Bendis would never beat out Chuck Austen.

Ok, that's silly but he's nowhere near as good as any of the writers before that, Geoff Johns, Busiek, Harras. Even Walt Simonson's sketchy impromptu run (after Roger Stern was fired) is better than BMB's Avengers. For some reason it's bought by the masses.......

I know, that why he's awesome.

I remember the end of Kang Dynasty, after Cap kicked his ass, and he was locked up in prison, awaiting most likely execution, and his son came back and sprung him, with a 100,000 shock troops at the ready to continue their invasion just days after it ended.....and Kang was pissed!

Which lead to one of the best character moments Kang ever had, when he was forced to kill his son.....because he was the best of them...but Kang can't suffer traitors.

Yes the Kang Dynasty was fantastic. Also don't forget his bad ass moment in Avengers Forever, where the Time Keepers tried to turn him into Immortus, and he was so stubborn that he literally caused a rip in reality that forced Immortus to become another being.


Kang is basically the best elements of Steve Rogers (Fighting ability, peak strength, indomitable will, sense of honor, master tactician) combined with Tony Stark (Genius Intelligence, bad ass armor) turned evil, with an entire armada the size of the Kree, Skrull, Badoon, and Sh'iar empires combined times 20.

Here's another point...Bendis has had the book for 7 years, and has yet to write a top 10 avenger arc. There's nothing that can hold a candle to The Kree/Skrull War, The Celestial Madonna, Korvac Saga, Under Siege, Knights of Wungadore, Avengers Forever, Ultron Imperative, The Kang Dynasty etc.

Doom yes, I could see Ultron being there too, but if he didn't make the list I could understand. I'm kind of sick of Dr. Doom a bit being like the villain Batman that can't be beat, but he's certainly top 5. With Doom, Ultron, and Kang I'd add in Magneto and Red Skull or Norman Osborn. I could see a case for Kingpin being in there too.

Here's another point...Bendis has had the book for 7 years, and has yet to write a top 10 avenger arc. There's nothing that can hold a candle to The Kree/Skrull War, The Celestial Madonna, Korvac Saga, Under Siege, Knights of Wungadore, Avengers Forever, Ultron Imperative, The Kang Dynasty etc.

I would go further and say he's actually "ruined" many of those characters.

-he's ignored Marvel Avengers cosmic stories for 7 years
-He messed up the Skrull
-He killed off Wundagore for no reason
-He did nothing with Kang and allowed Kang to slip out of the main avengers writer's control (Heinenberg)
-He botched Ultron and turned him into a chick (thank god the underwhelming Conquest and Slott arcs actually saved him)

-he's hurt classic avengers Hank Pym, Wonder Man, Scarlett Witch, Vision, and Hawkeye, I think he also ruined a decent character in Sentry.
-His attempts at doctor doom have basically sucked

LOVE Carol. My favorite female Avenger (Wanda's my #2). Love her history with the X-Men. Love her battle with alcoholism in the Busiek days. Love her power set. And even though everyone will say it's stupid, I love the possibility of her and Spidey hooking up one day.

Busiek had 3 epic tales...THREE (Ultron Imperative/Avengers Forever/Kang Dynasty). Most guys get to tell only one during their run and not many of those are lucky enough to have it considered and epic or a classic. Bendis has done squat in that regard.

In an interview someday after Bendis leaves the franchise, I'm sure he'll be asked what he considered was his EPIC Avengers story. I guarantee he'll say something ******ed like that they're all epic.
