Star Wars Comics and Graphic Novels

Yep. Although Miller's come right out and used several other characters like soon-to-be-Admiral Saul Karath and Carth Onasi. I'm wondering how long it's going to actually take before we find out who Zayne turns out to be, myself, or if the prophecy is even really about him. I don't want Miller to just rush right out and show us, but at the same time, I'm kind of fearing a Lost situation, where he drags it out endlessly. He's said he plans on writing KotOR for the foreseeable future.

Which is vague as hell, considering his foreseeable future might be a year, two years, 5 years or 10 years.

I think he meant that, barring some unforeseen circumstances, he'd like to continue writing KotOR as long as possible. Which suits me fine, since he's a great writer for it. I just worry about the Lost scenario.

I think what Miller wants to do is try to steer clear from having to writer his version of the game at some point, so he would rather do a lot of backstory and possibly end the series where the first game begins. That's what I'm guessing. But you know, with Zayne it would be really cool to explore where he was and what he was doing during the time of the first game. Maybe he turns to the dark side....

There's a lot of speculation that he's actually Darth Nihilus.

I think it'd be a waste to just end it when Revan falls to the Jedi. I want to see what happens to the book's characters through the Jedi Civil War and the Exile's story, too. Plus, if Zayne does, in fact, turn out to be Nihilus, he wouldn't even do anything important until KotOR 2's time period, anyway.

True that. I didn't know there was speculation about that though, interesting.

I don't really know where it comes from. I guess it might be just process of elimination: Zayne's too young to be Revan and Malak, who were already a pretty well-respected Jedi Knight by the time the Mandalorian Wars hit; the Jedi Exile is canonically female, so she's out; that basically leaves Sion or Nihilus, and Sion seems pretty old.

If he is Nihilus, then Darth Traya would have to come into the comic sometime after the Mandalorian War storyline begins, which seems pretty soon.

The Mandalorian Wars have already begun. I think the implication was that the wars began in earnest after the Mandies took Taris.

As for Traya, she always came around after the wars. Kreia was exiled from the Jedi Order for being one of the primary masters of a lot of the Jedi who entered the war and wound up falling to the dark side, most notably Revan himself. Wracked with guilt, she begins to question her philosophy and seeks answers at Malachor V, where she finds the Trayus Academy, turns to the dark side, and becomes Darth Traya. So, really, Kreia could remain unseen in the comic right up until the Mandalorian Wars end (or after the Jedi Civil war begins; I'm not entirely sure of the timeline) and the Council exiles her.

The Jedi Civil War begins after th Mandalorian Wars. Well according to the game. Revan and Malak defeat the Mandalorians and they disappear with their brigade or whatever to find the Star Map and such.

Yeah, but the Jedi Civil War begins some amount of time after the end of the Mandalorian Wars. That's the time that Revan and Malak are off searching for the Star Forge, before they return to the Republic and start the JCW. I'm not sure if Kreia was kicked out of the Jedi Order immediately after the Mandalorian Wars, for training so many Jedi who'd joined the war, or after Revan returned as a Sith Lord, for training the guy who was all but exterminating the Jedi Order, or sometime in-between.

I'm sure all of this will be cleared up at some point.

Probably. I hope it's in the comics, where we get to actually see it, rather than in a New Essential Chronology or some other companion book.

I don't know what the deal is. I read something from someone at Obsidian who said LucasArts hasn't given them the go-ahead yet, but then I read something later that claimed LucasArts was interested in continuing the KotOR and Battlefront series. I haven't found any websites that give a specific, definitive account of what the hell is happening behind the scenes, though.

I certainly hope they make a KotOR 3. KotOR 1 and 2 were incredibly successful, so it'd make sense financially, and we've got a whole new generation of consoles that the Star Wars brand hasn't really made a mark on yet. Imagine how orgasmic KotOR 3 would be with a new engine and more expansive storyline to fully take advantage of the 360 hardware... :wow:

The last I heard was that they were thinking of making a KOTOR MMORPG instead.:csad:

Urg, I hate MMORPGs. Why is the whole world so eager to forget about singler-player games? I want an intelligent and engaging story, which you can never, ever get in an MMORPG where you have to constantly worry about dealing with real life bull**** to organize parties and whether you're a high enough level to go on this mission or what-the-****-ever. :cmad:

Indeed. I remember playing Everquest for a week when I was a kid and I had my dad return it for me and cancel my subscription after a week of running around for hours.

Yeah...I've got enough MMORPGs, I don't need another one.
I want a KOTOR 3 with an updated battle system like Final Fantasy XII. The battle systems are similar, but FFXII's was much smoother and easier to deal with. I would think that after The Force Unleashed they will reveal KOTOR 3, and announce to be released around the same time as the Clone Wars series or the live action one.

I hope so. Still, that's a really long time between games. That quote from an Obsidian guy that I read said that Obsidian was ready to go with KotOR 3 in 2004, right after KotOR 2 was 'completed,' but LucasArts wouldn't give them the go-ahead. Maybe they were just waiting until the 360 had developed a decent presence in the market. I doubt they'd want to rely heavily on PC sales, since people have all but abandoned the PC as a gaming system.

I wouldn't want to see any Final Fantasy-style combat systems show up in KotOR. I liked the system they had for the first two games just fine. Auto-pause is the shiznit. :oldrazz:

Not that I know of. It's possible he was one of the armored Mandalorians we've seen so far, but there's been no direct reference to him. I hope he does show up. I hope Bastila shows up, too.

In a tentacle rape cover.

What are the chances of seeing Jolee in the comic? He would've been in his self imposed exile by now right?

Yeah, he would've been like 35 years into it. He went into exile after the war with Exar Kun, which was a generation before the Mandalorian Wars. So, I guess if Zayne ever finds himself on the forest floor of Kashyyyk, there's a chance he could meet Jolee.

I sure hope so, I love me some Jolee Bindo. I hope we never go to Manaan. Probably my least favorite map.
