Star Wars - - - Part 12

I personally definitely both hope and think they are gonna use Lucas story treatments for this sequel trilogy. Set in the same universe, made by the same studio. It won't be that wildly different approach to let's say The Empire Strikes Back.

I think for those who are worrying/complaining – thinking this will be a whole different SW and that Disney are gonna take all control and making these movies – are having the wrong idea.

I don't think so. Because Lucas said they have that and all the EU at their disposal. IMO they will do what is best. And I think they should. Use maybe some of the ideas but that's it.

Okay so what happens with the Clone Wars animation, and that live action TV show that Lucas kept holding back?

No im glad that this may force WB to take more time on JL and do it right and not rush it for the sake of competing with marvel.

I don't see how Star Wars will hinder the release of Justice League.

Just wondering how big is the EU to star wars fans? Is it considered canon to them? If the new series does it's own thing and becomes the "new canon" would fans take that as an insult to the previous eu?
I'd say the general SW fan, the EU isn't big and they haven't digested much of it. The hardcore SW fans are split into those who believe it is canon versus those who don't believe it is. The main reason some consider the EU canon is that Lucas has had some major input on certain storylines.

Well possibly just too much competition in 2015. With The Avengers 2 and Star Wars it will be hard to have a third massive tent pole. But maybe I'm not saying that for sure.

doesnt seem like this is gonna impact what Lucasfilm is doing and since Disney owns a network it may take away some of the cost of a live action show

I don't know… That's not what I have gotten out of all this. We shall wait and see! :)

I'd say three years. I have a feeling they will release this in December since summer is full. It would be huge in December. So I think they have over 3 years.

May. Star Wars is always May.

Great news!

Am I the only one already looking forward to the re-re release of episode 7,8 and 9 in 2035?

With Avengers 2 being set for a May 2015 release, no way Disney puts 2 of their biggest tentpoles in the same month in the same year.

Ya and they will need the time to get it going too. So I think December will be it.

Also, I hope Disney cancels those plans for the remaining 3D re-releases films. Ugh!

the EU is not cannon. Anything that GL actually worked on...the movies and the CW are cannon.

Cannon go boom, as they say at TF.N.

The EU is canon. There's a tiered canon system. G-Canon is the movies and anything GL is involved with. C-Canon is the EU(books, games, comics etc). GL has just reserved the right to take liberties with C-Canon, but other than that anything on the level of C-Canon is beholden to C-Canon. And LFL never made any official statements ejecting the EU and GL has drawn from the EU for his work anyway, rendering some C-Canon material G-Canon. And he's done that in the PT and TCW.

I'm not sure they have complete control over that. I think previous release contracts with Fox need to be sorted out.

You don't have to follow the EU and just focus on G-Canon which is the GL stuff which automatically overrides EU canon. But George Lucas himself asked EU writers not to kill off Quinlan Vos for some reason, not if the EU wasn't canon why would he ask that?

Alot of the EU has appeared in the prequels and The Clone Wars as well. Coruscant existed before The Prequel Trilogy, Aayla Secura was a EU creation as well. There was even talk of Revan and Bane appearing as Force ghosts in Season 3 of TCW. I think the EU is very relevant. (Alot of grey areas sure but still canon IMO)

Personally, while i have enjoyed many of the EU stories and hated others, i wouldnt take it as an insult if they went their own direction with it. If it invalidates some of the EU we already know but they create something that´s better and fun, i'd be more than fine with that. For me, at the end of the day the movies are what's canon. The rest is just having some fun in the SW universe.

At this point, and at this time today after this bombshell, i think i'd rather they went totally fresh here. I just wish they had taken more time with this, although we dont really know how long this has been in the works. But releasing the movie in 2015 seems rushed to me... and this is coming from someone who doesnt mind going to the movies to see anything SW :hehe:. We know how challenging making this type of movies can be, so i just want them to get it right and make something that will contribute to the saga's legacy; something that we will know and love in 30 years still.

As for people asking about the fate of The Clone Wars cartoon: Before the series was produced Lucas always spoke about it being around 100 episodes and 5 seasons long. It has reached that point.

Indeed, a good run...but I can see it lasting longer.

"What we’re buying… is a pretty extensive & detailed treatment for the next three movies.”

Quote from conference call.

I take it as first they will make the sequel trilogy, actual Episode seven, eight and nine. And after that they will start to probably churn out more "individual" movies.

he said he'd like for it to run for at least 100 episodes...this season will put it past 100
