Stephen King's 'Carrie' remake

And you never considered perhaps the reason why she hates her daughter and thinks she is a demon is because she is mentally unstable?
maybe she hates her because she got raped by her husband before he left her ? and after that Carrie was born :cwink:

Anyone else think Chloe is far too good looking for this part? Sissy Spacek looked really plain Jane-ish in the original.

I have heard this before. It still makes me giggle.

Feel free to expand on the humour of it.

She is a 15 year old girl and looks like one. She has the appropriate natural awkwardness, not to mention she is a 15 year old girl.

Ok, she looks 15, I don't get how that changes anything from what I asked.

Unless you're 15 yourself, whether she is pretty or not really shouldn't matter.

What we should be looking for here is performance. If she is too cute for you, perhaps she will be able to make herself less so through her acting.

Well it kinda does if she's suppose to be playing some social outcast. Yes it may come through performance but I viewed the new trailer and had to laugh because I didn't buy it that a girl who looks like her would have problems making friends or be out of place dating the high school jock. Sissy Spacek really looked out of place.

So because one can be perceived to be nice looking, it is impossible for them to be social outcast? I think people forget how much simply be considered odd can get you. That and getting on the wrong side of a popular person.

I think Moretz once said that they considered her "too pretty" for the role, but then cast her. There must be a reason why that is.

We're also talking about a movie. I get it it may come through in performance and with Chloe it won't surprise me because she's damn good for a 16 year old. That said I do think she's too pretty for the role, they could have at least ugly-ed her up a bit more.

If she's new to the school, anti-social or not part of the clique she could easily be treated horribly. Even if she's pretty that can pose as a threat to other girls. Girls are vicious!

You have a point there actually. Dudes just fight, girls are freakin' cruel.

she looks like an atractive 15 girl. there is no way that boys would make fun of her . they think only about one thing.so she doesnt work in this movie IMO.

i think the scene where they throw tampons at her worked in the first movie. old horror movies had this ''over the top'' feeling. this will be a straight movie. oen girl doing it? yes. two? yes of course. but more then 5 ? no way.

Oh, ye gads, this looks awful.

Julianne looks pretty good, though hopefully not as one note as it appears to be written.

And yes, they did indeed reveal way too much. Yes, everyone knows the story, but you shouldn't give away that many key money shots in the trailer.

Hmmm....not really feeling that trailer and I really want to like this movie. Carrie just seems way too cool and stylish. In the 1976 she looked like an outcast. She was poor, dirty, extremely shy, head always down, and you just can't but feel so bad for her.

She just doesn't look like an outcast or someone who would have difficulty making friends. I've been in high school...you can see the school pariahs from a mile away.
why does someone need to look ugly and dirty to be an outcast:huh:

there are plenty of good looking people who have gotten bullied it is not just because a person is good looking that makes them immune to being bullied

This trailer really didn't impress me, usually I'm impressed with what Chloe does but here she doesn't seem to fit the part. She does look too normal compared to everyone else in The school scenes.

Yeah attractiveness doesn't really matter when you're from a socially derided religious nut family and you think tampons are for fixing lipstick (if that's an element retained from the book).

And while Spacek has some different looks I would have hardly ever called her unattractive, especially at the prom scene.

The original film is very accurate to the book up until the prom.

It looks like this will also be fairly accurate to the book set in a modern setting but with the proper ending restored.

How exactly is this a problem?

... The hell is ye gads?

Oh new kid... trying to seem cool by acting all tough and cynical. :o

Who's being cynical? Am I not allowed to give my opinion? Or is my opinion just less valid because I'm the "new kid" on the sacred superhero forum?

It looks like a huge pile of **** to me. And you know what? More than likely, it will be a huge pile of ****.

man the new kids have been trolling shh lately lol i can name atleast 3 lol

I'm just not feeling it. And I'm not a knee-jerk remake hater. The new trailer gives away the entire movie. I might be the source material giving me pause too, and I don't necessarily mean that in a negative way. The book is good and DePalma's movie is excellent, but I read the book once eons ago and I think I've only actually seen the movie one time. It's just such a depressing, frustrating, ugly experience that I'm not in a hurry to revisit it.

Understandable.

I enjoy DePalma's film a lot, and the book, while pretty rough as a bit of early King is still quite good.

My problem with it though is that it has given pop culture the archetype of the bullied loner who finally lashes out which dictates discussions after school shootings and the like even when it is inaccurate.
