Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation - Part 8

Some of his accessories don't do it for me as well. And I can't get behind the tattoos (hopefully they have some great story behind them). But it's all his mannerism from that video that is keeping me excited for Leto's take at the moment.

In the meantime, this is my set reaction to all the tats,

:lmao:

I do like his mannerisms. The way he moves remind me a lot of "Arkham Origins" Joker actually. Leto will kill it.

If they just scrubbed off the shiffy facial tattoos, I would be absolutely enthused by this whole design. I love the way his classic, flamboyant, dapper appearance has been retained but shifted from a 1930s to a post-millennial context. And I love the way he moves.

This is exactly it. Its a modernized joker.

The tatoos dont bother me. Hell you can barely see them.

And yes it looks like he is going to go for the golden shower. Hes going to me a major abuser.

How do you feel about it taking the tattoos into account?

I like it in principle, and I can at least accept that the painfully self-aware tattoos emanate from the core of the character and compliment his showy, narcissistic personality. The ink above the neck is annoyingly distracting, however, and the "damaged" tattoo is off-key; it points to self pity rather than self adoration.

I do like so much of it, though. I love the way he restyles his hair after *****-slapping Harley.

I don't suppose "Damaged" could be referring to the fact that someone jacked his teeth up.

Reg, unless of course The Joker embraces that he is insane ("damaged") and loves it.

That makes the assumption that Joker sees the whole "Damaged" thing as a flaw.

Maybe the damaged tattoo is his way of making fun of this new generation and all the overreactions that take place on the Internet, and in a way, taking it an entire step further by getting it imprinted on his forehead for all to see.

Perhaps this joker yearns for the days before social media and all this technological madness. Maybe he just wants things to go back to the way they were when him and Batman were in their prime, playing a good old game of cat and mouse.

As you can tell, I'm really trying to find a way to like this joker, and it may actually be working.

Same here. He seems to have got the mannerisms perfectly.

This is what I'm most fixated on. He has Joker's mannerisms down to a T.

Yeah, as a I said, as a self-aware way to mock today's cultures, it is a great approach.

But it all comes down to whether that gets depicted in the context of the film in a right way or not. If it does, his look will be justified and will add more substance to his character. If not, it will fall flat and will be viewed as a cheap modernization, as it looks to some of us right now, given that we don't have an insight in the context.

Visually, outside of the context I will never like this look, but it can be made to work very well if they do a really good job with the character and the story.

The tattoos are the last thing on my mind when everything else looks so on point (the suit, the mannerisms etc..). My opinion of course.

So Greens.... where did you see that Adrien Gillan is on set?

Remember 30 minutes ago when I joked that Aidan Gillen was spotted on set? People believe it...

Pretty much.
The forehead tattoo will always be painfully stupid but it's such a small detail and the rest is perfect.
