Fat Albert

Today's.

Ridiculous cartoon artifact from the '70's. Funny catchphrase, pretty indifferent beside that.

besides obesity being the number one cause of death(the kid's 1st name was FAT!) and the stereotypical imagery( why did they have to have a clubhouse in the junkyard?!( why not park avenue?) why did dumb Donald have to wear that ski mask/ cap thingy and mush mouth definitely was hooked on ebonics. but regardless of all that FAT ALBERT WAS the man! that dude taught you life lessons! take a bath, dont steal and and especially the episode where the gang went to an all white school and it was that whole "us" and"them"thing. Fat Albert was the only one saying it's "WE". that dude is cool!

I saw maybe 1-2 episodes & just didn't grab my attention. **shrugs**

I've never seen an episode, but it is on my Amazon Prime watchlist. I have, however, seen Fat Abbot, and I liked that guy.

No offense to Dodds, but how about some actual comicbook characters (instead of characters who happened to have a comic made about them)? It's kind of like.... what is there to say about Fat Albert....?

None taken. :yay:

I do comic characters all the time. In fact 3 threads in, I'd say easily the vast majority of the characters here are original.
But, you're right, I pad things out occasionally with ridiculously obsure stuff or tie-in/licensed books.
I think that's just the nature of these types of threads.

It's like if you were doing the DC version. Yeah, you could start off strong with the JLA and The Joker, etc. but sooner or later you're gonna have to start saving the big guns and use like... Rainbow Rider or something just to keep things going. :o

Having run a few of these threads myself, I can tell you he's doing the right thing. You do not wanna blow your load so to speak too quickly with these. Gotta toss out the nobodies and the barely known's to keep things going.

Plus Fat Albert is the s**t. :argh:

From Wiki:

"Powers is set in a world where superpowers are relatively common but not mundane. It follows the lives of two detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, police officers in a Homicide department devoted to cases that involve "powers" (people with superpowers). Walker himself used to be a costumed superhero named Diamond, but became a police officer after he lost his abilities."

I'm pretty sure I read the first arc years ago and although I vaguely recall enjoying it, evidently it's not very memorable, heh.
I love the idea of a "Superhero-Police Procedural" book though... may give it another try...

Totally Agree!
Plus Fat Albert is the s**t. :argh:
Hell yeah he is!! Fat Albert told you to use soap and water to wash your nasty butt!( especially after gym class).. if you wanna get chicks!!

That's helpful ass information!! "family guy" never gives out help like that!! getting help with chicks is mucho important!
:cwink:

...oh and i got nothing for powers!

Ditto on Powers too, never heard of him.

I really gotta read Powers someday. I like the concept a lot, and I do hope that it's good Bendis ala Daredevil instead of bad dialogue Bendis.

It has a rep. They even tried making a TV pilot a few years ago, although I believe the project's been stuck in development hell for ages.
They cast Jason Patric as Walker and everything. Here's a photo they released a while ago:

Shame because the premise practically begs for a live action adaptation...

Aw you mofo's better get on that. Powers is the s**t. Also, it's not a him, it's the name of a series.

It follows detectives Walker & Pilgrim as they are cops in a world of super heroes. It's like Gotham Central.
if Superman lost his powers and became a cop. :o

This was a fun book in the early 00's, before Bendis became overexposed and began writing about 5 Marvel books a month. Reminded me a bit of Astro-City. Is this still ongoing?

I believe it moved from image to Marvel's Icon imprint a while ago. Volume 3 wrapped up last year and -from what I can gather- they're leaving it open for future volumes.

This quote from Wiki:

Bendis has a "POWERS idea-list" and the two have "enough stories left in [them], and... the audience to keep the book going" for a while yet. Both have repeatedly stated that they "know the ending," not in terms of time frame or issue number, but as a final act of closure, having "promised to never write or draw Powers beyond the amount of fresh ideas" they have.

would seem to suggest that it's not over yet..

Okay, prettty sure these are the last of Valiant guys:

H.A.R.D. Corps

H.A.R.D. Corps was a Valiant Comics title which ran from 1992-1995. The acronym stands for Harbinger Active Resistance Division. The title's focus was a corporate strike team (representing Omen Enterprises) dealing with Toyo Harada, a character from the Harbinger title, and his goal of controlling all Harbingers. The characters were normal humans who were comatose and revived with an experimental brain implant that also enabled them to access an assortment of artificial Harbinger super-abilities via an operator named "Softcore." Capture or death caused the implants to explode, killing the Corps member if he or she was still alive.

H.A.R.D. Corps first appeared in Harbinger #10 (Oct. 1992), and were created by Jim Shooter and David Lapham.

Have they had a comeback with the Valiant revival yet? Most of that stuff is kinda awesome.
