At least I had fun at Rider. It was cheesy for sure, but it was harmless.
As opposed to X3, which is responsible for AIDS and starvation in Africa...

t:At the end of the day, I'm only concerned about how things affect me.
It's funny how people expect a tent pole movie geared for the general public to bow to fit their own narrow expectations. I'm sure Fox is ashamed of X3's460 million dollar box office and massive DVD sales now that Paste Pot Pete is disgruntled. Have they issued a press release stating their formal apology yet?
I still find it entertaining to visit this board and skim over the still rampant and futile whining of some disgruntled fanboys. It's pathetic but it's still damn funny.

I'm sure Fox is happy about that X3 has the worst domestic profit percentage of the three films. I'm sure Fox was happy that X3 was added to Boxofficemojo's list of films with the biggest second weekend dropoff. I'm sure Fox was happy that X3 won the award for most disappointing movie of the year award. I'm also, sure Fox was very happy with Ratner's directing abilities despite not considering him to direct an X4 film while considering Singer for X4 and Wolverine.
Actually, Fox is quite happy how X3 performed at the box office. You see, they don't stop counting the money with the domestic box office. The worldwide box office, in the words of Borat, was verrry nice.
In fact, Fox was very happy in the first quarter of 2007 with how X3 performed. The whopping DVD sales for both X3 and Ice Age 2 picked up the slack from their lackluster fall TV schedule. Read that in a report recently. (fyi, the fiscal year starts on 10/1...X3 was released 10/3)
Then there's the TV revenue. The movie is already available on pay-per-view, and should be hitting cable soon. If it's anything like X1 and X2, it will get a good TV run. Hell, Fox has 2 tv stations to show it on as much as they want.
Even though ticket sales improved in 2006, studios are profiting less on a whole because their movies are getting more and more expensive to make.
Also keep in mind that Fox doesn't live on X-Men alone (although they'd probably treat it better if they did)...they also had highly profitable movies like The Devil Wears Prada, Night at the Museum, Borat, and Little Miss Sunshine last year.
There's no denying that it's probably the least popular of the 3 movies, but Fox isn't exactly crying over anything right now.

It's doubtful that Fox will ever publicly admit they're disappointed with X3's overall performance. Their pursuit of Singer for X4 and Wolverine instead of Ratner is as close to an admission they made a mistake they'll ever get.
And why would they admit anything like that? Technically it is the highest grossing X-Men film, it's pushed the entire trilogy over $1 billion worldwide. They can spin it any way they want with numbers like that.

Not this position again. Not this position again.
Yes, X3 was the highest grossing, yet it still managed to have the smallest profit and that's all the bean counters care about.
X1 had a budget of 75 million and the domestic box office was 156.
X2 had a budget of 110 million and the domestic box office was 210.
X3 had a budget of 210 million and the domestic box office was 235.
Do the math.
If you had a time machine and could go back and invest in any one of the three films, which one would you choose?
I'm amazed that after all this time, Theweepeople still doesn't get it.
The X3 box office was in line with expectations. Fox knew the budget was huge but with the information available to them they thought it was worth proceeding. However, it was probably a major factor in their decision to make this "the last stand" and to continue the franchise via cheaper spinoffs. This was announced as early as the ShoWest presentation and was not a response to X3's box office performance.
The information made available to us is only a small part of the financial information available to the studio. Their decision-makers have access to projections for all income streams. Of all the 2006 releases, the X3 performance probably had the fewest surprises.
). Then what will Fox do? They can't correct all the problems with the X3 storyline in any X-Men sequels without some more cheesy writing. My prediction is that Marvel either gets the rights back in 2012 due to Wolverine underperfoming and Fox not knowing what to do or Fox reboots the franchise right before they loose the rights around 2012.
