Slender Man-Obsessed Teen Sets Home on Fire as Family Sleeps Inside

Lily Marie Hartwell, 14, of Port Richey, Fla. reportedly admitted to police that she set her family's home on fire early Thursday morning by soaking a blanket and towel with rum and bleach and then lighting them in her garage, knowing her mother and nine-year-old brother were asleep inside. Her family managed to escape the fire and when Hartwell was found later, she allegedly told police she frequents Slender Man sites Creepy Pasta and Soul Eater.

"Mom Im so sorry I dont know why I did it," Hartwell apparently texted her mother later, WTSP reports. The teen was found several hours after firefighters and police arrived at her home. After setting her home ablaze, according to the Tampa Bay Times, she apparently walked to a nearby park, toting a bag packed with "clothes, bottled water, cookies, knives, lighters and flashlights," and went to sleep in a public bathroom.

According to WTSP, Hartwell told police she started the fire after reading Soul Eater, "which made her upset about past bullying and her mother disciplining her prior to bedtime." Her journal found by police apparently contains passages "that included thoughts of 'killing'" and one that reads, "If this keeps up there will be no one safe in this house" and "Mom if you ever find this before it happens Im sorry..."

Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco told reporters Thursday that he does not believe the Slender Man sites directly influenced the teen to set her own house on fire. According to Suncoast News, she has been charged by police with one count of arson and two counts of attempted murder.

20-Year-Old Driver Was On Facebook When She Killed a Great-Grandmother

Police say a 20-year-old driver struck and killed an 89-year-old woman because she was too busy looking through Facebook pictures on her phone to pay attention to the road.

Abby E. Sletten was charged with negligent homicide this week after a crash that killed 89-year-old Phyllis Gordon. According to reports, Sletten was driving around 85 miles an hour when she slammed into a car that had slowed to make an unauthorized U-turn. Gordon, who was sitting in the passenger seat, died at the scene.

Other motorists reported Sletten's brake lights never flashed.

According to the Star Tribune:

A search of Sletten's cellphone by police "determined that [she] was viewing pictures on her Facebook application … at the time of the crash," the criminal complaint read. "Sletten had also sent and received several text messages since she departed from Fargo."

She reportedly told police officers she couldn't remember the accident.

Teacher Admits He Sent Dick Pic Snapchats to Underage Students

Snapchat: cool among teens, even cooler among high school teachers trying to send underage girls pictures of their dick without getting caught. According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Stoughton High School teacher and assistant football coach Brandon Amato, 24, admitted yesterday to sending explicit Snapchats to one 16-year-old student and one 17-year-old student.

Amato has been charged with two felony counts of exposing genitals to a child, and if convicted, he could spend up to seven years in jail. The Journal reports:

The [16-year-old] girl told police she was Facebook friends with Amato and said he began to send messages to her on June 29, asking if she was still awake and wanted to sneak out and meet up with him. She said no, but he continued to send messages, and eventually sent her his Snapchat username.

She added him as a Snapchat friend, and a short time later he sent a clothed picture of himself, and she reciprocated. Then he sent a picture that appeared to show him with his hands down his boxer shorts, and then another of his exposed penis.

Same deal with the 17-year-old. Stoughton administrators note that Amato technically was not employed by the school when he sent the Snaps, since his contract ended June 10.

According to police, Amato "initially said he had only sent pictures to people who were 18 or older, but ultimately admitted knowing that the girls were not adults."

Two Jerks Spray Oklahoma Walmart Merchandise With Deer Piss

Jon Ohlman, 24, and Cody Hudson, 18, for no apparent reason other than they were bored and are dumb, allegedly ruined about $2,500 worth of merchandise at a Owasso, Okla. Walmart store after spraying toys, fabrics, and shoes with doe urine. "It's weird. It's very weird and disgusting," shopper Cali Emberson told Fox23.

Witnesses at the store originally told police they saw up to six people spraying merchandise with doe piss before fleeing, but after officers found the two in a car in the parking lot of a shopping center across the street from the Walmart, they reportedly confessed they were the only culprits.

According to Fox21, the two are being held on $5,000 bond. "It's just kind of shameful. I mean, these kids need to grow up," Brian Goodin, another shopper, told Fox23.

Drew Carey Puts $10,000 Bounty on Evil Ice Bucket Pranksters' Head

A cruel practical joke made headlines this week when an autistic Cleveland teenager, believing he was participating in the ALS ice bucket challenge, instead had a mixture of urine, feces, spit, and cigarette butts dumped on his head. Now, comedian and amateur law enforcement agent Drew Carey is looking for answers.

Carey—also a Cleveland native—offered on Saturday to contribute $10,000 to a reward fund run by the Bay Village police. The local force has reportedly been investigating the cruel prank since the boy's parents alerted them to the video last week.

Police said Friday that they are working with the local high school, "analyzing the device used to record the video, interviewing witnesses, determining exactly where and when this occurred and identifying those involved."

They believe the video was made in a student's home "prior to the start of the school year."

Carey also pledged on Twitter that he will donate the money to Autism Speaks if the police turn down his offer.

Mother Sentenced to Prison for Helping Daughter Get Illegal Abortion

Reuters reports a Pennsylvania woman has been sentenced to prison for helping her her teenage daughter end her pregnancy with pills she obtained online.

Jennifer Ann Whalen pleaded guilty in August to buying the pills from a European site for her 16-year-old daughter. She reportedly told authorities she wasn't located near a clinic that could perform the abortion, and that she—a single mom, working as a nursing home aide—didn't have health insurance to cover a stay in the hospital.

After taking the pills, her daughter ended up in the hospital with severe cramping and bleeding.

Reuters reports she was sentenced on Friday to serve 12 to 18 months in prison, fined $1,000, and ordered to perform 40 hours of community service after her release for violating a Pennsylvania law requiring abortions to be performed by physicians.

Drunk Mom Made Child Drive Car

A Vermont woman and candidate for mother of the year was discovered by cops in Brattleboro parked in the middle of the road with her child in the driver's seat of the car. Cops arrested her for being drunk and also endangering her child.

Jessica Mathiau, 42, was parked in the middle of the road on Saturday at 6pm when troopers found her and her son. While interrogating her, police learned that her son had been driving her home because she was "very drunk." Troopers who arrested Mathiau say that she had "pulled the emergency break multiple times in the middle of traffic."

Mathiau was arrested for child endangerment. Oh, really?

Teacher Allegedly Locked Kids in Closet to Teach Them "How to Survive"

A day-care center in Brooklyn is being sued after security-video footage was found showing two employees placing toddlers in a small supply closet alone for minutes at a time.

The NY Post reports Tatiana Ilyaich, owner of the day-care center Pinocchio Children's Palace, allegedly discovered teacher Shandra Fallen, 25, and her assistant, Amellia Samuda, 34, forcing kids into the closet in June, when she heard sobs coming from Fallen's classroom. When she entered the room, she says she noticed the sobs were coming from the supply closet:

She opened the door and saw a scared young boy inside.

The teachers "started laughing," Ilyaich recalled.

"It's kind of a game we're playing with the kids," Fallen said, according to Ilyaich.

After walking in on the disturbing scene, Ilyaich says she searched through security camera footage for similar incidents. The NY Post viewed the footage Ilyaich's found, taken on May 14:

...Fallen can be seen putting one small child into the closet, which is packed with supply-stuffed shelving, and leaving him there alone for three minutes before releasing him.

She then picks out 2-year-old Mahli Mathias and guides him to the same closet before shutting him in. Seven minutes later, Fallen returns and opens the door. She steps into the closet and out of view. After about a minute, Fallen steps out and shuts the door behind her, leaving the boy inside.

Another toddler walks over and pounds on the outside of the closed door, but neither adult pays any attention.

Samuda then goes into the closet, shutting herself inside with the boy for another minute before exiting alone. Mahli is finally allowed out — 10 minutes after he was first imprisoned.

Ilyaich told the Post that she reported the abuse to authorities, alerted parents, and fired the two teachers after seeing the footage. The Administration for Children's Services and the Health Department said they investigated, however the NYPD and the Brooklyn DA's office reportedly told the Post they had no record of the case.

A Labor official reportedly told Ilyaich that Fallen told the state Labor Department, when she applied for unemployment in June, that she didn't remember the details of that day, but that it "was kind of a game, that they were teaching [the kids] how to survive if they are by themselves." Oh, fun game!

2-year-old Mahli Mathias's mom is now reportedly suing the day-care center, Fallen, and Samuda in Brooklyn Supreme Court for unspecified damages, accusing them of negligence.

According to the NY Post, Fallen's lawyer had not seen the lawsuit but told them, "We deny any wrongdoing."

Nine-Year-Old in Pajamas Steals City Bus Just Because He Could

A 9-year-old boy in Saskatoon, a city in central Saskatchewan, Canada, took an empty city bus on a joy ride Saturday after finding the vehicle idling on the street. The ride went perfectly, just kidding.

CNN reports that Police spokesman Sgt. Ryan Smith said the boy, dressed in pajamas, managed to drive three blocks through a residential area, making two right turns in the process. He also notes that the boy had to drive standing up, because his tiny little bus thief legs weren't long enough to reach the pedals. From CNN:

Steve Pasqualotto, a reporter for CNN partner CBC, said said he was driving down Idywyld Drive, a busy thoroughfare, when "my wife looked out her window and saw a city bus and said, 'There's a boy driving that bus.' "

There is a boy driving that bus! Saskatoon resident Michael Pritchard also spotted the little maniac, telling CBC, "I saw this little head in the driver's seat and I said, 'What?'"

According to Smith, the boy only stopped when he ran into another city bus and a pickup truck, totaling the truck.

No one was injured in the accident, and the boy reportedly won't be charged with anything because he's too young to be arrested under Saskatoon law.

Why did he do it? Police spokesman Sgt. Smith has an idea: "He had an opportunity to take it, and he did."

Woman Arrested for *********ing Atop Motorcycle in Front of Neighbors

Karen Marie Dilworth was arrested by police at her Ormond Beach, Fla. home after neighbors allegedly saw her sitting atop her motorcycle in her garage, *********ing. Amongst the audience was a neighbor's 13-year-old son.

According to the police report obtained by the Daytona Beach News-Journal, neighbors arrived home to find Dilworth, 50, allegedly *********ing in her garage. The 13-year-old's mother apparently yelled to another neighbor about the sight before them and that neighbor shouted to Dilworth to close her garage door.

Their protests apparently met with no response, neighbors called police, who charged Dilworth with lewd/lascivious exhibition by a person over 18 on a person under 16. She was released from Volusia County Branch Jail on $1,000 bail and reportedly declined comment to the News-Journal.

Man Stabs Co-Worker Over a Stolen Meatball

A dispute over a stolen meatball turned into a workplace stabbing this week, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Police say the unnamed Fallston, MD office—which probably requested anonymity due to shame over its lax refrigerator policies—turned into a crime scene when a 36-year-old man who should have known better allegedly stole a meatball out of his colleague's lunch.

But the man's hungry 31-year-old victim quickly became the aggressor, allegedly stabbing his good-for-nothing, lunch-stealing co-worker in the arm. Who's the meatball now, he maybe shouted as he fled the scene.

It's not clear whether he was apprehended, or what became of the remaining meatballs, but police say the stabbing victim has recovered from his injuries and charges are pending.
