While I agree that insulting someone isn't right, I've also seen a general lack of arguing at ALL these days. I'm not sure if people feel discouraged to do so, or what. The few times I do see it are the people who don't know how to debate and resort to attacking someone else.

Hurt feelings over the internet are taken too seriously here IMO. This site has become the haven for the people of the internet who cannot handle semi-harsh banter.

While I agree that insulting someone isn't right, I've also seen a general lack of arguing at ALL these days. I'm not sure if people feel discouraged to do so, or what. The few times I do see it are the people who don't know how to debate and resort to attacking someone else.

I sort of agree, but to be frank I think that there are some moderators that see arguments as insults and then they infract or ban users that argue.

Some notable examples are MovieFan and Wilhelm Scream. Both of these guys could be straight up *******s but it seemed like they were banned for being *******s about arguing even when they weren't necessarily outright insulting or trolling.

Now I'm not saying that those were bad decisions necessarily because I don't know all the facts, I'm just saying that it's possible that users get in trouble for doing something that really just offends some particular moderator.

I think that's a little overly dramatic knows. If someone cannot debate without resorting to personal attacks, that tells me they probably don't know what they're talking about. (Or they cannot handle an opinion opposing their own.)

And since when has that really hurt anybody? It has done nothing but provide others amusement in the past... extreme cases aside. Trolls weed themselves out eventually... why stamp them out before we get some satisfaction from their very existence by watching them make fools of themselves.

I like to think that the Community used to be like a hockey game... we come here for conversation/to watch the game... yadda yadda...

We came here to see all that yes... but we hung around for the drama/fights. And the mods/referees let us watch and watched themselves... to an extent. Then before posters/players were hurt/killed... the mods/referees broke it up. The end.

in recent threads, there has even been admittance by someone that they say and do stupid things on here to get a reaction from people. im paraphrasing here of course, but really, why shouldn't someone who acts immature like this be put in their place?

if they want the attention, they should get it, the good and the bad. imo if you can't handle the repercussions, be careful what you post on the hype. but that should go to responses too, although i really wouldn't mind if the reigns were loosened a little bit on here. it feels like the hype is a person in a suit with their tie on too tight, lets loosen up the knot a little and it'll still look like a good suit

Can we have a thread that deals with religion without somebody bashing all religion?
It's happened at least twice in the religious debate thread, then there was that arguement in the topless bikers thread, and now some swell-headed bigot is bashing religion in the Pope was attacked thread!
Can the mods set down rules about this?
