Mark Hughes in previous articles mentioned WB might want to turn SS2 into a Deadshot solo, or do another Deadshot movie separately, either way, Mel's into the redemption type stories which is what Will Smith likes to do, so if Mel's in, and provide a pivot around Will Smith's arc with a solid story, war/mission type background, with the current cast including Harley Quinn and Viola Davis, it'd be a must see event film.

Last week Mel Gibson said on his next project: "I'm working on a directing gig that I want to get going in Europe". Got acting too (Cops movie with Vince Vaughn and Daddy's Home sequel). He'll be busy in the next year or two. I think that means we will not see Suicide Squad 2 till 2020. If he'll sign, of course.

I don't like Mel as a person. I dont want a director who doesn't respect the source material to direct a DC movie. But I can put my personal grudges or displeasure aside if he makes a kick-ass SS movie. I am not that invested in SS2 now so whatever.

Wow, I fully expected the next news on this to be Gibson turning it down. But it sounds like there is a good possibility he will direct. This could be one insane movie.

The DCEU is a goddamn rollercoaster ride. I guess if we can't have a smooth track to simply good/great fun, the next best thing is an unexpected thrill-ride of news.

If the current CEO & leadership would not give Ben Affleck the time & everything he needs for The Batman what makes you think they will change their ways for Mel Gibson ? News flash they wont give up their power for anybody & that is why Mel Gibson will not say yes to this movie

Where did you get the idea that WB wasn't giving Ben everything he needed to make The Batman? From everything I read Ben decided to opt out because
he came to the conclusion it was to big of a task for him to handle with all the other things the movie requires and things going on in his personal life.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think Mel would ever consider something like this. Usually I'd say something like "he could be doing something else" but clearly WB is trying to make him one of their guys ala Affleck and Eastwood.

With the way the first movie ended and Harley is going to be in Gotham City Sirens, I don't think she will be in Suicide Squad 2. Unless GCS ends with her being captured and sent back to Belle Reve.

I think Harley is half the reason, if not more, people saw the first one. Doing a SS2 without Harley probably wouldn't draw that many people.
