Shia is crazy didn't he hate working on all those blockbusters with spielberg and co
I doubt as much as he liked working with Ayer that he'd want to be in suicide squad

well rick flagg is not an interesting character to begin with deadshot was always a priority

deadshot was probably my fav. character anyways

I finally saw this movie last weekend. I did not think it was a good movie, but there's just something about these DC movies that I'm sympathetic toward. Both BvS and SS missed so many opportunities and really fumbled their potential... but maybe some of their ambitions still show through so that even though they fail I still admire the attempt?

I have a lot of problems with the movie, nothing that I'm sure hasn't been debated ad nauseam on here, but the scene where Harley ditches the squad and does acrobatics on the helicopter rope and Deadshot "misses" was perfect.

I'm still wondering if there is an amazing movie laying on the cutting room floor or if it was doomed from the start? (the villain plot and threat was just bad).

that's what I wanna know.

Written down to build Will up... of course.

Its Suicide Squad. Not sure writing up "GQ" would have been a good idea. Unless he was a DC comics character I had no problem with the choice.

I actually like Joel in the Rick Flag role the more I watch it. However, since Tom Hardy wasn't in the movie I'm ok with him having a lesser role as well.

Blame test audiences for the Joker scenes being cut.

And Harley has the ring. Now, that's truly awful.

That's not an actual image from the Justice League vs Suicide Squad comic, it's probably just meant to be a poster for the miniseries. Both Batman and Harley are holding weapons from both sides. Harley had Wonder Woman's lasso and Green Lantern's ring, and Batman has Deadshot's eye and Katana's katana. The Suicide Squad did fight the Justice League in issue 13 of the Ostrander series, the funny thing about that fight is that Captain Boomerang and Guy Gardener fought each other during that fight and Guy simply just sat inside a bubble during the fight.

Is that a fact?

Is that a fact?

WB had a company that edits trailers make a cut of the movie and Ayer's cut and the trailer cut were shown to test audiences. The trailer cut which was the one that has Joker being in love with Harley instead of abusive was the one that won with the test audiences.

hardcore #SuicideSquad fans keep referencing Iron Man box office, but forget that same year The Dark Knight did a BILLION - come on guys...

General public doesn't like abuse. They need Joker to be loveable.

I watched The Dark Knight the other day.

It amazed me how much "The Joker" really carried that movie. Heath was great, but more or so how they used him and how he fit in the story. It just added this layer of greatness to the movie.

That is one example of how the greatness of the Joker used right elevates a very good to great movie to being maybe the best comic book movie of all time.

Here they take the opposite approach and make the Joker have very little meaning to the overall story. Either Ayer/WB/ maybe Leto? needed to make it clear that the Joker was needed in this movie and come up with a great story line for him.

Any problems people had with this movie could have been glossed over with "Great Joker involvement"

Instead they make him more irrelevant and the movie suffers because of it.
Its like having Tom Brady and only playing him for one quarter.

What I find funny is that some of Margot Robbie's comments about the movie sounded like she expected the abusive version to be released. She said that Harley's story in the movie is about independence and she also said "You don't know whether Harley's going to laugh, hug you, or shoot you in the face. And Joker's even worse than that." there was a line in the movie similar to that only it was stated that Harley is the crazier one.

Which is odd because he is a villain who regular murders innocent people.

Nicholson and Ledgers Jokers both came onto the female love interests in a way that was creepy. Both of them harmed women.

Nicholson's Joker disfigured his attractive girlfriend Alicia Hunt. Heath's Joker dropped Rachel Dawes out a window and later blew her up.

I understand wanting a Joker who is entertaining but I don't agree that he should necessarily be likable or that his relationship with Harley should not be dysfunctional. I think the Joker should be a entertaining flamboyant character yet disturbing and evil.

Pretty much. Test screenings with a "general crowd" also don't always prove to be a good thing or represent the crowd looking forward to the films. As you said it's been proven for decades that the Joker sells being disturbing, evil and over the top. That's why people like him. We need a good entertaining villain. Which is a major part of SS's problem. The Joker is the biggest A class villain in the comic book game. The main villain here or pretty much any film can't touch his status, so why would the studio ignore that and think someone like Enchantress would be the stronger route?

That said, while I don't think audiences want a kind nice Joker, I think they do really want a Joker that likes Harley this early in the game. They are looked at as perfect villain couple by many. Their romance is the sell and what peaks interest. Don't think it matters how much messed up stuff they are doing to others, they just don't want the Joker and Harley to be enemies themselves. Harley's most popular iteration prior to the film this gen was the Arkham games and she's is pretty evil there herself. Harley and Joker doing evil stuff is part of macabre fun.

Every single person I've talked to who saw this wanted more Harley and Joker. With more explaining their history or to see them fighting Batman/other hero's alongside each other. The actual team character dynamic of the Squad characters didn't really hit well interest wise from what I have gathered. Their value is so high on the theatrics and pop culture level that it was pretty much impossible for them not to steal the show even if they were not given a proper showcase.

If you put Harley in the Nolan movie or Tim Burton movie where she gets killed by the Joker clearly that makes her a disposable female character.
In suicide squad she is basically the lead of the movie its a very different situation. Joker is not even the villain of this movie from the audiences perspective he is an ally to Harley who is a protagonist among the suicide squad

The sad thing is how easy it would've been to have Joker be the main antagonist.

Man...the more I think about this movie the more I dislike it, right now I think I may hate it. Mostly because the whole plot doesn't make sense.

Greg Berlanti confirms the Suicide Squad on ‘Arrow’ was a test for the film:

To what extent are the comics R&D for the TV and movie properties? Does DC Comics president Geoff Johns come to you and say, “Hey, here’s something we tried out in a comic. Let’s try it here”?

Sometimes, or he has other executives mention that to us. They said to us a year and a half before they started developing Suicide Squad, “Will you guys put [a version of] the Suicide Squad in your show? Because we want to have it as a film at some point.”
