Iron Man 3 Stop.... HAMMER TIME.... Iron Patriot thread

Let's suppose you're right for a second, and that really is JBD instead of a stunt double. So how would you feel about Eric Savin/Coldblood being IP? Does that make it any more/less canonical than WM in stars 'n' spangles?

Any way you slice it, there's no way in hell Norman Osborn is going to magically appear in IM3, and we all know it. No matter what cosmetic resemblance there may be, that is *not* Iron Patriot in any way, shape or form.

Who said he was. I already said it was a change. Coldblood isn't even an IM villain. I just find it very interesting that the "it's War Machine" stuff came out so quickly and there's holes in it all over the place.

The point is the story is BS.

If you're right, and we're back to Square One, with Savin in red white 'n' blue armor, then it comes back to my original theory, that the US are putting together an armor brigade (and we're talking battlesuits, not tanks). In any event, the one part of the rumor I *do* believe is that IP/Savin (for lack of a better descriptor so far) was being filmed to fly escort on the Veep's flight to China; and that somewhere over the ocean, the plane gets taken down. (I question the idea that it's the VP instead of the Prez, though: who gives a rat's ass about the VP??? If you're going to write an international incident/potential act of war into the script, go whole-hog and make it Air Force One, not Air Force Two.)

Prior to the release of IM2 they made Anton Vanko (no relation to Crimson Dynamo) as the new whiplash, but no doubt it was a tie in to the movie, although it takes place in 616 Marvel.

Needless to say this is different because it would be turning a known bad guy in the comics into a good guy. I won't say they wouldn't do that, however I find the LR article highly suspect.

No, it wouldn't. If it's just the War Machine armour with a patriotic paint scheme similar to Iron Patriot's, then it's still just War Machine. It's only a nod to IP at best at that point and has nothing to do with the character, so your analogy is way off base.

Though playing devil's advocate for a second (and because I'd love the possibility of a bona fide Iron Patriot in the MCU). If we were to get a Coldblood/Iron Patriot mash up then I'd like to see Norman Osborn eventually take up the IP armour and be the antagonist in a Civil War movie (instead of Iron Man like it was in the comics).

I can get my head around Marvel and Sony wanting to do things like have Oscorp tower in Avengers or even share characters down the line, but I seriously doubt they'd skip Norman being the Green Goblin as well as have him debut in an Iron Man movie.

How is it off base? the whole point of IP in the comics was Osborn manipulating the public by taking two iconic persons (Iron Man and Cap) and combining them into a person made for him. He was taking super villains and turning them into known Avengers and not telling the public about it. The whole book was about public manipulation and propaganda to make the public "feel" safe.

How is it off base?

Because if you're meaning that if War Machine with a new paint job is "turning a known bad guy in the comics into a good guy", then it's nothing of the sort. It's still just War Machine, even if his armour is reminiscent of another character. It doesn't make it a mash up of War Machine and Iron Patriot if it's just a paint job. Therefore your analogy doesn't apply because it's not Iron Patriot if that's the case.

This may change some minds. I can't determine if this is official but it was posted by MCU on facebook.

OK, I think I've confirmed that the above photo is fake. It's different than the armor that JBD is wearing if you look (the star is not that big). What I believe it is, is the Mark VII armor photoshopped with the color scheme that JBD is using. Not a bad knock off.

However I still hold that the LR article is misinformation, because that is definitely JBD wearing the armor.

The armor looks cool. But I really don't like them using the armor & possibly the name if ol' Normy's not going to be wearing it.

Latino Review is generally unreliable and they've been wrong a lot lately.

Regardless of who is in the suit, the armor is obviously meant to be similar and evocative of the Iron Patriot armor. It is essentially the Iron Patriot armor. So even if it's War Machine/Rhodey its now Rhodey/War Machine becoming Iron Patriot.

What is the story behind the patriot armor? Why does it exist/why's it in this movie?

The Iron Patriot rumor rises from the grave:

http://comicbook.com/blog/2012/09/01/source-indicates-iron-patriot-really-is-in-iron-man-3/

Awhile back, a source close to production told us that Iron Patriot is part of Iron Man 3. Furthermore, the source told us that from what they observed it was not Don Cheadle wearing the Iron Patriot armor.

Just hitting the USPTO.gov trademark database are a couple of new trademark applications by Marvel Characters Inc. The trademark applications are for Iron Patriot and Avengers Initiative on a variety of goods and services beyond just comic books.
While the new Avengers Initiative trademarks make sense given the success of the movie and Marvel’s increased expansion into online games, Iron Patriot would seem like an unusual character for Marvel to focus on protecting through multiple trademark applications. The six different Iron Patriot trademark applications cover a wide range of goods and services, everything from action figures to online services to Christmas tree ornaments.
Now, it’s not unusual for Marvel to protect their trademarks on a wide variety of goods for their major characters, but Iron Patriot is not a major character, at least not yet. For Marvel to want to pay the expensive trademark fees for all these good and services, they must be planning to put out a lot of new Iron Patriot merchandise, which is a good indication he’s going to be popping up in an upcoming summer blockbuster movie.
Now, it’s very likely that it’s not the same Iron Patriot from the comic books, but it appears as if at least the Iron Patriot name will be used in Iron Man 3. Whether it’s a new look and name for Don Cheadle’s War Machine or a brand new character is unknown.

I don't know how it got in the grave in the first place. The idea that War Machine would just happen to be painted like a very popular IronMan-related comic book villain, and that the stuntman inside the suit would just happen to look just like the actor playing one of the villains... that never seemed credible to me.

And that's something anyone can do. It doesn't require that Norman Osborn be the guy to make this move. And since Iron Man has proven that they fuse villains and change villains as needed... there's little preventing Eric Savin from being HAMMER Norman Osborn in every way that Whiplash was Crimson Dynamo. And plenty motivation to do so as Iron Patriot is a great story for a post-Avengers Iron Man, and Norman Osborn is not available, but Iron Patriot (who is not a Spider-Man villain) would be available.
