It was gambling. When the other kid (seymour?) was talking to him in school he said he had odds for him on a "sure thing" and Mark said that he didn't do that anymore.
Oh, I must have missed that part. Thanks.

So when Mark becomes Molten Man, it's permanent, right? If it is, that would suck for him. I would like see more development of Mark. He seems like a cool character.

Someone has obviously seen this episode since wikipedia suddenly has the writers and director for the episode listed. Wikipedia says the writers are Allison Gollic and Randy Jandt, and that the director is Mike Goguen.

Molton Man is just a speculation. All we know currently is that Mark is Blackmailed. Probably due to his dealings with Blackie Gaxton. Now that GG is the new Big Man, he has ties to what Blackie knows

Yes its permanent. I mean its not like hes disappearing or anything. Hes still going to be Mark and he can still get character development.

I am really starting to like the character of Mark Allen. And there was some very interesting development with him and MJ. He will definitely be a sympathetic villain.

That's true. Green Goblin technically is the new Big Man, since Tombstone is being closely watched by the police. But what about Hammerhead? I thought he would become the new Big Man. Unless, Hammerhead and Green Goblin had a secret negotiation/discussion over who will be the new Big Man.

Okay, I guess Molten Man is not a guaranteed in "Subtext." I just read the episode description. It just said that he was blackmailed.

Come on, you don't really expect to see Molten Man debut in "Opening Night" or "Final Curtain", do you?

I don't think Hammerhead was working on behalf of Gobby. He was working on his own accord taking an opportunity for himself. Hence the conversation Norman had with Hammerhead further giving him confidence to betray Tombstone. Norman was simply using him.

Hammerhead was just being manipulated by the Green Goblin, he has no idea that he was even involved in the last episode.

Well we only got 3 episodes left...and Molten Man was confirmed this for season....

Molten Man definitely shows in Subtext, why would the Green Goblin want to a lowly teen to do his bidding when he's already become the new Big Man unless he's a new super-villain?

Spiderman perhaps. He has been taking villains down including Gobby so maybe this is a different approach. Spiderman is the last obstacle that continues to get in the way.

Sounds like this could be a good episode, cant wait to see it online when ever that be. WE do know austrila is airing these later episodes earlier then canada. Cant wait to watch it hopefully soon.

Well, I'm not sure.

I think it's early for Molten Man to appear. We only saw Mark a few times. But either way, I'm fine with it.

Hammerhead was manipulated by Norman to take matters into his own hand and become the Big Man. Now that Green Goblin has taken over, how will Hammerhead feel? I mean, Hammerhead double crossed the three mob bosses, hoping that they will kill each other, so then he can take over. If the Green Goblin suddenly takes over, don't you think Hammerhead would be angry and try to fight Green Goblin for the position?

Quite possibly, but Hammerhead has been shown before (in Uncertainty Principle) that he is no match for the Goblin. There's also a chance that Goblin won't reveal himself directly to the mob, but run it indirectly by continuing to manipulate Hammerhead (though I'm not sure his ego would allow it:) Either way, Hammerhead's not getting what he wanted- the only question is if he will realize it.

I'm not going to read any of these posts but ask is it up on youtube yet? :)

lol.

I don't think so. The episode aired today in Australia. Maybe it'll be up tomorrow.

I got some more spoilers from the same guy in Australia. Not a very detailed spoiler, but better than nothing. Besides, who wants to be too spoiled before the end of the season two?

"Okay, we knew Molten Man was appearing. Just getting it out of the way.

Like the start of last season's Green Goblin arc, it's a "how we got here" flashback episode (this one's done slightly differently).

Looks like New Gwen (or should she technically be called Gwen Classic?) is here to stay.

Someone other than MJ has a wonderful personality. *shudder*

Three guesses who Norman replaced Otto with."

Mark having problems with gambling fits quite well. It's now more clear that this Mark is a fusion of Betty Brant's brother who was involved with Blackie in the comics and who also had several gambling debts, and the 616 Molten Man.

Of course, in the comics Betty's brother was killed in the crossfire which Betty blamed Spidey for. Here, Spidey's involvement might cause Molten Man.

Only one thing I want to know about Gwen:

Does she have a black hairband?

I don't know. I'm not going to spoil you guys too much.

Who was Betty's brother in the comics?

I have a feeling that Spider-Man will be hated by Liz when Mark becomes the Molten Man.

Bennett Brant, who had massive gambling debts due to association with Blackie Glaxton. Glaxton worked for Octopus and took both Brants hostage so he could flee the country, and when Spidey showed up to rescue them Bennett was killed by a stray bullet. Betty hated Spidey after that for a long time.

Bennent Brant was shot during an altercation involving Spidey, Doc Ock, and some Mobsters. of course he died and Betty hated spidey for a long time. at least until the Scarlet Spider emerged

Anwar beat me to it
