Xbox Starfield

Have we gotten any actual gameplay footage for this or has it been all cinematic trailers?

I'm always a little leery when someone doesn't show gameplay, but its not like Bethesda hasn't previously released games with little or no prerelease footage ( or notice, *coughFallout4cough* ). So its not as worrisome as for some studios. And if anything, Cyberpunk 2077 has perhaps just given an object lesson in not showing gameplay footage until it really is finalized.

Or, I'm not getting hyped, but I'm also not getting worried either. Now, if its this time next year and they *still* haven't shown any gameplay footage, *then* I'll be worried.

From what I am hearing about this game it seems that Bethesda wants this game to be Skyrim in Space. That sounds really cool.

I hope "Alien races confirmed" means our player character can be an alien race. This sounds like it could be right up my alley, also can't wait to see what the inevitable modding community does with this game.

Yeah, that would be great. If there is similarity to Skyrim then that should be possible. Although there is also a realistic side to this with space exploration so we’ll have to see.

So, we see someone climbing a ladder in the trailer, looks like Bethesda may have finally caught up to a 3d game standard that was set in late 90's.

That art is already my wallpaper on my PC. I really feel like this will be something special and it's Todd Howards baby as well. my prediction for the overall size of this game? I'm expecting multiple planets, with some possibly the size of Skyrim. Is that even possible? we'll see.

It feels like Howard is really passionate about this project. It’s so rare they come out with new IPs and it seems he always wanted to do one with a sci-fi/space exploration angle. I reckon he will be bringing his FO3/ES4&5 A-game to this.

I’m really glad the game will have both 1st and 3rd person. I’ll be switching between the 2 a lot.

Starfield Is An Xbox Exclusive, And Pete Hines Is Sorry

“I don’t know how to allay the concerns of PlayStation 5 fans other than to say, well, I’m a PlayStation 5 player as well, and I’ve played games on that console, and there’s games I’m gonna continue to play on it,” Hines said. “All I can really say is, ‘I apologize,’ because I’m certain that that’s frustrating to folks, but there’s not a whole lot I can do about it.”
“You don’t ever want to leave people out, right?”, Howard said. “But at the end of the day, your ability to focus and say, this is the game I want to make, these are the platforms I want to make it on, and being able to really lean [into] those is going to make for a better product.”

Speaking of which... Why isn't the thread in the Xbox section? :sly:

Because it isn't an Xbox exclusive, it is a multiplatform game, since it is still releasing on PC.
So are Redfall, Avowed, Perfect Dark, Hellblade 2, Forza 5 and Halo Infinite. Yet, their respective threads are in the Xbox area and not here...

Some old PS4 games are now on PC (HZD, Days Gone and UC4 is next). Should we move those threads here?

I don't really care, but wish to have some consistency especially when searching for a thread that's been buried deep in a specific sub-forum instead of the whole message board.

Then those Xbox threads should be moved over here for the sake of accuracy, the PS ones are a more grey area, but those games were at least actual exclusives for years.

Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone, Death Stranding and Uncharted 4 should be definitely be moved in the misc and multiplatform section, as they are no longer eXclusives (no thanks to Sony).

As for moving the XboX threads, I wonder how many non XboX 360 games are going to remain in the Microsoft section if all XboX 1 games that were released for PC, are moved to misc/multiplatform section. Yesterday, I looked up the all XBoX One games that weren't released on pc and I only saw four games.

These sections were made for a reason anyway. So its best to just follow that.

Agreed! I feel like with the amount of passion Todd has for this type of game, it's gonna end up being groundbreaking. Plus it's gonna be nice to see BGS step away from Fallout for a while. I loved Fallout 3, and really enjoyed Fallout 4, but as much as I enjoy the series, there's something about it that just doesn't hook me in the way Elder Scrolls does. I've played playthroughs of fallout 4 a few times, though I've only beaten the main quest once in that game, compared to Skyrim where I've done everything numerous times with hundreds upon hundreds of hours put into. It's been 11 years since I've played and beaten Fallout 3! I guess I've always preferred fantasy and science fiction over post apocalyptic, so this is exciting. I've always wanted a massive sci-fi game that feels real and grounded without all the fluff, and this seems like it's gonna give me that.

My passion for BGS goes way back to when Morrowind came out in 2002, so I've been on the hype train a while with this company haha, and it really feels like we're getting that Oblivion era BGS again. Oblivion was industry changing and I still think that game is incredible. And of course, after Starfield, we are getting The Elder Scrolls VI. I think Starfield is gonna be refreshing and then we return to the beautiful world of Tamriel after that. All aboard the hype train!

I want Starfield to be groundbreaking and think it can be. I've also always preferred fantasy and science fiction over post apocalyptic, with the edge going to fantasy. Starfield certainly feels more real and grounded (even though I love the crazier, fantastical Mass Effect type stuff). I expected that from some of the things Howard said ahead of time, with space exploration something that really interests him. I think we will see the best of Bethesda this generation on all fronts!
