I thought the Bats-Deadshot scene was great, but I do agree about it being a missed opportunity. Transport yourself back in time and watch the leaked video of the Comic-Con trailer with the audience. Back then, I thought this movie was going to be monumental. It was going to be the ultimate DC movie for me since the TDKT.

True that, I had high hopes for this one but somehow the stuff we were promised never really materialized on screen.

Planning another "Fan Cut", eh ? :woot:

Man, I remember many tweets of people saying how Ayer did Batman justice, unlike Snyder. And many posts on here after that suggesting he should do JL. smh
I do think Ayer was the right person for this movie, though. I really think there's a gem under there if you remove the trailer style editing, the non-stop playing of songs in the background etc.

Thanks for this. You give me hope that this actually might be the good cut.

Lol i figure i may as well give it a whirl. Especially if there are deleted scenes

Guys, I think we need to keep perspective here. There is a reason they're calling it an "Extended" cut. Not "Director's" or'Alternate" or "ultimate." We're not getting an alternate version of the film, we're getting more scenes. That doesn't mean that the extra scenes cannot make the film better, I'm certain they will, but this will not be a restructured film.

Obviously nobody knows for sure yet, but we are speculating based on the scenes shown in the trailer. And think about it. We know we are getting more of Harley's origin, at the very least, and I just don't think they are going to shove that in to Wallers dinner scene. And really. The original dinner scene is not ALL that different. The dialogue is very similar, but it won't have her horrible exposition of telling her story about how they all came to be. And again, there is the issue I initially brought up of there being 13 minutes of new footage but the movie is only extebded by 11 minutes. Even BVS UC(which the box still referenced as an "extended cut") had a restructured first act and a few alternate shots. Obviously not to the extent of what some of us are speculating has happened here, but still.

That's a good point, actually. I forgot that BvS does refer it to an "extended cut" on the box and digital copy even though its obviously the director's cut. The main difference though, is that Zack Snyder and his wife were both promoting the longer version while Ayer is pretty much radio silent. This seems to be a version of the film that the studio put together and not the director.

I think we can conclude that the name they use is irrelevant UNLESS it's called the director's cut. Ultimate, extended, alternate. They're all just buzz words to market the thing. An extended cut is always going to be an alternate cut, and ultimate only means that it's the LAST cut they're going to release.

About the restructuring, at this point there is no doubt in my mind that SOMETHING is going to be restructured.

If they keep all the same songs in this cut then I'm hoping that there are enough audio channels on the blu ray to be able to extract the music from the film so I can do a fan cut.

Glad I'm not the only one whose thought of that!
As a big fan of Batman v Superman's music, I was disappointed with Suicide Squad's less than memorable score which I felt got drowned out by the choice of full volume songs. Not that I thought all of the songs were bad, just out of place and distracting. Rather than contributing to the story and atmosphere (like in Guardians of The Galaxy), the music in Suicide Squad seemed to take center stage which did the film a disservice in my opinion.
If anything, I'd like I Started A Joke by Sidney Chase put in the film. It's certainly more in line with the tone that I think the film was originally going for.

Just watching the older trailers. Totally forgot about Enchantress saying, "Let's do something fun."
Anyone else wish she just had that voice the whole time? It makes her a whole lot less cheesy for me.

Yeah part of my problem was with how goofy she looked and sounded as the movie went on.

I feel like there's a great performance in Suicide Squad its just not handled very well. Not a clear vision from Ayer and too much meddling from the studio.

I think there's a very good movie in there. Just not handled as well it should have been.

That is my biggest fault with the movie, the more I watch it the more I realise it is a muddled mess which doesn't know what it wants to be. Love it or hate but Snyder at least had a vision for BvS.

But I'm starting to think there isn't a "good cut" buried somewhere it just seems flawed from the very beginning. I remember looking back and thinking how exciting it was that the DCEU was introducing magic before Marvel, but the magic in this is half assed (just like everything else in the movie, it's mostly just "there" with little to no explanation), a bunch of mumbo jumbo, bright colours and stupid dances. This does nothing for Shazam or Justice League Dark or get me excited in general about the mystical side of the DCEU.

In this day and age I simply can't accept this was the best story Ayer could come up with even in 6 weeks. You have an Oscar Award winning actor playing the most iconic super villain of all time, jesus use him! Even if Ayer had just blatantly copied Assault on Arkham it would of been a much better movie.

It's a big dumb (fun) movie and I actually quite like most of the characters. But like some of you guys have said I think he was overwhelmed by creating this monster of a blockbuster, he didn't know what to do from the start and of course WB's interference didn't help but at least with a clear vision he could of pushed back and preserved some of the spine of the film. If he makes more gritty urban dramas great I'll watch them, but I don't want him anywhere near Suicide Squad 2 or any DCEU movie ever again.

The magic was ****. Just plain ****. Doctor Strange knocked it out of the park in that department.

Just including the original scene where June Moone explores the cave would have done something to enhance her character and give a bit more background about Enchantress.

I'm actually surprised Ayer went with the magic angle (studio mandate?) considering he's known for very grounded movies. They easily could have picked a different villain in the DCEU for the Squad to go up against. Maybe... I don't know.... JOKER?!

David Ayer wont do a Audio Commentary for #SuicideSquad that tells you everything u need to know.

Does it?Zack didn't do it for MOS or BvS.

In hindsight its amazing they didn't just do a smaller gritty movie like Assault on Arkham.

He bit off more than he can chew. So did the studio.

Plenty of directors don't do audio commentaries. It means nothing.

Ugh that guy claims to be a fan of "both" but he just hates on everything DC, he definitely isn't a news source either.

Yeah exactly don't see them as often these days.

Nolan didn't do any commentary for the TDKT therefore TDKT sucks :sly:

Did Ayer do commentaries for all the other films he directed? If not this isn't a big deal.

It really doesn't. It's not something that's required or even necessary, especially given the lengthy special features we're already being given.

Yeah, between the initial Comic Con Suicide Squad and BvS trailers, I was like "Holy crap, the DCEU is gonna be amazing! I love this direction they're taking."

Agree with the poster a page or so back who said SS coulda made a great series. In my ideal world, the entire DCEU would be multiple series with big movie budgets. I feel like, for example, a lot of the themes and ideas presented in BvS could have used some room to breathe, in addition to more character development. They tried to jam pack so much in, I can only imagine how great it could have been as a Season 1 of an all encompassing DCEU series, similar to Game Of Thrones. Or at least, if BvS were extended into a 5 hour two parter, like the final Hunger Games or Harry Potter films. Make kind of a Man Of Steel trilogy that focuses on the arc of Clark becoming Superman and gaining acceptance from humankind.
