They didn't shoot the Manhunter stuff in Peru? Well I'll be damned..... ;)

Great information...

I remember reading somewhere, or on one of the BTS videos maybe....Grant talking about the differences.

Bottom line for me is this..... if it keeps it on the air, move....move....move. :)
The very fact that they are trying to work out a move to Vancouver(possibly) is very encouraging.

Well yes, quite agree. But people need to know that a drop in budget and/or a move to a new city means more than just fewer special effects and different buildings in the background. ;)

http://www.itsfilmedthere.com/2012/01/talking-about-touring-warner-brothers.html

Btw, for the curious, here's a list of Supergirl filming locations that appear in the above blog entry photos...

Bugs and Daffy statues, above the text "I believe there are three main studios to tour..." :
This is the CatCo building exterior, at sidewalk level (the wide shots use a skyscraper down town.) It was used for the scene where Supergirl throws Cat Grant from the balcony in Falling, and when she rescues James and Winn (but not Kelly) in Myriad. An area just a few yards to the left of the photo was where Adam and Kara kissed in Bizarro.

Looking down the street towards a narrow alley, above the text "Usually in a scene filmed on a backlot..." :
The alley in the distance was where Winn and James meet up with Supergirl for the famous "HE KNOWS?!?" moment in Stronger Together. It was also used for some shots of Worlds Finest that never made it into the episode (but appeared in a few promos.)

The three storey buildings and with shop fronts, below the text "I will talk more about sets a little later in this blog." :
This area was used for the showdown with Livewire in the episode of that name. Some of the shop fronts with their stripy canopies can be seen in the background during the fight.

The grand building with columns and steps, above the text "New York Street lost some of its fame for me after "ER" ended..." :

This was used for the bank robbery in the Pilot ("Are you bullet proof?") and again for the bank robbery at the start of Manhunter. It is literally just yards away from the shop front where Cat Grant waited for her first showdown with Livewire. (It was, famously, also Gotham City Police HQ in the Adam West Batman series.)

EDIT: The street of town houses with steps, above the text "The other side of the street is the Warner Theater. " :
Okay, this wasn't a filming location, but it was where the famous photo shoot happened with Grant, Melissa, and Greg for Variety magazine. The photo of the curved theatre entrance below the text was where Supergirl was preview screened for school girls (it's a real cinema inside) just a couple of weeks before SD Comic Con, and Melissa signed everyone's cape outside.

The pics of dense trees, below the text "One last main backlot location is simply called The Jungle." :
This was used for Peru in Manhunter, and for Master Jailer's cabin in Truth, Justice... .

The cyan building, below the text "The main one is called The Bridge Building. Lots of productions use this building and I bet you will recognize it from my pictures. " :
The outside was used as a National City Airport terminal in How Does She Do It?, and the inside reception area was Adam Foster's hotel lobby in Strange Visitor... . Interestingly, it is opposite the car park, transformed via CGI into a skyscraper, that Kara saved from Max Lord's bomb in How Does She Do It?

So now you know. :)

If they want to keep it on the air, they will make it work. :)

J'onn J'onzz: Supergirl, bad news, we need to leave National City forever..! You and Superman can never return.

Kara: Wh-why? Did Max Lord detonate his Kryptonite bomb?

J'onn J'onzz: Hell no -- worse than that -- the California Film Commission is refusing to give us a tax credit!!

Kara: O...M...G...!!!!!

J'onn J'onzz: Exactly!

Priceless.

Speaking of National City,
There's a city by that actual name, right?

I like how comic Supergirl's new Rebirth design takes inspiration from the show ( and also she's working with the DEO apparently ).

with the DEO connection, I wonder if they will add MM to her supporting cast ( with J'onn as the head ), as well as the Danvers family ( including Alex ).

I dont like it nor do I like the idea of them bleeding the DEO into the books. Ugh!

well, I don't mind it.

and I would love if Rebirth Kara's personality is similar to Melissa's Kara personality ( sweet and adorkable ).

it would certainly be a step up from the angsty/angry personality that 52 Kara displayed for most of her run.

The are at least getting rid of the crotch shield.

IF Supergirl is moved to CW, with filming to take place in Canada and with a reduced budget, what does everyone think would happen to justify / explain those changes within the show?

Would Cat ask Kara to assist in the opening of a new office / division of CatCo in another city (i.e. the equivalent of Central City on Kara's Earth, even if it's not called that name)? Would they need to restrict appearances by Cat since Flockhart is probably one of their most expensive actors?

Would they use the change of city as a reason to separate Supergirl from the DEO, perhaps with just Alex, Wynn and James making the move? I would imagine that any superheroics from the Martian Manhunter, if he still makes regular appearances, would be reduced to ensure their budget went towards Supergirl's superheroics.

Or would they permanently de-power Kara in some way, for example, some kind of kryptonite poisoning or exposure which permanently removed her ability to fly, use heat vision and other "expensive" powers? Or would they have Kara use a "solar flare" like Superman in the comics, with the result that she's weakened for months / years later until she absorbs more sunlight?

As for the pod, I'm guessing it would have to contain Streaky the Supercat, who is immediately taken to the Fortress of Solitude to live.

Is it possible that they would permanently move Supergirl, and one or two other characters, to Earth 1 and follow her establishing a new life on a parallel Earth (with potential guest appearances on Flash and Arrow)?

Or would they simply continue as though there have been no major behind the scenes changes?

What????? why would you have to make ANY of those changes just because you are moving, they could build the same sets in Vancouver, or they simply move buildings in National City....she isn't moving from National City.

Streaky the Cat was not from Krypton....so why would he be in his own pod?

And they don't have to depower Kara, only use the more costly things like flying using shots they have or do a few flying sequences for the new season and use parts of those at different times when needed. Also, IF they get a bigger tax break in Canada, they won't have to scrimp as much as they would if they stayed in LA.

They would also simply spend more focused time on the characters, story lines etc....much as they did with say Smallville....which I actually wouldn't mind.

No flying for Kara would be like Smallville with the no flights, no tights rule. The show would suck without all of her powers.

They would have to move all the sets,I imagine Mrs.Flockhart wouldn't return or not be on set often. The cost of cgi reduces the more you use it because all the animations are stored on a computer somewhere. So she could keep all her powers and I don't think they'd transition her into the main earth of Flarrrow. Though that would be cool because I'm imagining a Vixen/ Kara crossover in animated and live action form. They'd have to fight right?

Depower Kara? Might as well cancel the show as it loses all appeal without featuring SUPERgirl. She needs to retain all her powers or else what hook does this thing have?

They aren't going to de-power her that is silly.

well I know that. My post was in response to the previous poster that offered that up as a suggestion

I know....I responded to them as well...

I wasn't suggesting that it SHOULD happen, I was just wondering whether the POSSIBLE move, change of network and reduced budget would have a visible impact on the show.

It seems as though, as I also suggested, most people believe that Supergirl would "simply continue as though there have been no major behind the scenes changes".

the flying is one of the best things on Supergirl.

Yes it is, and I think they have gotten it down to the best at t his point, so I think having a good amount of stock footage will go a long way for cutting costs and time in the shooting schedule...
