That version on the right is more effective.

Huge fan of the book and also the early 90s mini-series. IT is one of my favorite novels of all time so I'm obviously vested in this project.

I really loved the first photo they released of the closeup. It was enough to get me excited for the new version of Pennywise.

Now, this new picture? Not so much.

I mostly don't like the costume, way too billowy. It's just overkill. Like someone else wrote, evokes an adult trying to dress like a little girl from the 1800s.

I can't help but think the designers could have come up with something else that conveyed the time IT has been on Earth. Also not feeling the head as much as the closeup, his hair is lookin like a Dragon Ball Z character and his menacing look isn't communicating clown as much as some white faced demon entity, which is somewhat accurate but the clown guise is more important.

Oh well, it's only s still. Most people I've seen here and elsewhere on the internet dig the design. I think the costume is overdone, especially the flared waist. I prefer the MC Hammer yellow pants on Curry's deisgn and the birthday clown look more but like I said, the first picture had me really excited so I'm still down to see this ASAP

Lost Boys
Vamp
Fright Night

The 80s made the best/scariest vampires.

Never saw Vamp, but Lost Boys and Fright Night vampires were not half as creepy as Mr Barlow and his legion.

Near Dark and Fright Night for me

they were creepy. but Fright Night was more relevant to me. because I live in the burbs. having a vampire move in next door was a little more effective, imo.

I loved Jerry Dandridge. Better than any of the vamp teens in The Lost Boys. But the vampires in Salems' Lot were on another level. No wise cracking, no smart dressers in fangs, no vamps who can fall in love etc. These were primal, vicious, from the depths of hell vampires.

fair enough. they were certainly monstrous; as were the ones in 28 Days Later and Stakeland. but, to me, it felt like the Salem's Lot vampire(s) were used sparingly. it makes the overall experience duller (on paper, Salem's Lot is the superior movie). I still consider it to be a horror classic, though.

Fright Night was really funny as well as being scary. It's a borderline parody in certain respects.

I'm the opposite. When it comes to movie monsters less is more. Show them too much and they lose impact.

We just have to wait to see what Skarsgård's performance is like. We don't even know what his voice will sound like.

With his long legs and clown shows, I picture in my mind him walking like a penguin; legs out, no bent knees, shoulders pulled back, wobbling from side to side as he walks lol. Who knows! I know everyone says Pennywise has to come across as friendly and inviting, etc....but wasn't that really just for Georgie in the beginning? I'll have to rewatch the movie and reread the book, but it was to my understanding the kids were terrified of him from the get go.

Time will tell! (Also I don't recall the leper being in the original movie, so I'm glad he's finally in this one)

there's truth to that. i guess what i appreciated about Fright Night was that the villain was present from the start of the movie but still disguised. like with Pennywise, sometimes it's scarier when evil isn't obvious/wears a disguise.

i just wonder how much of that was intentional or simply incidental (due to Amanda Bearse's odd acting style). "evil ed" reminded me a lot of Matthew Lillard from 'Scream'(another tongue in cheek horror movie). but judging by some of his other horror films, this was a standard performance from the actor. i don't know that they intended for it to be parody. but i could be wrong. Peter Vincent was clearly not be taken seriously when we first met him. the name's a dead giveaway.

At first when I saw it I was repelled by it, but on the second look I changed my mind, I think its a great design. If Im not mistaken, the look (the face, makeup, head) was designed by studio ADI, Im not a fan of their designs but this is great in my opinion. I have always been a giant fan of IT, read the book first, then saw the tv series, loved them both, so Im looking forward to this one like crazy

The outfit is kind of ridiculous, but it's effective. That clown is creepy.

This might be an ignorant post but...I'm surprised by how many people are put off by the design for being "to on the nose". I know he looks very sinister and doesn't seem to be inviting or approachable but, neither was Tim Curry's Pennywise. He had multiple forms. (At least, from what I've surmised.) And I think it makes sense for the studio to release a sinister looking version first.

With todays day-and-age, first impressions are pretty important. IT is synonymous with horror/being fairly creepy. I feel the look of Pennywise worked a lot like that back in the day. People heard it was creepy and scary and they had their preconceived notions of how horrible Pennywise was.

I feel the studio probably felt pressured into playing on that notion. There will probably be, just like in the TV series, multiple forms and looks to Pennywise. I haven't seen the Tim Curry series or read the book. I picked up the book a while ago and am looking forward to reading it. I got fairly early into it before putting it down for another book. If memory serves correctly...

Pennywise was eating the heart of a man, a victim to a group of homophobic's, who threw him off a bridge while the man was on a date with his partner. I believe the lover is the one who describes the scene of Pennywise pulling his partner out of the water before mauling the underside of his armpit and gaining access to the mans heart.

To me, that doesn't read like an inviting clown. haha Instead, that reads to me like a creature that disguises himself based on the perception of his victims. There will probably be a more toned down look to Pennywise so he can be inviting to children...I think, again, the studio is just playing into the reputation IT has proceeding it.
