Stephen King's "IT" remake has found a writer - Part 3

Millenials that aren't hipsters have small reference pools for entertainment these days. :o

I don't understand the few critics negating the movie because of it's 'rehased' "Stand by Me" and "Goonies" coming of age storylines...

Uhhhh, so Hollywood can vomit out watered-down remake after remake and crappy blockbusters on an almost weekly basis, but a teen coming of age film rarely seen this decade is not ok? Lol

I don't get how a 3 out of 5 is a rotten review. Wouldn't 2 or 1 be rotten? How does it work? Pretty much why RT is ********.

If I give a film a 3 out of 5 that means I at least liked it.

It's the reviewer who tells RT whether or not it should be posted as fresh or rotten, regardless of what they score it.

How do you reinvent the wheel for a genre?

I dunno. Maybe the critics are focusing on the tried and tested aspects of the horror element in the movie when they were expecting something unique. That 'IT' plays around with familiar horror monster tropes and stuff and does not try anything new. I haven't seen the movie so I wouldn't know anything about it bruh. I'm just saying this is an issue (if you want to call it that) that some critics are pointing out and even then they do acknowledge that those 'Been there and done that' stuff are well executed.

I've already prepared myself for comments from the unknowing like "IT is a Stranger Things ripoff". I know it's a stretch, but believe me you'll hear it.

That's right up there with people griping that this is a "remake" of the Tim Curry version, not caring that this originated as a far superior book.

“It,” the hotly anticipated adaptation of Stephen King’s doorstop of a novel, is shaping up to be a box office monster. The horror film is expected to make $60 million when it debuts on Friday. “It” has shattered records to become the top horror film pre-seller in history, surprising 2011’s “Paranormal Activity 3.” It also took the crown as Fandango’s top pre-seller among September releases, eclipsing 2016’s “Sully.”

Part of the film’s appeal stems from the fact that it isn’t a sequel or a followup, something that may have derailed ticket sales in the summer as audiences tired of followups and reboots. Fandango surveyed more than 1,000 ticket buyers. Ninety six percent said they bought tickets to “It” because they have been looking forward to the fall’s fresher movie fare, 89% were intrigued by “It”’s trailer, 91% are fans of Stephen King, 85% are excited to see “Stranger Things” star Wolfhard in his big-screen debut.

It’s not just King’s involvement that’s stoking interest. Seventy three percent of respondents said they saw the 1990 TV mini-series with Tim Curry as Pennywise. The film is also reaching out beyond a core group of gore-fest diehards. Just over half of ticket buyers, some 57% of those polled, identify themselves as true horror fans.

Scott Mendelson absolutely hated 'IT'. He mentioned the movie as inferior to the TV show and called the movie a 'cliff notes' version of the TV series.

A cliff notes version of the tv miniseries that was based on a novel.

He also hated Spider-Man Homecoming. Dude seems like one of those Armand White style contrarians.

So if I rated something 4 out of 5 I could still label it rotten?

Shouldn't they reflect that in there score? Maybe it should be an automatic thing so that the rating out of 5 determines whether it's fresh or rotten.

Shouldn't we wait to see the movie ourselves before pointing fingers at critics who have seen it.

He does like going against the grain. Scott hates most of the big budget blockbuster type movies with a few notable exceptions. Can't lie tho, I like him.

Well I'm seeing it now definitely.

Yep. One of the worst aspects of the RT culture is that whenever a movie is hyped like this, fans tend to make a public enemy out of the critics don't like it and mess up the score...even though they still haven't seen the film yet for themselves.

It's one of the reasons why RT took down their comments section, after some idiots decided to send rape threats to a critic who had the nerve to dislike TDKR.

Overall, It's getting some pretty great reviews so far. Nobody should get mad when it gets a few rotten ones. No movie is perfect and not everyone is going to like it. Since most of us haven't seen it yet, it's not for us to judge who's wrong or right.

Scott Mendelson isn't an Armond White. He's just a tough critic. Sometimes I agree with him, sometimes I don't. But he's fair, even if I don't agree.

I'm reading The Stand right now. I'm hoping the success of this movie will pave the way for that book to finally get its proper cinematic dues. If it's handled with the kind of care that this film seems to have gotten, it would be a true epic.

I read all kinds of reviews and I value everyone's opinion even if it doesn't align with mine. I don't like the RT score culture (binary confirmation without any insight) but individual reviews are a fascinating read to me.

Also, there is no need to antagonize Scott or any critic who wouldn't like this movie. They have a different opinion and that's all.

Now who else is dreading studio interference with Chapter 2.

To be honest, I'm more worried about Gary Dauberman possibly writing the screenplay by himself. I'd like to see an additional writer on this.
