Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 35

Transformers 4 is one of the worst, most boring movies I've ever seen in theaters. That piece of garbage somehow made over a billion dollars. The amount of money that movie made does not represent the quality of the movie.

I'm still puzzled at how Suicide Squad made so much. Most of the people I know or on social media said how they didn't like Suicide Squad, called it "boring." I don't recall the word of mouth being very good either.

WOM must have been somewhat decent otherwise the movie wouldn't have made as much.

You guys have to understand though that the vast majority of moviegoers are simply going to these movies to escape, to laugh and have fun. We may vehemently hate Transformers but the "fun" and spectacle of those movies are undeniable. The average moviegoer doesnt care about plot so long as the characters and action onscreen are entertaining to them. Thats the secret formula.

Thats how SS won over the casual audience, the characters were charming and fun despite the messy plotting, so people enjoyed it. It really is kind of a science when you break it down.

Exactly. Take Transformers 4 for example, the main purpose is to show mind blowing visual effects extravaganza. It's pretty much a roller coaster ride. Hence why it made over a billion dollars. Billion dollars doesn't reflect quality. I'm looking at Jurassic World. It's not meant to win Oscars. It's meant to provide the audience with an insane ride. Can't really look at box office numbers in both extremes to judge quality. I'm sure most Oscar nominated films barely make a fraction of what cbms make. Anything over 600million plus just means a lot of people went to see it and possibly went to see it again.

Exactly, I mean, look, no one's denying that the movie has serious problems, but, like Transformers, there is that fun factor that you could see the audience latching onto. I could picture a lot of regular people having fun with this movie.

Also, Sleiek, your CBM ratings are more or less the same for me, I pretty much enjoyed every CBM this year on varying levels. :)

Totally agree with both of you. The characters were the strength of this movie. With Transforners it's the action and spectacle.

And for SS to make the money it did means people went to see it more than once.

I'm really starting to appreciate film editors right now. It's so hard to come to a final cut. I've got like 7 different versions of the first 20 minutes of SS.

Oh yeah, man, film editing is a MAJOR pain in the pass. Every. Single. Time.

I'm sure any of your versions are miles better than Trailer Park's abysmal result. Any editing I've done has been within iMovie. Fun stuff, but yea...lots of decisions. So were the audio tracks separate if your able to remove the songs? Are you using Final Cut?

I just use movie maker, it's so darn easy and it does everything I need...and it barely crashes.
If you use a version of the movie with the 6 audio channels you can remove the music. It's just a bummer because with some scenes you can still kind of hear the music, like with Harley's cell scene with Riggs.

I just searched Suicide Squad on a certain...jack sparrow website and looked in the details section for the audio channels.

 Haha gotchya. That's kinda what I figured, just didn't know what to specifically look for. Thanks! And once you've got a fan edit out there, be sure to give us a heads up!

Sure thing! I was trying to upload the first 10 minutes of mine on a few sites but they keep restarting the upload and taking ages for some reason. So annoying!

..aaaaaaaaaaand it finally worked!

It's....it's...yeah, cancer. If you have a somewhat negative opinion on anything you get downvoted to hell, even if it's the truth and not a subjective topic.

Great work. Really like it. Even with the limited scenes you have to work with, you put them together well and it flows so much better.

What a difference having a score in place of pop songs makes! Feels more like a film than a music video.

Indeed.

How unfortunate is it that Suicide Squad felt like it was more in tune with Joel Schumacher's style than the tone set by Zack Snyder's DC entries. Almost 4 months since release and the disappointment of this movie still gets to me lol :wall: I just hope future DC Films don't follow suit.

Well, Wonder Woman apparently looks promising and Patty Jenkins isn't David Ayer or Zack Snyder, but by the same token, Suicide Squad, much as I like it, felt more promising than Dawn of Justice and David Ayer isn't Zack Snyder. And we saw the end result.

That's funny because Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor was so cartoony he felt like he belonged in the Joel Schumacher batman universe. It says a lot when he's even more annoying than Ahnuld as Mr. Freeze.
