Stephen King's 'Carrie' remake

Pennywise was great, but beyond that, It was pretty terrible. I watched it again after re-reading the book recently, and I really didn't like the movie at all.

They did a much better job with The Stand, but that had the same problem that lies with a lot of Stephen King novels: he just doesn't write very good endings.

The Stand was just as disappointing an adaptation, honestly. At least IT did Pennywise justice with casting Curry and making him scary as hell. The Stand dropped the ball with Flagg.

I just think late 80s/early 90s TV just wasn't the best place for them. Now, both being adapted now as miniseries on HBO? I would be all over that.

Well Darabont just gets King. Same with Rob Reiner.

At the very least Reiner related to King through growing up in the same era.

Okay, I'm sure this has been brought up before, but how cool would it be if this movie was the launching platform for a Cinematic Stephen King Universe? All of his books reference each other in small ways, sometimes in big ways. I think it would be awesome to have film versions of his stories that all take place in the same world, with the same actors in some cases. It might be smart from a marketing perspective, though not anywhere as profitable as the MCU, since there is no "Avengers" style team-up in the Stephen King universe. Unless you made The Dark Tower the keystone...

The only caveat about this idea for me is that I think that IT and The Stand each need to be a ~10 episode HBO series rather than try to pack all that glorious story into one movie or a crappy TV movie. They need to remake them in any case, because the old versions were extremely underwhelming...

Anyway, about the Carrie remake... I hope it's good. I need to get around to reading the book at some point, it's one of the only ones I haven't read. Was the original movie any good?

I wouldn't necessarily care to see any real official connection between movies, but certain associations and references would be fine I guess.

An example with another writer's work,
American Psycho makes reference to Patrick's brother Sean, who is the main character in Rules of Attraction. The latter film is just fine without Christian Bale showing up though.

Maybe King should set up a deal with HBO to basically do like an anthology series, with each "season" adapting one of his longer novels. Or, say it's a 10-12 episode season, slightly shorter (but still long enough) books could be 5-6 episodes, with two books getting adapted that season. It wouldn't be TOO different from how American Horror Story is done on FX.

LOL, ever since The Avengers people want to see a shared universe with everything.

Wreck-It Ralph.....that little girl had a.....Buzz Lightyear keychain?!!!!

Well hey, I wanted this before The Avengers, because the shared universe aspect of Stephen Kings work is super cool to me. Especially after I read "The Complete Universe of Stephen King". If you read that, you might see what I'm talking about.

Only the movies that are based off works that have a shared universe really.

And before Avengers there's been many mashup idease for movies; the want of it isnt anything new.

I've never read it, I'll have to check it out.

I know, just been seeing the 'shared universe' thing much more these days.

I finally got around to tracking down a copy of the book. Read most of it this morning and finished it a little bit ago.

The book was pretty great. Having read many of King's other stories and books, it was interesting to see some of his style and devices in early forms.

What really struck me about reading the book is how much of the pre-prom material was adapted almost exactly from the page in DaPalma's film, including much of the dialogue.

While I have no problem with the original film's ending being smaller scale than the novel's, I am excited that the remake is making use of its resources to bring about the large scale destruction on screen. I have no doubt that all involved will do a good job updating and portraying everything that comes before. I am really excited to see what Moretz and Moore, two of my favorite actresses, can do in the roles of Carrie and her mother.

Also, I think it's safe to say that we'll likely get a new trailer in a few weeks with the Evil Dead, seeing as they're both from Sony and had panels together last fall.

I was just looking at the cast list for this and all the other actors playing high school aged characters are almost a decade older than Moretz!

wow those posters remind me of the Thor 'character posters'.

Yeah they're the exact same font I do believe. Also taking out all the color except red.

I have to say Julianne as Carrie's mom is good casting that poster IS great. I just wish this damn movie came out next month not October :argh:

Hell the original release date was next week wasn't it?

but Prom month would not have been a bad time to release this, but then again at least one horror film in October will be nice since Evil Dead and Lords of Salem come out in April for some reason.

That shirt doesn't even begin to make sense. Drenched in blood, with perfect hair. haha.
