What is the scene(s) with Joker in the black tux all about when he's shooting and laughing and when his face is half burnt (?) and he's biting the pin off the grenade and yelling "Buh bye!"? Was that scene kept in the film? Was it a flashback and was it a selling point on Leto as the Joker? He looked so good in those little snippets from the previews. I'm surprised I haven't heard anyone talk about him in that scene because he looked so insane and good.

Please tag spoilers

I'm a woman, and I wouldn't be offended by scenes of the Joker abusing Harley. It would be true to her origins. I do get the feeling that the ruckus caused by that one poster from Xmen: Apocalpse of Mystique getting strangled has made filmmakers go weak on such topics. I'm all for women's rights, but to make such issues taboo would be to disrespect women who actually live through such things.

That being said though, I hear Harley's personality has changed a lot over the comics and games. I haven't followed that closely, so I'm willing to give this Harley the benefit of the doubt that she's still faithful to some version of her in the comics. I just prefer the more victimized, abused Harley from the animated series. Not because I'm a sadist, but because it makes her story just a bit deeper.

I am also a woman, and I agree with this post completely.

Ugh. You're getting me excited for this movie. I was hoping you'd say it was terrible so I can keep my expectations low.

nope. I will probably go watch it again. Relaly appreciated it. The score works really well in the movie. The actors had obviously a great time.

There is humor, but the movie also knows when to be serious. It's not a deep movie, but it's an entertaining one.

for the record, I also liked deadpool. But it doesn't have as much humour as deadpool, it doesn't break the 4th wall like it.

The action is quite great. But Ayer doesn't know how to shoot a great action scene the way snyder does. still, it's efficient.

I understand why some people said batman was very bronze age in this one. This is true. The mid credit scene (there is one, but I prefer to tell you, because I know some people don't wait for the credit) is great. It has a real purpose.

read at your own risk, it's really really spoilery.

you get half of that scene in the movie. not the grenade bit, but him in a tux shooting at people while laughing is in. IT's the only time he interacts with the squad. HE's trying to save Harley.

If you really want to know what Ayer thinks of Suicide Squad and his involvement. Your going to have to wait a while.

Like the other poster said, about Josh Trank. Who wants to hire a guy who could potentially tell people not to see his own movie as it comes out?

Exactly

Yeah, Smith doesn't like everything he sees so I don't think it's fair to question his praising the film. He does tend to forgive things quickly and remain positive though.

Ayer did end up renouncing Sabotage, after time had passed

Glad that you enjoyed it, Cats! :D

Edit: Whoops. Miss several pages back.

From Ayer on the deleted scenes.
We have a chunk, there’s definitely over 10 minutes of material on there. But this cut of the movie is my cut, there’s no sort of parallel universe version of the movie, the released movie is my cut. And that’s one of the toughest things about writing, shooting, and directing a film, is you end up with these orphans and you ****ing love them and you think they’d be amazing scenes and do these amazing things but the film is a dictatorship (laughs), not a democracy, and just because something’s cool and charismatic doesn’t mean it gets to survive in the final cut. The flow of the movie is the highest master.”

“I think there’s a misunderstanding about filmmaking where you can somehow have this crystal ball and understand exactly how everything is going to work together and assemble together. Because remember scripts type word on a page, a black and white page, and when you’re on set you’re dealing with shots and you’re dealing with dailies, and so you have this 7-minute shot and maybe only 10 seconds of that shot is gonna end up in the movie. There’s infinite combinations, infinite knock-on effects, and it’s this strange alchemy that happens and things that you thought during the writing phase breaking your back trying to explain and needs three pages to explain it, you realize it works with just a look on camera in the assembly.”

“So it’s always a moving target as you try and distill and condense down to the best movie. And this thing was a beast, we had over a million and a half feet of footage, with an ensemble movie, 7 plus major characters that we have to introduce, a very complex story that is not your normal linear story and you’re introducing the audience to a whole new world, plus it just has my sort of sickness as a filmmaker in it, my vibe and attitude. So it just took a lot of work to find the movie, the movie was always there and even in the early cuts we knew we had something, we knew it was going to work, but to get it there…wow.”

Can people who've seen the movie share how their audiences reacted? (In comparison to other CBM audience reactions this year). Graccciiias

I have a feeling that the teenage crowd might save this movie at the BO. I don't think they care too much about muddle plots or a weak villain. As long as it's a fun movie with some humor than they couldn't care less. Then again i'm just basing this off my experience with them during different films

Funny how they became bffs after this movie :funny:

I didn't think the villain was weak. Not much screen time, but it was a real threat. You had stakes during every battle. You felt every one of them (save for harley and deadshot) could die.

The plot itself is simplistic, it's definitely not a strength, but it's not a flaw either. This kind of plot work very well for this kind of movie.

In terms of world building, it was a real treat.

To me, suicide squad was exactly what I thought it would be based on the trailers. The marketing has been spot on.

Watch the first trailer from CC. Ayer was going for a different tone completely. WB say ayer cut and said its not marvel enough and then they made a trailer production company cut/edit it. Why does WB think everything needs to be jokes. It doesn't work for all characters and movies. Look at the dark knight. Look at WW. Stop trying to be marvel and changing things after the fact. They have no direction

I disagree. The tone is exactly what I thought it would be after watching the first CC trailer.

My screening was like 4/5 full, and they laughed at the majority of the jokes, of which there are quite a few. There were only a few that they didn't get, that I did. There were a few "Ooohs" and "Ahhhs" in regards to El Diablo's abilities and Joker making his entrances.

Glad to hear all that bro. :woot:

the friend i saw it with had a great time too. He's planning to watch it again. Unlike me, he didn't like Letoker though. I say there isn't enough of him to compare with Ledger's take, but I liked what I saw.

Sigh...so we have no director's cut to look forward to then. :(

It's funny seeing Will in an ensemble like that.

Seconded. There were moments during the film that reminded me of the original Ghostbusters movie (not the feminized one), don't know if you felt the same way. It's not the type of story you philosophize on, but you go in with popcorn and buddies, and you have a good time with all the action, jokes and romance that come with a good blockbuster film.
