State Your Opinion on A Character

He does shape shift into both male and female. We dont really see his personal life much I guess he could pursue relationships with both genders

I wouldn't be at all surprised if J'onn was bi  or even omnisexual like the dashing Captain Jack Harkness

Honestly, J'onn strikes me as pretty asexual. Partly due to his biology and sexual "needs" being wildly different from a human's, and partly because of the whole "watching my family burn to death" thing. That can't put you in a good mindset for going out on dates.

I don't even think he should be built for sex as we know it.

They're telepathic shape shifters. For all we know sex for martians is turning into goo, and melding together sharing their minds, and protoplasm and s**t.

He gets the equivalent of an erection just from ideas.

His equivalent to a strip club is probably going to a Barns and Noble near a college campus and talking with hipsters about Preust.

I'm just saying. Play up the alien angle. With the exception of Superman (Who grew up here on Earth so socially he should be human. But even then, there should be SOME kind of physical difference.) I think they should really be more alien.

Thannagarians should lay eggs.

People from Rann should get super horny when they come into contact with copper.

Atlantian cuisine is filled with fish poop. :o

Why not do both

I think it's important for stories to highlight the problems with society that have to change as well as offering a hopeful vision of how good things could be
I'm fine when you can do both. I just want it to always be organic.

I fundamentally disagree with this being the beginings of any character: "Oh my god guys, we need more positive gay characters. Let's create a really cool lesbian!!!"

I think that diminishes the value of a character. Like I said before, the thing I love about Batwoman is, her sexuality is just one of many positive aspects about her. That's organic writing.
I'm fine with them writing characters as positive lgbt characters if it means we have more positive lgbt characters in comics

That's what i care about and what I want to see
Oh, I want to see it to. But I think it should be done in a much more subtle way than, "Hey! We turned WW gay! Now lesbians have a positive role model!!!" That just seems like a cheap stunt to me.

He did have a romantic and sexual relationship with Scorch im JLA and seemed to truly love her so he is definitely interested in humans in that way I think

And in devil girls in leather who can produce fire from their hands

J'onn is a kinky mutha :awesome:

I definitely agree. His speices having gender never made any sense to me. He doesn't have functioning genetalia a good chunk of the time. I always imagined Martian biology working the way Changelings in Star Trek are described: Their "true form" is a mass of sexless protoplasm held together by something that resembled a nervous system but if much more plastic in it's structure. Two members of the speices need to mate with each other in order to produceoffspring and ensure genetic diversity, but it can be any two.

That makes sense in a techno babble-y way. Martians having organs and set genders does not.

Makes me think of Xavin from Runaways and her not quite getting the conceot of gender with humans and viewing changing gender the same as changing clothes

J'onn being an alien and a shape changing alien at that I really doubt he has the same thoughts about gender or sexuality as we do. It could make for an interesting story if he had a romance with a human man or woman.

Thannagarians should lay eggs.

Hell, Thanagarians should look like birds with extra limbs that have oposable thumbs. Thier normal form should be some kind of glamour while amung humans.

And I've alwas thought that one thing DC should have borrowed from Milestone was the bit in Icon's origin where his ship made him look human when he crashed on Earth and used that for Superman. Have Kryptonians look sufficiently alien and have it so his ship altered him to resemble the nearest intelligent life forms. You could even use that to have it be that he looks like what Jonathan and Martha's biological son would look like if she could conceive, which was used as part of the ruse that he is actually theirs.

If they did play that up with J'onn, that he's from a race of genderless telepathic shapeshifters who thus look for more inner qualities, he'd be really useful for examining human sexual relations from an outsider's perspective so we don't get so hung up on the idea of what is and isn't "normal."

I am reliably informed by Dr Frank N Furter that a mental mind **** can be nice

Hawt :ninja:

Personally as long as they don't use the characters sexuality for exploitation or make the character a horrible stereotype I wouldn't mind if the character was created to be a 'really cool lesbian'. If she was really cool and fun to read about I would just be glad that there was another great gay character out there who wasn't horifically stereotypical or totally one dimensional

I'm looking right at you Northstar :ninja:

I certainly agree that theirs a lot to love about Batwoman. It's why she's my favourite character right now. Her bravery, honour, humour and general bad ass-ness are all reasons I adore Kate as well as her natural heroism

She's one of my heroes.

I agree that it shouldn't be exploitative or stereotypical. If Wonder Woman ever did come out of the closet I would want it to be handled well

And by that I mean 'written by Greg Rucka or someone at least half as good as Greg Rucka'

Wonder Woman, a cool character when done in the way of Justice League Animated.

I think I've said it a couple of times that Wonder Woman could easily be the Thor of the DCU. She's got ties to Hellenistic Gods, Superhuman abilities to rival some of the best metahumans in the DCU and the compassion to make Mother Teresa look like Malcolm X in comparison...unless you piss her off.

Visually, I like how she looks. I mean...there's a little too much Red, White and Blue for a character who supposedly has little to do with America but I think she looks best in a lot of her combat armor and swords and shields to make me wish she'd keep that look.

That's what she should be, the Goddess of Compassion and War all in one. And there's no saying why she can't. Heck, maybe if a writer had the guts, he/she could have Diana fight her way to making herself Queen of Olympus and the Gods themselves. She's the female Achilles, the modern Perseus, the morally aligned Heracles. There's SO much they could do with this...WITHOUT having to really so much on T&A, romance and so on.

Have her fight Darkseid, have her kill Ares and assume Godhood, have her actually use political statesmanship to gain a victory without lifting a single weapon. Its all in her resume!

Manhunter Freakin Rocks!! That dude has been the heart and soul of the Justice league( he even put up Vibe's break dancing ass!) and almost every incarnation of the JL.Though he's like Supes being last of his kind. My boy cant fit in like Clark does and that makes him even more cool! I cant understand alot of humans and i am one of em( well i think i am!) i was sooooooooo freaking Pissed when they killed him! The dude is one of the hella most powerful characters in comics and just as noble as The surfer is!i didn't even care that for the longest time that he only wore boots and a Speedo with straps!(hey! So that outfit! didn't rock !),but MM does!

Maybe they do 'Nubsy

And that's why my date with Mera was awful

Well that and it was when she was a Red Lantern and she melted the waiter

Always liked Martian Manhunter, wish I could read more stuff with him in it playing a big role. Loved him in Crisis of Conscience and Trial By Fire. Those two are the main stories that strike me with him though and then there's that 1 arc from the JLDetroit days with Despero. That was pretty interesting.

The JLI stuff with him was pretty great and good fun to read :up:Th

He's pretty cool. I'm actually reading Robinson's Starman run right now and The Shade is absolutely great in it.

I definitely prefer the character as having a complex morality system. He will do everything to protect Opal city, but sometimes turns to villainy because he's just bored or just because he really likes a piece of artwork or something.

I've always liked that morality change in immortal characters. It's like they have seen everything there is to see, so they just do whatever to help pass the time.

The Shade

I really dig the character

I love his look and the way Robinson wrote him throughout Starman as this charming morally grey rogue who's been both hero and villain depending on how he felt at the time

Cannot wait for his mini series :atp:

I really liked what Metzler did with him in The Archer's Quest, almost used him as a time capsule in a way.

I always get him confused with Shade, the Changing Man. Mostly because I don't know dick about either.

The Shade is awesome.

One of the best Characters at DC you people don't know about. :o

AWESOME. A Victorian Age bad guy with Victorian age code of honor yet still a prick. An Immortal, one of the few who has a link to the Shadow World and a guy who duked it out with some of the best (Alan Scott, Jay Garrick, Barry Allen...just to name a few) and lived to tell the tales of it.

I liked the Simon Culp angle though it might seem very far-fetched to some but I thought it sort of made sense near the end of Grand Guignol. He's even got a blood-feud with a family dedicated to killing him, the Ludlows which makes for interesting drama.

But most of all, I dig his reverence for Opal City. It was the city he watched grow, protected in his own way and ran to when he was done with crime. A weird combination when you think about it.

I'd take the Shade over Obsidian, Shadow Lass and Nightshade any day of the week.

Heck, he should get an invite to the JSA having been around THIS long.

The Flash (Barry Allen)

flash-2.jpg

Brilliant Police Scientist. Time and space travailing lightening bolt. Random and yet not random chemicals. Fastest Man Alive.

I didn't mind him, but the Johns love really makes me wish he stayed dead.

Don't know a thing about Barry. Don't have any interest in him to be honest. Don't like how DC is forcefully shoving him down Flash fan throats and I wasn't even an old reader of Flash. They are treating every other speedster without any respect for the sole reason of having Barry back and giving a small amount of respect to Bart but if you ask me it is only because TT "needs a Kid Flash".
