Stephen King's 'Carrie' remake

Why are they releasing Halloween type movies, in the spring? This and Hansel and Gretal, not to mention Dark Shadows, are fall type/Halloween kind of movies. It kind of takes me out of the mood to watch this in the earlier part of the year.

Um Yeah Carrie was never a Halloween type movie

all I can say about the trailer is............:wow:

Moretz is insanely mature acting for her age, similar to how Fanning used to be. I know she's 15, but the 15 year olds you know at this point in time, they pretty much are the exact opposite.

Oh Gawd.... there's going to be a countdown thread for when she turns 18, isn't there? :csad:

Amusingly, the spam code when I uploaded this pic was 'do unto others'

Yes it is. It's a horror movie, written by the king of horror himself, Stephen King. And horror movies benefit from being released around Halloween, or at least in the fall months. But either way, just look at any top movies to watch for Halloween, and Carrie is usually in there.

Not to mention the original movie premiered 3 days after Halloween.

But the book came out in April. I think it can be a Halloween movie but it isn't shackled to that day.

Never said it wasn't shackled to Halloween, but to say it's not right around Halloween time is laughable.

Horror movies have almost always had releases near Halloween time considering the holiday. It hasn't been that long that horror became more involved in summer releases.

This is NOT a remake, it's a re-adaptation of the novel.

There's a difference between a remake and a re-adaptation. Re-adaptation means if it's based on a book/novel/story/novella/comic then it's another adaptation like say The Thing (1982) which was NOT a remake of the 1951 movie but another adaptation of "Who Goes There" by John Campbell and was more faithful to the novella than 1951's version which was a poor adaptation but good as it's own movie.

A remake means if it's NOT based on a book/comic/novel/novella and based on an original idea then it's a remake like say Ocean's 11 or Fright Night

Not really...at all.

I mean Prom Night and My Bloody Valentine are both horror movies too but that doesn't make them Halloween movies.

Furthermore, while Carrie is well liked and considered to be many to be a great film, I actually haven't seen it on too many lists of "best horror film."
Like Filmschoolreject's tournament of horror films recently, started with a list of 40 great horror films. To get to that number they got into some pretty obscure titles. Carrie though wasn't included. Other King adaptations were however.

At the same time the film is sure to be trading on some very well established imagery. Regardless of their intention in making the film, the story comes with the baggage of earlier adaptations.

I actually can't wait for this, Chloe looks like she putting a lot into this role.

I gonna admit, I'm actually intrigued by this movie, because I really like Chloe and I think her performance is going to lift this movie up. Btw, does anyone know if this will be rated PG-13 or R?

It does make sense, it'll definitely make more money during Halloween.

The original Carrie was great. They should remake the mediocre ones like Running Man, Thinner, Firestarter etc, etc... (And I have nothing against remakes in general.)

Screen Gems and MGM have moved the film back from March 15 to October 18.

Guess the once-juggernaut Paranormal Activity franchise isn't dominating the scary movie market in October anymore...

I think the novelty of PA is wearing off. WIth found footage horrors having wide releases throughout the year and the fact that there has been a new PA every single year for the last 4 years I feel that people are getting relatively tired of them.

But PA will always make a profit since their so cheap to make.

Carrie potentially can take the #1 it's weekend but I think it'll fall too 2nd to PA5 in it's second week

Eh, I don't know about that. This isn't your typical horror/slasher film. If anything, it's more of a psychological thriller.

Sucks we have to wait that much longer.

It's also a pop culture horror thing. Everybody knows Carrie and the iconic imagery.

I think this got delayed in order to give Sony more of a chance to market the Evil Dead remake more. That's out in April, and I'm PRAYING it won't get delayed, either. We have one teaser poster for it, one promo image, and one red-band trailer. They need to get the ball rolling on marketing that one BIG TIME, so something had to give. What do you guys think?
