Its a shame.

I thought it was a pretty interesting concept. A pulp hero, a comic hero and the marriage of the two concepts in Batman, teaming up.

I've only read about "pulp" and know a couple of examples like The Shadow and Doc Savage, is the Spirit regarded as pulp?

Will Esiner's "the Spirit" is the stuff of legends. I read reprints of him long time ago. Alot of major heroes take elements of the spirit and incorporate into their character!Phantom Stranger, Viglante, The Specter and awhole slew of others in my opinion. i will never ever ,ever never watch that piece of *&^%$ that Frank Miller produce and thus never having seen it. The Spirit ROCKS!!

Pulp refers to two things: A medium of publishing (pulp novels were cheaply produced on an inexpensive supstance called pulp paper) and the genre of storytelling that was most commonly associated with said medium (very boy-ish adventure stories). The Spirit is 100% a comic character, but in terms of storytelling style he has some pulp elements.

I really enjoyed the Spirit comic books that I've read and I think he's a great character

I really hope he gets another series some day

I only knew about the character in passing, often seeing his hardcover collections in the library and figured he was way too old timey for me.

Then I saw the Miller movie.

I didn't need to read the source material to know that the character was being butchered.

That film is amazing to watch while drunk on cheap wine with friends though

The girlfriend and I watched it with some friends during a movie night and none of us could stop laughing during the whole film

The moment we saw Samuel L Jackson in a Nazi uniform was the moment we all realised the film had entered realms of glorious nonsense that only Frank Miller could imagine

The Spirit is top ten all time greatest comics characters ever, IMO. The original Spirit sections by Eisner are required reading. Darwyn Cooke's series from a few years back was a worthy revival. He, Steve Rude and Kyle Baker are the first three guys that come to mind in being good enough to do a modern Spirit.

The movie is wretched even by Frank Miller standards.

She looks great in comics but her portrayal is iffy. Dini writes her best 'cause she's essentially his baby but other writers have made good use of her as a character.

Appearance-wise, she wouldn't work in movies if they tried to be faithful to the comics. I think her look in Arkham City...as distasteful as it was can be pulled of pretty easy. I think I saw some gothic loli types cosplaying as her not to long back.

She has one of the most annoying voices of all time, and for this I want to Falcon Punch her neck.

I think what I love most about Harley is that, by the nature of her personality, she can fit into almost any tone. She works in comedies, dramas, slapstick, satire, noir, and horror. She can be cute, she can be funny, she can be sexy, and she can be incredibly terrifying. The Joker has the same thing (well, sexy is a matter of taste...), but because he's pegged down with the honor of being Batman's arch enemy, then he's generally used to be terrifying more often than not. Only a few stories (The Dark Knight and Arkham City being the first to spring to my mind) shift between all of those states for him effortlessly. Otherwise, he's usually just a straight up monster clown.

Harley does not have that problem. Because she's a supporting character, and one with ties to a lot of characters besides The Joker, we get a lot more variation out of her, which is nice. And her backstory and corse personality is, regardless of the story she's in, brilliant and very, very sad in a way that is fantastic for stories.

Also, I would totally motorboat it.

I was shipping that long before Dini confirmed it was canon

They make the cutest couple ever
