Iron Men, Elmo, and Spider-Man Arrested in Times Square

The NYPD continues its crackdown on Times Square's fake superheroes and cartoons, arresting two Iron Men, an Elmo, and a Spider-Man over the weekend on disorderly conduct charges. Police were handing out fliers Saturday informing tourists, "Photos with costumed characters are free. Tipping is optional."

According to the New York Post, Spider-Man impersonator William Suarez, 32, was also charged by police with aggressive panhandling, allegedly grabbing someone to pose for a photo. One Iron Man—Javier Hernandez, 37—and Elmo—Jose Maria, 25—are being held until their arraignment. The other Iron Man, Khalid Lahmadi, 40, was released on a summons.

Saturday's crackdown was dubbed "Operation Character Flaw" by the NYPD, the Wall Street Journal reports. The increasing number of incidents involving the Times Square costumed characters have led to calls for regulation.

Less harmful does not equate to harmless. It's like saying getting stabbed is less dangerous than getting shot. While technically true you're still getting hurt.

I assume youre worried about second hand vapor. You really neednt worry. The e-liquid has 3-4 ingredients: nicotine, natural and artificial flavoring, and a dilutent such as Propylene Glycol or vegetable glycol. These ingredients have been around a long time and the dilutents are used by pharmacueticals. Nicotine itself is no more harmful than caffeine. Its a stimulant and it in itself doesnt cause cancer. Its the chemicals on tobacco and in the paper of cigarettes that causes cancer and that stuff is absent from e-cigs. Also vapor doesnt linger or cling like smoke does. Your lungs are safe from second hand vapor. Besides all the ingredients have been around so long and used in so many applications that we know their effects. The notion that e-liquid is some new unknown thing is honestly a fallacy.

Dear *****ebag Bike Thief, You Messed With the Wrong Cyclist

If a bike thief didn't know he'd slipped up when he snatched Aaron Rush's new mountain bike, he's certainly aware of it now. Rush posted a "Dear *****ebag Bike Thief" letter all over the racks where the theft occurred, and it's since spread across Twitter and a number of U.K. news sites.

In the letter, Rush warned the d-bag that not only was his face caught on CCTV at a Hertfordshire, England train station, but Rush—a victim of previous bike thefts—had equipped his ride with a GPS unit.

"Unfortunately for you, I know where you live," Rush wrote, offering not to involve the cops if his bike is returned by the end of the week.

Rush, a "poor student with no money, but a working printer," told the Daily Mail his tracker showed the bike was still in Kings Langley, where it was taken. The tracer seems to have been disabled since then, but there's still the last known address and that CCTV footage hanging over the thief's head.

Rush initially tweeted he thought his insurance would cover the bike, but he told the Mail he's now found it won't, so he's left either turning matters over to the police or hoping the thief's *****e heart grows enough sizes to give the bike back.

Justin Bieber Makes Plea Deal to Avoid DUI Charge

Justin Bieber is expected to plead guilty to careless driving and resisting an officer without violence charges today in exchange for the state of Florida dropping a DUI charge. He was arrested by police in Miami earlier this year for allegedly drag racing and driving under the influence.

Sources told the Miami Herald that Bieber will also be required to attend 12 hours of private anger-management courses and "view online videos that depict the stories of real-life, tragic DUI cases." He'll also make a $50,000 charitable donation.

Following his arrest by police in January, Bieber admitted to having smoked marijuana and taken Xanax before getting behind the wheel of his yellow Lamborghini. From the Herald:

But the evidence against him was never overwhelming—in police surveillance videos, he did not appear staggeringly intoxicated, and his blood-alcohol level was well below the legal limit.

Bieber's friend, Khalil Sharieff, who was riding in the passenger seat and was also arrested by police, is expected to make a similar plea deal, the Herald reports.

Trolls Drive Robin Williams' Grieving Daughter Off Twitter, Instagram

Hours after posting heartbreaking tribute to her father, Robin Williams' daughter Zelda announced that she was deleting Twitter and Instragram because of "cruel and unnecessary" comments left by internet trolls.

Tuesday night, Zelda posted and then deleted the following tweet: "Please report @PimpStory @MrGoosebuster. I'm shaking. I can't. Please. Twitter requires a link and I won't open it. Don't either. Please." Both accounts were eventually suspended.

Not long after, she decided to delete Instagram and Twitter from all of her mobile devices.

Williams elaborated on her Instagram account:

I will be leaving this account for a but while I heal and decide if I'll be deleting it or not. In this difficult time, please try to be respectful of the accounts of myself, my family and my friends. Mining our accounts for photos of dad, or judging me on the number of them is cruel and unnecessary. There are a couple throughout, but the real private moments I shared with him were precious, quiet, and believe it or not, not full of photos or 'selfies'. I shared him with a world where everyone was taking their photo with him, but I was lucky enough to spend time with him without cameras too. That was more than enough, and I'm grateful for what little time I had. My favorite photos of family are framed in my house, not posted on social media, and they 'll remain there. Woman Caught Filming Porn in Church After Viewer Recognizes Her Boobs

A woman who filmed at least two sexually explicit videos inside a Catholic church in Hoersching, Austria, was apprehended by police after one porn viewer recognized the church and a second recognized her breasts.

One of the videos in question shows the woman—who performs under the name Babsi—"opening her top and caressing her breasts" while holding a Bible and a rosary, without ever showing her face, the Austrian Times reports. A churchgoer who saw the video recognized the interior of the building, then notified a priest, and after a clip was played on local news, a second viewer—apparently a big fan—identified Babsi's boobs and notified the authorities.

Babsi, 24, was arrested for offending religious feeling and desecration of a church, and confessed. Local Catholics debated whether the church needed to be reconsecrated, the Times reports, but ultimately decided not to, "as the woman's sins had not been enough to drive out God."

For any especially pious, concerned attendees, the local diocese issued a statement of reassurance. Despite the woman's unholy performance, it wrote, "The sacraments which were celebrated in the past few weeks in the parish church are still considered valid."

West Virginia Doctor Allegedly Made An Employee Motorboat Her Breasts

A West Virginia doctor is being accused of unethically prescribing controlled substances and forcing an employee to motorboat her breasts at work, according to claims outlined in 31-page report by the West Virginia Board of Medicine.

Forty-four-year-old Dr. Tressie Montene Duffy, the CEO of West Virginia Weight and Wellness Inc., allegedly lifted her shirt after her breast augmentation surgery and exposed herself to the staff. The clinic specializes in weight management, according to its website.

Duffy also, according to the report, made one of her female employees, identified only as Complainant R, "motorboat" her breasts in 2012. The same employee accused Duffy of later forcefully kissing her on the lips. When the employee asked her to stop, Duffy allegedly told her she was being a "titty baby." That employee later quit.

In addition to being accused of unprofessional work behavior, Duffy also "ordered medication for 'office use' and utilized these medications for her own personal use." She's also being investigated for signing blank prescription pads and allowing non-physician staff to prescribe controlled substances like Oxycodone and Xanax to patients when she was away from the office.

The Charleston Daily Mail reported:

Lisa Lilly, Duffy's attorney, said Duffy was familiar with the complaint and "denies any and all wrongdoing." Lilly stressed this is "not the first time" the board has tried to revoke Duffy's license, but declined to elaborate further.

The West Virginia Board of Medicine will hold a three-day hearing beginning Nov. 17 to determine if Duffy is qualified to practice medicine and what, if any, disciplinary action will be taken.

"Ninja" Volunteer Firefighter Started Fires in Vacant Homes

A teenage volunteer firefighter in the Philadelphia suburbs has been arrested on charges that he and another teen set fire to vacant homes so that his fire department would be called to extinguish the blazes. A crime so dumb only a Philly boy could think it up.

The teen, 19-year-old John P. Corcoran IV, had allegedly been riding around with another area 17-year-old. Once they'd spotted vacant houses, police said they'd go in and set them on fire.

According to court records, on July 20 at 11 p.m., Corcoran and the youth were driving when they decided to set fire to a vacant house on Delmar Drive in Folcroft.

"I won't get caught, I'm Ninja," the Tinicum teen told Corcoran, according to the court documents. The teen then started a fire in the home's bathroom.

Corcoran responded with his fire department to put out two of three fires he started, raising suspicions among the team. According to the Philly.com report, the teen is being charged with "arson, reckless burning or exploding, criminal mischief, corruption of minors, reckless endangering another person, and related crimes."

He did get caught, despite being Ninja. Corcoran is being held in county jail.

Sovereign Citizen Declares Nation of Dougiestan After Police Standoff

In North Dallas, Texas, police are investigating Douglas Leguin, a man they say attempted to commandeer a house, then fired an assault rifle at firefighters who responded to a nearby dumpster fire. Leguin allegedly attempted to ambush police who responded, then called 911 and declared his secession from the U.S.

From NBC's transcript of the call:

"I'm Dougie Doug and I just seceded from the nation," the caller said. "I've seceded from the nation. This is now Dougiestan right here."

"I'm pissed off at America. America is broke. It's got a sorry government and the people won't vote," the caller continued.

Dougie Doug also admonished the 911 operator for "shooting the mentally handicapped," the Dallas Morning News reports. When asked if he had been diagnosed with a condition, he said he had "a clear mind and a full heart."

Leguin's wife called 911 before the shootout, alarmed that her husband was missing, along with an AK-47 and several tanks of propane. When police apprehended Leguin, he allegedly had several explosive devices, several of which had already detonated, according to the Morning News.

The sovereign citizen was arrested at the scene Monday, and remains incarcerated, but yesterday, the flag flying above his home in Corinth was turned mysteriously upside-down. The Dallas Police are now "looking at Mr. Leguin for his anti-government views," ABC reports.

"Curiosity" Drove Guy to Steal 550 Lbs. of TNT from Forest Service

We've all had moments of insatiable curiosity about one dangerous or at least highly-unadvisable thing or another in our lifetimes, mostly in our childhood.

It's that intense curiosity that comes from things like wondering what would happen if you, say, light a bit of cap-gun tape on fire in your desk at school in fourth grade. Or float a lit cherry bomb on a little raft in a bucket of gasoline. Or explode a 20 pound ball of Black Cat firecrackers all at once. Or urinate on an electric fence…

These things are usually followed, of course, by richly-deserved feelings of shame and stupidity.

Budd James Nesius, 33, told a U.S. District Court judge this week that it was that sort of compulsive curiosity that drove him to steal 550 pounds of explosives from a U.S. Forest Service bunker near Red Lodge, Montana.

"I guess curiosity got the best of me, and I took it way too far," Nesius told Judge Susan Watters in court on Thursday, the Casper Star-Tribune reports.

Prosecutors contend that Nesius, who pleaded guilty to possession of stolen explosives, was driven by a bit more than curiosity—claiming that he tried to sell the explosives at least once, an allegation that the Wyoming man denied.

According to court records, Nesius and a friend went camping on April 26 of 2013 near Red Lodge. While the two were looking for a camp site, they happened to stumble upon the bunker—which was marked with signs warning about the explosives.

Nesius later returned to the bunker with a pair of bolt cutters, and stole 10 boxes of explosives and nearly 4,000 feet of detonation cord.

Authorities say that Nesius, after hearing that authorities were on to him, had his brother—in a moment of extreme curiosity indeed—get rid of the hot explosives by dumping them along the side of a road in the middle of the night.

Nesius is set to be sentenced in December. He could face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

In response to a question about whether or not he still gets along with the original members of Kiss, Simmons said he does not, because he doesn't "get along with anybody who's a drug addict and has a dark cloud over their head and sees themselves as a victim."

His defends his position by pointing out that his mother was in a concentration camp in Nazi Germany, so he doesn't want to hear from anyone who says "the world is a harsh place." (It seems like he should want to hear from those people especially!) He continues:

"For a putz 20-year-old kid to say, 'I'm depressed. I live in Seattle.' **** you, then kill yourself. I never understand, because I always call them on their bluff. I'm the guy who says 'Jump' when there's a guy on top of a building who says, 'That's it, I can't take it anymore. I'm going to jump.' Are you kidding? Why are you announcing it? Shut the **** up, have some dignity and jump! You've got the crowd," Simmons said. "By the way, you walk up to the same guy on a ledge who threatens to jump and put a gun to his head, 'I'm going to blow your ****in' head off.' He'll go, 'Please don't.' It's true. He's not that insane."

Man Arrested as Video of Him Beating Autistic Boy at Party Goes Viral

Police have arrested a man for allegedly beating an autistic teen at a house party in Okeechobee, Florida, a brutal incident caught on tape and shared widely on social media.

The incident occurred on August 10, according to West Palm Beach-based WPTV:

The victim told detectives he was invited to a party on SW 9th Street in Okeechobee last Friday where he drank alcohol and was then told to go outside and fight someone.

The teen said when he refused 18-year-old Andrew Wheeler was called.

After Wheeler arrived, the victim says Andrew began beating the teen. In the incident report he claims Wheeler followed him outside, choked him until he lost consciousness and struck him in the face.

A police officer later found the victim after midnight lying in the road on Southwest 6th Street. He was then transported to a hospital.

A doctor said the victim suffered a sprained neck, facial and scalp contusions and a concussion.

An officer reportedly found video of the incident on Wheeler's Facebook page and immediately recognized him as the assailant. Wheeler, 18, has previously been convicted of car burglary, multiple thefts, and resisting arrest.

When picked up by police, Wheeler said he'd simply answered "a call that there was 'a drunk guy' at a party" who wouldn't leave. He was arrested and charged by local police with "child abuse without great harm."

WPBF-TV reported this morning that Evadean Lydecker, the mother of the party's organizer, was arrested today for "contributing to delinquency of a minor/holding an open house party." Lydecker was reportedly at home during the party.

TV producers found the full video of the incident so disturbing that they edited it heavily for broadcast, opting to put the unedited version online only.

Anger over the video has been palpable online, with a Facebook group and a hashtag—#JusticeForAaron, reportedly the name of the victim—springing up quickly. Many of those web activists were claiming that the boy had been invited to the party under false pretenses, expressly to expose him to beating:

Aaron Hill is a disabled boy in Okeechobee who was lured out of his home by a girl claiming to want to go on a date. Once to the location she chose, he was ambushed by Andrew Wheeler and a gang of at least 8 other people. Andrew beat him senseless, held a knife to his throat, And told him he was going to shoot and kill him. This was filmed the whole time, but currently this is the only video I can get a hold of. The video was on Andrew's facebook and he went around bragging about his crime. He was arrested, but only charged with minor assault and no charges or arrests are being made on the others involved. Some of the others involved have family in the Okeechobee police department and also DCF. One of the parents even destroyed evidence to protect their guilty little brat. So now the Okeechobee Police Department are trying to bury this story because some of the kids have ties to the department.

None of those allegations, however, have been confirmed by police. But they have led to some ominous threats against Wheeler and his alleged accomplices.

U.S. Couple Allegedly Murdered, Stuffed Mom Into Suitcase on Vacation

Indonesian police charged a young American couple with murder in Bali today. Heather Mack, 19, and her boyfriend Tommy Schaefer, 21, allegedly killed Heather's mom, stuffed her into a suitcase, and left the suitcase in the trunk of a taxi. Mack and Schaefer say 62-year-old Sheila von Wiese-Mack was killed by robbers.

Police said the couple hired the taxi and then placed the suitcase inside the trunk. They told the taxi driver that they were going to check out of the hotel and would return. After they didn't show up, hotel security guards who found blood spots on the suitcase suggested the driver take the taxi to the police station, where officers opened the suitcase and discovered the body.

Mack and Schaefer told investigators that robbers broke into Von-Wiese Mack's room and killed her. Exactly how she was killed is unclear—Bali's Head of Forensics Ida Bagus Putu Alit told the AP that she struggled. "We found scars on both forearms and the broken left-hand fingernail," he said. "That indicated a resistance in a fight."

The Daily Mail has more sordid details about Mack, Schaefer, and Von-Wiese Mack, and the tensions that may have been brewing between the three. A St. Regis staff member told the Mail that Mack and her mother were publicly fighting throughout the trip: "The mother had all the appearances of one of our upmarket guests. But the behavior she and her daughter showed did not belong in our hotel. Even so, it's such a tragic end for that poor woman." According to Chicago police, cops responded to over 80 calls to the Macks' home in the last 10 years but never made any arrests.

Mack is now claiming she's pregnant, it's ectopic, and that "it is vital she return home to the U.S. for care." She's being represented by a Chicago lawyer, but it's not clear if Schaefer has representation. The two "could face the firing squad if found guilty of a pre-meditated act."

UPDATE: Trolls Who Terrorized Zelda Williams Force Twitter to Revise Policies

Twitter executives promised to improve their user policies after grief-stricken Zelda Williams was harassed online about her father's suicide earlier this week.

A day after she posted a beautiful letter on Tumblr to her late father, Robin Williams, Twitter trolls began spamming Zelda with "cruel and unnecessary comments."

Zelda pleaded with her Twitter followers to report terrorizing bullies, who were apparently sending the 25-year-old morbid photos. Those accounts were eventually suspended, prompting Twitter to reexamine its policies.

Del Harvey, Twitter's vice president of trust and safety, said in a statement released yesterday to media outlets, including The Washington Post, that going forward they would not permit abusive behavior like Zelda endured.

We have suspended a number of accounts related to this issue for violating our rules and we are in the process of evaluating how we can further improve our policies to better handle tragic situations like this one. This includes expanding our policies regarding self-harm and private information, and improving support for family members of deceased users.

The changes, however, as some critics point out, will not stop Twitter trolls from simply creating new accounts.

Teacher Arrested for Showing Up Drunk to Math Class

An Arizona high school teacher was removed from the classroom and cited for public intoxication Wednesday after students said she was drunk and yelling at them during math class.

Kathleen Jardine, 57, initially denied she'd been drinking, but fessed up after police found a half-empty fifth of vodka, an empty mini-bottle of white wine, and half a bottle of Sunny D in her purse, KTVK reports.

Jardine reportedly told the deputy assigned to Poston Butte High School that she'd been drinking Tuesday night, and continued into Wednesday morning. Fearing she was too drunk to drive, she took a cab to school and continued drinking in the classroom during lunch.

Her fears were apparently valid: the Pinal County Sheriff's Office said her BAC was .205.

Jardine was fired in 2011 from another teaching job, at a high school in New Mexico, also for being drunk during class.

I don't understand why people become teachers and then end up like this. They know the pay sucks and kids are stupid and annoying so if this was going to be the end result why go down that path in the first place?
