Superman is the greatest hero of all time, period. Read All-Star Superman and bask in his glory. :)

Woah. Those are fighting words, Corp. :csad:

Supes is all right. I can't get into reading him in his title but when he is making cameos or if it is an elseworlds tale or a team book I like him. I wish that the "Last Son of Krypton" meant something, though. Don't truly hate the other Superman Family peeps but wish they didn't exist. Like Superboy is the most I can deal with, but if it was a "one and done huge arc" or he just eventually doesn't exist anymore.

Those aren't fighting words. That's Superman's function within the DC universe: greatest hero of all time. :oldrazz:

Yeah.

That's just Science Fact.

Superman = GOAT.

And if you disagree then you're a f**king terrorist.

I don't understand why people get hung up on the idea that "Superman should be the last son of Krypton, that should mean something!" I mean, yeah, it adds some pathos, but so does the joy in his heart when he discovers that he isn't quite the last. And besides, a handful of other refugees doesn't diminish the tragedy of the deaths of ten billion people.

That being said, New Krypton did take it a lil' too far.

People who hate Superman also hate hugs, rainbows, kittens playing and joy

I'm just saying

I love Superman. When he's written right he's the kindest, bravest and noblest hero of them all. Just like Captain America over at Marvel he's almost impossibly perfect. Never cruel, never hateful, always heroic and caring.

Some people think that makes him boring

These people are wrong

I wonder how much that would go for on Ebay.

All the superhero porn movies that have come out lately have made it less valuable unfortunately

I like Superman and I know he is the 1st hero but it annoys me how they make him such a huge powerhouse that he might as well just be a god. And it doesnt mean that he has to be the first hero in DC. If DC wanted that then they should make him older then he is. He doesnt have to be all powerful: moving planets, breathing in space, anything you can do I can do better.

And to me Superman has always been the disguise.

Clark Kent is for me the disguise, Superman/ Kal-El is strong and can help, he's a savior and a simbol of hope

I've always thought of them as being the same person

Clark just uses his powers when he's Superman and doesn't when he's Clark

Likewise. Any difference in attitude between Clark and Superman is just like seeing a cop, on duty and off duty. He's not faking any of his character traits in either identity (except for maybe the occasional coffee spill or something as Clark to distract people from seeing him casually save some random guy from a nearby accident). Clark is still Superman, with the same values and everything. It's just that a spotlight isn't being shined on him during those times and he's not punching monsters in the face or doing any huge, inspirational, earth saving shenanigans that makes the world collectively look up to him.

And even in his civilian life, Clark still goes about the same mission he does as Superman, fighting the good fight and everything. He just happens to do it as an investigative journalist, not an alien monster puncher.

And thats why I :hrt: Clark

Even when he had no powers he kept fighting crooks and villains using his skills as a reporter instead of superpowers

I preferred him as the true last son of Krypton (with room for Zod to be Kryptonian as well, but only him) because it made him something of the ultimate orphan/outcast. Unlike people with families and childhood friends and such, Superman gets to build his own family--the Matrix Supergirl, the clone Superboy, Steel, the Eradicator, et al.--and they're all unified by this underlying orphan/outcast theme. They're the dregs that no one wants and the remnants of things forgotten, but they wind up becoming, through Superman, heirs to the greatest heroic legacy of all time. That's kind of neat to me.

In 20 years when the next reboot and regression comes along, It'll be nice to see all that come back. :o

I find Superman boring to read. It's always the same old same old. But he is the superhero. So I don't hate him and I appreciate him for what he is.

I don't really get that. How is Superman "same old same old" anymore than any other character?

Superman bores me. There was a time where I used to love him as a kid, but as I got older I find him very boring. They should send him out in space like Silver Surfer.

I was never into Superman being the LAST SON OF KRYPTON thing since unless Krypton didnt believe in any kind of travel, more then likely there would be some off world doing whatever. But I did like how the animated series dealt with it, with Kara being from Kryptons sister planet Argo.

I guess, maybe it was the time frame I was reading? Happily married, Alter Ego/Heroic life balanced out, etc. It just seems like all they do is throw overpowered super being after overpowered super being at him.
I never felt any character development unless it was overly sentimental nostalgic flashbacks to Smallville. Superman is what he is. An honorable stand-up guy.. dare I say it? :o A Boy Scout and it's boring for me to read. I want angst, or normal, everyday problems and issues.

Basically, I'm just not that into him.

Then maybe you should try out the new and improved, Goldenage Superman that's in Action Comics.

Beating up wife beaters, giving dirty business men the business. He can't even fly yet if you have a problem with Supes' power level.

I find Superman's dual identity to be the most interesting aspect of the character, unlike most super heroes where its either simply a practical necessity (Batman, Spider-Man, etc.) or an artifact of when every super hero had one (Wonder Woman and Captain America before it was dropped entirely).

But with Superman, it actually says a lot about who he is and reveals a great deal of complexity in him.

He is an inherently exceptional individual raised in a very mundane but very loving and nurturing environment. Because of this, he wants contradictory things. He wants to be Superman. He wants to use his powers responsibly and help people, but he also does want to revel in his uniqueness. He wants to feel the joy of flight. He wants to indulge his super senses and take in the sights and sounds of the Earth in ways few others can. He wants to use his amazing abilities without having to hide them from the world. In essence, he wants to be himself.

At the same time, he wants to be Clark Kent. He wants to live a life with a degree of anonymity, to be able to walk down the street or down to the corner store for some coffee like a normal person and not get recognized or hounded for it. He wants to be able to enjoy the quiet moments in life, like sitting down with a bit of light reading after a hard day at the office or talking a moonlight walk on a cool October night with friends and loved ones. He wants to be able to take a break from being a larger than life personality and be the kind of person who can fade into a crowd or can be seen as flaed but genuinely good. He wants to prove himself as an individual in areas where his powers give him no advantage, such as writing, and he wants to use his intelligence to help people as a writer and activist that a larger than life personality like Superman lacks the subtlety for. In essence, he wants to be himself.

The problem he faces is that the "real him" is inherently contradictory, and he finds that the only way to be himself is to lie about who he really is.

That's a fairly heavy concept that doesn't get explored nearly enough.

I preferred him as the true last son of Krypton (with room for Zod to be Kryptonian as well, but only him) because it made him something of the ultimate orphan/outcast. That is pretty neat. I guess along with that there is room in my heart for Silver Age Supergirl.

I hope this time around with this Nuboot, they atleast let Superman reveal his secrets to some of his super close friends who arent necessarly other heroes or just Lois. I think it's about time they let Jimmy in on the secret. Giving Clark a supporting cast that knows his dual identity can only open it up to some more stories to tell.
