Stephen King's "IT" remake has found a writer - Part 3

If 'IT' behaves like Paranormal Activity 3 (2nd biggest Horror Pre-View and the biggest Horror OW), 'IT' will collect around [13.5x(52.5/8)]=88.59 million.

But PA3 was the 3rd installment of a franchise with a dedicated fan-base. The found footage fad was strong and the strong pre-views further proved that. 'IT' being the first of it's kind as in the first movie of the 'IT' saga should be less front-loaded. So going by that logic 'IT' is definitely going above 90 million for the OW.

OTOH, 'IT' is clearly behaving like a blockbuster so Fifty Shades Darker is a reasonable comp for 'R' rated big openers outside of Summer and Holiday season.

If 'IT' follows Fifty Shades Darker, final OW becomes [13.5 X (46.6/5.72)]=110 million.

Nao take 5% of that 110 million and subtract it due to Hurricane Irma's effect on Sunday, we get [110X0.95]=104.5 million.

Nao the start of the NFL season will take some bite out of the OW. I have no idea about the extent of it on overall OW except for the Sunday dropping bigger than usual (around [45-50]%).

In any case, 100 million is within the realm of possibilities but it is also the best case scenario. I think a (90-95) million OW is very much on the cards atm. Damn, I'm so excited with this OW. This will be so much fun. :D :D

September was a great decision to open the movie. I remember thinking it could be during Halloween but that's when the Oscar bait and contenders usually start opening up.

The weekend after the Labor Day was already proving to be a very good spot for WB. Last year Sully opened to 35 million and went on to collect 125 million. Sully won September 2016 as well. WB knew they had a good spot on their hands after a barren wasteland of an August. Excellent decisions all around by WB.

'IT's OD is bigger than the 2nd biggest OW of September (Hotel Transylvania). 'IT' will also overtake HT2 by noon on Saturday and leave all kinds of previous records for September in it's wake. What a BO run in just 2 days. So awesome. :D :D

Just saw it. Much ado about nothing. It didn;t scare me in the least. It has a lot of great moments (particularly those moments of foreshadowing -- when you see Pennywise unexpectedly appear in the distance, for instance), but the payoff was weak.

I think modern horror movies are hamstrung by the R rating-- really doesn't allow the director to cut loose. Unfortunately I don't think we'll ever see a movie as scary as, say, the Exorcist, in the near future.

Just got back. Awesome film. It wasn't scary for me, but it had all the great Stranger Things vibe with the cast, which is a HUGE plus.

9/10

It's all subjective in the end. Such as the Exorcist is scary to you but for me, the Exorcist is not scary at all. Plus, it's quite hard to make a truly scary movie.

I have always heard stories from my parents when they saw The Exorcist back when it first came out. People getting sick from it and fainting. My aunt's hands were shaking so bad, she lit a cigarette and didn't realize she'd already lit a cigarette and was holding it in her other hand. :funny:

I also worked with someone who snuck off to see it with a friend. They were 11 at the time. She was grounded for a week when her parents found out. Her friend? Her parents washed her mouth out with soap when they found out she'd seen it.

I saw it in theaters when it was re-released in 2000...and, the audience laughed more at it than anything, since quite a bit of it is a little dated now (the doctor lighting up a smoke in the hallway got the biggest laugh).

My friend, who'd never seen it before, said it best afterwards: she didn't think it was scary, but it was really good. And it is. One of the best horror movies ever made.

But I think it will be hard to top how scary The Exorcist must have been at the time. That movie went a lot of places horror movies just hadn't gone yet.

I didn't think It was Exorcist-scary. But that's OK. The book wasn't either. I thought It was more roller-coaster ride scary, and that worked too.

This seems to me to be majorly missing the point of what IT is really about. Yes, it's a horror film based on a horror book, but that isn't really the ultimate point, King wasn't trying to write the scariest book ever written (though some parts are damn scary and certainly amongst his best horror work to date), he was ultimately writing a story about nostalgia, the power of friendship and the innocence of childhood. This film seems to actually get that which is why fans of the book are responding to it so well. It isn't about being a really scary film, it's about being a damn good film based on a damn good book.

Thought it was great and didn't disappoint. While I ultimately would still give the edge to the miniseries and Curry's Pennywise, sorry, I grew up with it, this is certainly a worthy interpretation of the source material with solid acting from the young stars.

Sophia Lills stole the show. I'd never seen her before, but she's got a good future ahead of her as an actress.

I'd prefer they kept the adult cast, somewhat lower level or unknown character actors. I would hate to see someone like Chris Pratt in the sequel.

My thoughts too. I don't want to see Jennifer Lawrence cast for instance which would likely be the studios instinct for a sequel.

Much like the mini series they should get solid character actors who may not have the big names but can embody the adult versions of the losers club.

Bingo. At the end of the day King is a great storyteller who understands character. People often say he's a master of terror, but he's really the master of character. So damn good.

I really felt this outclassed the mini-series in every way possible. I never read the book but grew up with the mini-series, but I felt this just was better. Curry was amazing, but his Pennywise I found was ultimately funny and hilarious to watch, while this one was just scarier and served the story very well

I'm the same as you. I never read the book, but I grew up with the mini series. And I was never a fan of the mini series at all. Don't care for it. I haven't seen this film yet, tomorrow afternoon finally. But it's looking like it's going to be better than the miniseries entirely. I am very excited.

Agreed. To all those who have never read the book, please do yourself a favour and read it. It may be a doorstop but once you get into it, it's damn hard to put down. It's scary, epic, funny and genuinely moving with a sense of nostalgia and timelessness that anyone can appreciate. Genuinely one of my favourite books of all time and arguably King's magnum opus, along with The Dark Tower series.

Yet it seems Jennifer Lawrence does get cast a lot for roles which would normally be for an older actress i.e. American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook.

I hope for Chapter Two the actors and actress are the right ages for the characters.

Solid flick, nice to have some good monster horror back.

I could not believe how crowded it was, every single showtime at my theatre was sold out for the day.

Imo the adult cast of the miniseries was extremely miscast. I like the actress who played Beverly, but all the men were just unlikeable.

This first movie was amazing, the kids were 10/10. We always knew this tbh, the adult portion is the real test by fire.

And thats why i'm not gonna see it for a week or two, f that lol.

But one of them was Jack Tripper...

Just got back from It I thought it was solid. The kids for the most part were good with the kid from Stranger Things standing out the most. A lot of the and effects however took me out of the film. Overall I give the movie a 7.5/10

Funny thing is I actually have the book. Just never got around to reading it.

Just come back from it. For me, sheer brilliance, 10/10 and then some. Small moments of story, keeping close to the book in many places, dripping with atmosphere, for those old enough to grow up in the 80's, nods you'll recognise, scary, moving, just amazing. Loved it. Bring on Part II. The acting across the board was first class.
