggestion. V'Ger is far and away way more advanced than anything the Borg have ever constructed. There is literally nothing to connect them other than the fact that machinery was used in upgrading V'Ger.

Which may be at least one reason why Paramount itself doesn't consider the idea canon.

hi, they explained V'GER's origin in the STMP. Seeing that VGER left earth around 2000, 2-300 years is not enough to explain the creation of the borg and expansion throughout the galaxy.

I much prefer the idea of the 'original' borg being as close as possible to human, otherwise the message is lost.
