Horror Stephen King's "IT" Part I and Part II

I'd love to see an anthology series on The Interludes of Derry! Most likely won't happen, though!

Jay Bauman of RedLetterMedia summed up my thoughts with this line, "I didn't hate it but I didn't like it and I wanted to leave".

Looks like they de-aged Ben in some of the flashbacks and it looked so awkward when they were in the clubhouse that we never saw in the first movie. They also changed Eddie's voice in those scenes. It's so awkward and distracting but I knew it was coming because the kids would age and the movies producers couldn't help themselves but to give us more of them.

There was too much going on, it was too bloated.

So it was an adaptation of a Stephen King book is what you're saying.

Yep, and it's an adaptation that the film makers were willing to make significant changes to but none that make it better as a film.

My biggest gripe was ..........

[/SPOILER]

I was extremely disappointed that Christine did not make an appearance when Henry escaped from the Mental Hospital and got into a blue car instead. That, along with a final scene of Christine driving out of Derry would have been AWESOME!!

I hate that they hit us over the head with a flashback to the first movie to let us know who it was driving the Camaro and handing over the knife.

Well to be fair they kinda had to. I had a couple behind me that didn't know it was the same dude until then.

From what I gathered from interviews and talking to Andy himself ;while he iterates that there is no plans for future installments, if there is going to be some kind of continuation to the series he would absolutely only be interested in the mythology of Pennywise and through the years in Derry. There’s a very precise shot towards the ending of the movie that looks over mikes book “The History of Old Derry” and that’s no coincidence.
If I had to predict what would be made next, it would absolutely be an anthology of all the historical events involving Pennywise, expanding on the interludes in the novel. The Bradley gang, the ironworks explosion, the black spot and the Claude Heroux incident, all of which are referenced in the films. Chosen Jacobs as Mike would likely star in said series if this would come to pass.

Maybe if it's really good, Pennywise can show up in the Dark Tower series.

It definitely wasn’t as good as the first. The scares became repetitive after awhile. The humor was fine in some parts but in others it totally was out of place (“Angel in the morning”). I didn’t feel like Pennywise was barely in it though.

How they killed Pennywise made no sense, and Stanley’s letter was unnecessary. It’s ok to say he was just a chicken that didn’t want to face Pennywise again.

The more I think about that letter, the more it really bothers me.

Curious to see what scenes Andy Muschietti is going to film for the supercut.

Hopefully he alters the ending a bit to be more like the novel. Just watched this and really liked it but was annoyed at
Baby IT. I guess they did show IT's true form but just with the clown face still there. As a fan of the book I wish they hadn't chickened out and kept in mentions of Maturin and more of IT's past.

I was definitely feeling the movie's length by the end but it was still solid. They should have just left out Bowers. He just took up screen time and wasn't used all that well. I would have been fine if they made it so he had died when he fell down the well in the first film.

Did anyone else notice some jarring tone changes? For a second I couldn't tell if the Bowers scenes were supposed to be comedic. And of course "Just call me angel, in the morning, Angel!"

I gotta say, Chapter 2 was crap. But at least I got to see Chastain being all bae and stuff.

I was convinced to see this for a second time. Man... Bill Hader made this movie. He was so good and hopefully his career skyrockets after this.

In terms of enjoyment this was a 5/10 for me. On a technical level it was well made and well acted, but I just didnt care about it and didnt feel any fear.

Pennywise was criminally underused. Should have cut those Henry scenes and replaced them with Pennywise scenes.

The house of mirrors scene and the scene under the bleachers were my favorite scenes and the film needed more of that and less humor.

The finale fell flat and the spider form of Pennywise was just goofy looking.

I didnt like how Mike was portrayed and I didnt like how the Losers treated him like some crazy hermit.

Curious to see what scenes Andy Muschietti is going to film for the supercut.

Why would he film more? They had a 4 hour assembly cut and a 197 minute rough cut before the 170 minute final cut. There is plenty of material on the cutting room floor.

I felt like it's purpose was to show why Richie has been insecure to come out

I must have missed it when did the film reveal
Richie was gay?

Pretty sure the scene in the arcade was when the movie really implied he was gay.

It probably didn't hit a lot of people till that dirty little secret part.

I'm actually shocked by how badly WB dropped the ball on this. It doesn't even feel like the same team of Chapter I were involved. Pennywise is barely used, Henry's scenes are comical, and the odd mix of tone within a single sequence is baffling.

See, I don't think the movie needed more Pennywise. It probably has as much Pennywise as the first film did, if not more. To me the issue comes with how repetitive the movie is (both internally and when it comes to the first film), while not having much to actually say.

One of the big problems with how they divided up the movie, is that they basically told the character arcs in the first film. So what you have here is a bunch of characters who don't have arcs. The movie is strangely super exposition based. Rarely stops with the exposition. This is why I think they needed to bring in elements from the book they ignored. Flashbacks shouldn't have been such a large part of this film. Moments? Yeah. A big chunk of the movie? They served no narrative purpose that could not have been told in the present. It just adds runtime.

Also an easy way to make it different from the first would have been making this film not just about Pennywise, but Derry itself. The realization that it is more then the clown.

This is just me being nitpicky, but the flashbacks all took place in 1989 right? In one of the Richie flashbacks to the arcade there is clearly a Mortal Kombat game which came out in 1992. *nerd guffaw*

Just saw an interview with Andy Muschietti, and he said he will release the blu-ray after this film with two super-cuts of both films, with loads more footage, and he is going back to film more footage for the blu-ray.

The fact that Derry had little to no presence in this movie was really underwhelming.
