So do you feel an ultimate cut would make this a GREAT movie? Or were there problems that can be fixed in that way

Thats EXACTLY how I feel. Well, depending on what we mean when we say "Ultimate Cut" - The BVS UC was a bit different than a regular Extended Cut in that it made some alterations(albeit minor) to certain scenes as opposed to just inserting cut footage ala LOTR. Basically, I'd like to see Ayer's version of the movie that they screened back earlier this summer, though that reportedly felt pretty short, so maybe a longer version of that. Aside from the absurd amount of cut scenes, and the apparent third act reshoots that made the climax OTT, I felt like the soundtrack songs 90% of the time were ill fitting and very arbitrary attempts to lighten the tone.

I know a lot of people seem unhappy with the script, but I think the script is fine and its the editing that ruined it. I loved the characters, LOVED the actors, I thought the somewhat generic villain plot would have been fine had they not made her so absurd at the end etc etc

I really do hope two movies this year with scathing reviews is enough to wake WB up and look at what they're doing and make a change. I really love what this universe could be. The casting from superman to Wonder Woman to joker is all spot on but they just don't seem to know how to execute it

They started this mess in the first place with the botched BVS editing. So then the lackluster response to that prompts them to intervene more with SS? How many times do you have to make the same mistake before learning from it? Granted, the UC of BVS didn't come out until after SS was fully completed, so even though that was received a whole lot better, it was too late at that point.

It's been flawed from the start. Building a universe on the back of a movie that was never intended to be the launching off point for other characters, letting a director with a mediocre track record head the brains trust for the entire project, followed by reactionary decision making and studio meddling, and most importantly, zero leadership overseeing the entire thing.

I saw you could already pre-order Suicide Squad blu ray with a Harley Quinn/Deadshot statue. I think right after BvS was released, they announced the ultimate cut. So, does that mean we aren't getting a Suicide Squad ultimate cut? :( People should start a petition for that, not getting rid of RT. :o

Just saw it. I liked it. I really liked it. I didn't love it but I DEFINITELY feel the critics are harsh on this. I mean, I see it. I see the aspects of the film that they are picking on and I guess it just didn't bother me. I didn't feel the movie had any serious pacing or ediiting issues either. This was NOTHING like BvS' TC which kept cutting and jumping all over the place. The movie had a flow to it where one scene led to the next.

The GOOD: The characters. The characters make this movie. I enjoyed almost everyone. Especially Will Smith. I haven't enjoyed Will this much in a LONG time. Its so good to have him back to his funny, charming charismatic self. He was great as Deadshot. Harley was great, too. She was a fun presence int he film. Although Margot Robie's New York/ Long Island accent kind of stood out to me and bothered me at times. But overall she was great. Everyone else was good, too and the cast had good chemistry with each other. The kids in my theater laughed everytime Croc spoke.

Leto's Joker....was it was. There were moments I liked him, moments where I wasn't quite feeling what he was going for. Honestly, I don't think Leto has a proper hold on what he wants to do with the character yet but I see the potential. Also, surprisingly, I wasn't bothered by his lack of screentime, he was essentially an extended cameo. Like Batman.

I like that this DCEU world is a world supernatural s*** is kind of a regular occurrence and we're plopped right in the middle of it all. The characters all have history and this movie felt like a day in the life in the DCEU world. I like this approach they are taking.

I thought [BLACKOUT]Enchantress[/BLACKOUT] was OK as a villain. [BLACKOUT]She had some cool, badass moments that I liked, like when she took on the Squad members all at once by herself.[/BLACKOUT] I'm a sucker for those kind of fights. But It was nothing to write home about.

The plot definitely failed this movie. It was way to fast moving and simplistic Although I can SEE what they were going for. I think they were trying to go for the Predator approach where this rag tag team of characters are plopped into an isolated environment and are forced to work together. The execution just could have been better. The movie could have EASILY been 15 mins longer to flesh out the character development between the squad members.

Also, the action needed to be better. It was fine and serviceable and entertaining enough but there were no standout sequences in this that made you go "oh **** thats awesome!" If this movie had a GREAT action sequence ala warehouse fight from BvS then this REALLY would've tipped the scales into "great" territory for me.

Still letting it all soak in. I didn't love it, and I'm not SURE if I'm gonna own it on Blu ray but it was very entertaining. The plot is basic, the villain is serviceable, the action does its job but the SQUAD makes the movie. This movie would've have been a complete fail if the Squad members were not likeable and did not have chemistry with each other. I do not see anything that would outright make someone hate this movie so, imo, I feel like a lot of critics are being hyperbolic in their vitriol for this movie but, hey, to each his own.

7-7.5./10

As much as I'd like to see an ultimate or director's cut, this might become problematic as a 'let's just wait out 2-3 months for the superior, better put-together Blu-ray' rep develops for DCEU movies.

If the blu ray comes with deleted scenes I will download the fan edit.

True. Maybe, y'know... WB could stop meddling with films too, so we wouldn't have this problem. :o

There's no other cut, Ayer has already said that and he clearly has no interest in now making a new cut to make critics happy on blu-ray. This is the film, a bunch of inserted deleted scenes to flesh out a jumpy story isn't going to magically fix all the other issues this movie had, the issues go deeper than that, from casting choices, to script issues to poor action. A longer cut with deleted scenes will just be an incoherent movie with newly added scenes................big deal.

Good. As much as I want to see the best cut, I don't want them to make a habit of doing this DLC BS.

Give us the best version in the theaters.

Every studio fiddles with their tentpole movies, but WB seems to be making an art form out of it. The whole self-proclaimed filmmaker-driven business also helps sharpen the knives. Good of them to have it actual practice and execution; silly of them to prematurely publicize it.

Ironically a movie like this probably would have benefitted from MORE Snyder. As much as I enjoyed it and as much as he clearly tried I think Ayer missed out on some of the nerd things Snyder would have made sure to include particularly in the combat scenes.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Time Warner suits were in Burbank next week with their swords sharpened

When did Ayer say he has no plans of making a different cut? All I read was that he said the TC was "his cut"

And whilst they shouldn't "make a habit" out of releasing a stronger cut on Blu-ray after a sub-par TC, I much prefer that they do that than give us a horribly put together movie and then just have us be stuck with it like that forever. And then going forward, keep the studio away from the editing room at all costs.

I hate to say it, but I think the Bohemian Rhapsody trailer was this movie's kiss of death. And the test screenings seen to only have made things worse.

Eh, I dunno, I see what you guys are saying, but by releasing director's/extended cuts on blu ray you're actually giving extra incentive to people to buy the home video release.

I'd rather get stuck with this version and having the whole future of WB make better films in theaters than allowing them to keep on double-dipping on their audience.

But they're going to do the second one because money.

Well the BVS UC was hardly "double dipping" since they released the cuts simultaneously in the very same package. Which was great. I'm not saying going further I want them to release UC's on Blu-ray, I agree that the best cut should be in theaters, but in this particular case, this most obviously was NOT the best cut. Probably the worst possibly cut they could have made. I don't really expect them to do that with this movie, but I guarantee that after the critical bashing that its at the very least being discussed now if it wasn't before.

Yeah. They're going to have to release some scenes, deleted scenes if you, one way or another.

I'll be more impressed if they don't though. If Ayer says that this is the final cut (he said that it's his cut so yeah) then I'll have more respect for Ayer for standing by the product.

I demand a director's cut/ alternate cut/ extended--whatever. As much as I liked the movie...I dont feel compelled to buy this on blu ray to rewatch it. Releasing a version with more content on home video will DEFINITELY get them my $20.

The things that I would do to be a fly on the wall at WB right now. Based on that THR article, Ayer had his initial cut. Then the studio made that other cut(that ridiculous move of having a trailer company put it together), and seemingly the pressure was so immense on him that he was willing to work with the studio to combine these cuts and try to get the best of both worlds. So evidently, he was able to put it together himself, without the studio directly making the decisions, under their orders however. Oy. MESS.

What a mess indeed.

I hope to god that the "trailer editors" crew is not real. Has that ever happened before?

I'd be shocked if it had. That just seems like the WORST idea anybody could have had.
