Updated true number for box office as of 09/18:

Domestic: $313,774,166 43.6%
+ Foreign: $406,000,000 56.4%
= Worldwide: $719,774,166

SS is near 720M now.

How much to reach GotG?

Fifty million, i.e. "won't happen."

They already solidly beat GotG without China. Anything else is just cherry.

China should have allowed it. Now we'd be talking about 800mil figures

How much to reach GotG?

GOTG's final WW gross is 773 million. I'm expecting SS to finish with a final tally of 755 million.

Suicide Squad is a bigger hit than GOTG even without China. :woot::woot:

The late legs are nothing short of impressive. I definitely didn't see that coming after the 2nd/3rd week end drops. It definitely has a shot at 325M+ and will probably end up just a few millions shy of BvS domestic numbers (and it would have possibly been the case ww as well had the film been released in China). Also that would be a 2.45ish multiplier which looks definitely better than earlier prospects. Still more frontloaded than any first installment released by the most direct competition but apparently that's how the DCEU films perform at the box office, more along the lines of the Harry Potter and Twilight franchises than the Marvel Studios movies. That probably goes with the territory anyways. DC always had powerful properties from the get go likely to draw huge presales, and lead massive opening week ends while Marvel Studios had to build their catalogue almost from scratch, relying on word of mouth and powerful legs (like Ant-Man or Guardians, even The Avengers falls in that category to an extent) to get successful hits at the box office. And lately their most well known properties show as much frontloading as the recent DC films (mainly Civil War and Age of Ultron). It's going to be interesting to see how things will develop for the DCEU in the future. I feel like their first three installments getting a mixed reception might actually lead to relatively smaller opening week ends for the likes of Justice League and if the film ends up well received it might actually very well improve over its predecessor staying power at the box office. Which isn't the way things usually go but I wouldn't be surprised.

Man with China Suicide Squad could have gotten in the low 800 million range. Probably within less than 60 million dollars reach of BVS's 872 million WW cume

with china suicide squad could of been in the top 10 of highest grossing super hero films of all time ah well still making good bank

Just remember those dreamed-of 100 million from China only would've translated to $25m for the studio. China numbers are mostly bragging rights numbers. We can make a simple profit calculation once Squad has ended its round.

I've given it a thought and from my limited understanding of BO revenues, SS is one of the most profitable CBM's of all time.

I think the % of the total gross that the studio gets from different markets are more or less something like this,

Domestic - 60%
International - 40%
China - 25%

I'm definitely generalizing all the overseas markets and the studio might not get 40% in some countries so this is not accurate but it's not way off either.

In any case SS is probably the 9th most profitable CBM ever behind the billion dollar club residents and Spider-Man(2002) and Deadpool considering just the BO revenue. That's a great achievement any which way I look at it. :woot::woot:

Remember the day when the RT reviews came in and a lotta certain people were predicting doom and gloom for SS' box office haul? Good times. Funny that nobody of those people have been posting in the SS board lately.

Haha, I remember all of that. I made it a point not to engage them at that time. I just quietly sat back and observed how some posters immersed themselves in unrelenting negativity during those 3-4 days. Good times indeed.

I hoped the BO will do the talking for us DCEU fans. Turns out I was hoping right. :pcg:

The verdict is out in the open and it's loud n clear. Bring it on doom n gloom people, we got nothing to worry about. Now it's time for us DCEU fans to bask in the glorious success of Suicide Skwad. :woot:

I did the same. So many posters here and elsewhere talking doom and gloom for the DCEU, how it's over, that it needs to be rebooted, everyone is getting fired etc... pshhh.

And now look. Naysayers nowhere to be found. This movie has had a fantastic run. It's been quite an achievement. The future of the DCEU is very promising and I am very much looking forward to how it continues to unfold

Quoted for truth.

lets stop with this calling out naysayers of the box office thats what got box office thread closed

Even as a DCEU fan, I didn't think SS will reach 600M dollars, but 720M? Goddamn.

SS is still the weakest of the DCEU movies, at least for me it is so I'm very happy for it's success but really surprised at the same time.

oh yes, I am definitely happy. The cast gave us a fun movie and the only thing that will heal their wounds after critics reviews is audience approval. They got it.

Incredibly happy for this movie. This franchise has tons of potential. Still, cant help but wonder....what IF this got rave reviews, how much that would've increased the BO.

Its box office is earned in spite of overwhelmingly negative reviews. This time, the hobbyist critics were paid no mind. :)

It was an entertaining movie. Critics obviously help or hurt box office, but people know what they like and word gets around. I know some DC fans say it's a weaker movie than others, but, personally, I liked it better than MoS or BvS.

I'm shallow..... :woot:
