State Your Opinion on A Character - Part 1

I liked the Jason Rusch/Professor Stein version. Ronnie just sucks. I mean, I know he can be and has been cool at various points, but he's sucked pretty hard since he died and came back, especially whenever he's placed anywhere near Jason.

I don't know a huge amount about the character. I liked the new issue of the current Firestorm series a lot better than the first though and I've liked Jason when he's shown up

I liked Ronnie when he was with the League during....I think it was Kelly's run. I kinda liked Jason. He was okay. I like the idea of them being together now, but from what I hear, it sucks.

So, I guess it's more of an eh.

Kelly's run on JLA was pretty great Firestorm included  Its a pity that it wound up being so short really

They've had arguably the biggest changes post-Flashpoint. Now they each become Firestorm individually, but they can merge into this crazy-ass rage monster called Fury.

When he showed up when I was a kid, he was the greatest new thing. His molecule powers were an "It" power at the time and having Prof. Stein talking to him all the time was great. Plus that flaming head was great.

He was on top of the heap until the Punisher showed up.

I do love the way his powers work, that he can change anything into anything. Its a neat and imaginative idea for a superpower and I dig it

I love Firestorm, every version except this new one which I think was one of the worst in the new 52. Love his design and origin. I like Ronnie and Jason equally.

That's depressing.

I became a fan of Sersi before Firestorm, so I always kind of saw him as a more limited Sersi. You don't really see too many people with matter transmutation powers anymore, though. Sersi and Firestorm both tend to just shoot stuff with energy blasts now.

People noticed that matter transmutation is an insanely broken powerset even by the standards of Marvel/DC comics hero powersets.

Swapping out Ronnie for Ollie in the love triangle with what's her name and what's his name was a big part of what put me off about JL Elite.

Maybe that's not totally fair but it just made me not care really really hard.

I liked him when Conway and Pat Brodrick did his book back in the early 80's. Great costume and powers.

I never cared for the poofy sleeves.
WHAT!!! but you like freaking huge ass bow ties like freaking toy man!!I think those papyrus fumes are might bit to strong oh jackal headed one!:cwink:
FEEL THE FULL FURY OF THE FLOWING SLEEVES!

I'm thinking of checking out some of the older back issues

I have always liked Firestorm's rogues. Killer Frost, Hyena and Multiplex I always thought they were pretty neat

Both incarnations that I've read seem cool to me. The Ronnie version isn't so bad, and with Rusch I really liked his story. Not only is the only black man to ever have a good looking fade in the comics, but he seemed like a lot of people I know. With Professor Stein added I really liked the dynamic they had going.

Was always pretty indifferent to Firestorm. Just completely apathetic.

Damn, forgot to do a new one.

Well, that's it for Firestorm

The Atom (Ray Palmer)

I liked both Atoms, think they're extremely underused. There's a lot of untapped potential there.

Though I never read the series with Ryan Choi, I liked him in the Brave and the Bold as this super uptight scientific hero being forced to team-up with musclebound jocks (Aquaman).

I was quite surprised when they had Deathstroke kill him. Was this amended during the new 52?

As for Ray Palmer...He was used kinda sporadically during the 90s to the 2000s. It was sort of a novelty to see him like in Rock of Ages but he was never really a full-fledged member of any particular team, I think mainly to set him apart from Marvel's size-changing Avenger mainstay.

I wasn't too thrilled about the Jean Loring thing either. Felt very forced and kind of ****ed with a lot of things. The again, Identity Crisis changed way too much of the status quo.

Not sure how the "Hunt for Ray Palmer" went though.

The Atom in the new 52 will be Choi. Palmer is just a scientist working for SHADE at this point.

Choi was awesome as the Atom. Funny, good supporting cast. Even started dating Giganta. Bet he loses everything that made him awesome in the new continuity though.

Ray? Eh, I never really cared one way or the other about Ray.

Eh... I liked Ray. I thought they wasted Choi though...

So happy to hear that Choi is going to be back in the new 52. Though if he isn't dating Giganta anymore I'mma be :cmad:

As for Ray Palmer the first story I read him in was Search for Ray Palmer. And the second was Cry for Justice

I think that put me off him

Ray Palmer is a character like Barry Allen and Hal Jordan that works best in plot-driven science fiction stories that no one in current comics is really capable of writing. Attempts to project nerd soap opera elements on these kinds of characters usually meet with disaster, and they certainly did so for Ray. A character like Ray requires real science-fiction talent and an understanding of things like physics, and there just aren't people doing comics in 2011 that have that capacity. When extreme gore is what is passed off a great stories, characters like the Atom just do not work.
