Supergirl Supergirl General Discussion Thread - Part 9

Man what a difference a year and a new network makes....the 2 shows that were getting all the positive press last year "Quantico" and "Blindspot" one is likely to be canceled and the other is in danger this year, while "Supergirl" is #9 of the most likely to be renewed on Spoiler TV's predictions. So weird...this TV series thing. ;)
I'm going to be pissed if Blindspot is cancelled. It has so many great actors, good writing, and is one of the better shows out there for featuring women and actors of color (unlike the coughArroweverseCough).

The Flash:
-Has 3 full (20+ episode) seasons in the bag, which guarantees a fourth for traditional TV syndication
-Any show with 3 seasons (of any length) on CW will automatically get renewed due to their Netflix deal
-Highest rated show on the network, by far
-Most successful show in the history of the network, by far

The Flash goes under the motto of "If it ain't broke..."

Arrow:
-Main cast signed seven year contracts before the show started
-Still the #3 show on the network and is related to the #1, 2, and 4 shows
-Has been sold into syndication, which means each additional episode is another round of huge checks for everybody involved
-Netflix deal still favors more episodes
-International sales favor more episodes

Seve years BEFORE the show started? Well the show is at season 5 and it's a pretty solid one. Improvement over season 4. And reruns are already on TNT cable here in the states.

Legends of Tomorrow:
-Still performing well above network average
-Is being moved to the post-Flash timeslot, the best and safest one available
-Received back order -- the largest one actors' availability would permit

The Flash as a strong lead-in will boost LofT...but it's all about the writing.

Supergirl:
-Easily the #2 show on the network, in arguably the toughest timeslot (Legends could have made that argument the first half of the season too)
-Is more than doubling their Monday ratings from last year

This despite an affiliate swap in Chicago when WGN-TV dropped CW for Independent with a heavy news and sports emphasis (and given the Cubs finally winning the World Series and the NHL's Blackhawks are contenders that may be a big risk big reward). WPWR-TV 50 now is the CW station. But fear not, true believers (Oops that's Marvel...wasn't Melissa so cute when she said that in the ET Interview...she's so adorkable!), the gang at CW50 showed some love for Supergirl, who in an 80's canon called that city home on the city's subway system or the Chicago Transit Authority.

If that isn't Chi-town love I don't know what is!

Flash and Arrow are going the full 7, minimum. Likely more.

Maybe Supergirl gets thrown in for at MINIMUM 7 seasons (which means 100 episodes, though The Flash will beat her to that milestone)

Supergirl, Legends, and iZombie are getting 4, minimum. Likely 7+ for Supergirl, maybe 5-7 for Legends.

Now let me say back in the day, when shows like Wonder Woman with Lynda Carter went into syndication, she had finished her third season. In New York on WNEW-TV (WNYW Fox 5), Wonder Woman was seen I think on Saturday afternoons in the 1980's. Given 60 episodes were made of the show (including the ABC pilot in 1975 and the 90-minute season premiere on CBS) doing it on a M-F basis would mean repeating after two months or so on the air. TV was quite different back in analog days (as even I myself!)

And, frankly, Gotham and Lucifer aren't going anywhere either.

So the war rages on I guess.

Powerless could be a major flop on NBC, we'll have to see on that one.

I mean given how they have in essence made this a mid-season replacement could mean trouble for NBC. I think NBC does not want ANYTHING to do with superheroes. Methinks they are BEGRUDGINGLY doing this.

Only way Flash and Supergirl don't make it to a 7th season is if Grant Gustin or Melissa Benoist doesn't want to do the show anymore or the CW goes out of business.
And even then the shows could continue with Wally West as the Flash and turning Supergirl into a show about Superman. Or move to a cable channel or streaming if CW fails.
Just like The Closer continued as Major Crimes when Kyra Sedgwick no longer wanted to do the show.

I can't see the CW failing, not unless its corporate owners deliberately kill it. Its probably more profitable right now than CBS is, at least after you exclude live sports.

CBS is going to be hurting badly in just 2 years if it doesn't bring in at least 3 hit dramas and another Comedy hit like TBBT....in the next 2 seasons because right now their only two hit shows will be gone by then.

I agree. They can only be the Big Bang/NCIS Channel for so long. But the shows I just mentioned happen to be the #1 comedy and #1 drama on network TV in their 10th and 14th seasons, respectively.

And just a reminder about Supergirl repeats during the holiday season:

The fourth episode of this season, "Survivors," is scheduled to air - get ready - on Wednesday, December 28, at 9 p.m., following a repeat of Arrow. The next two Mondays, 12/26 and 1/2, are both pre-empted by iHeartRadio specials.

PLUS...as I posted in the "Invasion!" discussion thread, the entire "Heroes vs. Aliens" crossover event will be re-broadcast starting Monday, January 9, and continuing through Thursday, January 12. The episodes will air at 8 p.m. EST.

A breakdown of Supergirl's moves in Injustice 2!

A little super silliness from Larry Teng and Chyler Leigh on this Christmas Eve.

I know Chyler is from North Carolina, but don't tell me she's gone all southern belle here?

That time when @chy_leigh was showing the crew the meaning of "holiday spirit"

Anything regarding Sanvers in 2B of Supergirl? — Ellen

Though there are a few bumps in the road ahead, Supergirl is truly investing in the Alex and Maggie dynamic. “The important thing is that we’re committed to this relationship and we’re committed to seeing it grow, change, blossom, and struggle, but also get stronger, deeper and more loving as we go forward,” EP Andrew Kreisberg says. “I don’t think people need to worry that suddenly this relationship is going to go by the wayside. It’s going to have it’s ups and downs, but we’re committed to Alex and Maggie — we’re as committed to Alex and Maggie as the audience is.”

Dark Raven's dream job! :oldrazz:

You might think so, but it wouldn't be at all because there's nothing appealing about a boot. If she were in flip flops that would be a different matter. :o

And then of course, if it were a job, that would mean getting stuck with any random person, but I would only want certain selected people.

I'm soooo looking forward to this. It's basically Smallville + Supergirl - the Supergirl story I've been wanting for a long time now.

plus the artwork and design looks amazing.

I dunno, one of the things that makes Supergirl interesting for me is she does remember Kryton, so that sets her apart from Superman, who was an infant and has no real memories.

But no sign of Silver Banshee?

I guess Italia's too busy on Designated Survivor. But that only returns in March, so she could put in an appearance.

true. but this is an out of continuity story, so I don't mind the change.

plus, from the sounds of it, Kara will regain her memories of Krypton as the story progresses, so that still sets her apart from infant Kal.

I hope we get a legit version of Mxyzptlk, and they don't feel the need to modernize him. He's fine the way he is. Gottfried should be cast

This show is goofy enough to where we can get a comics accurate Mxy

I would not hold my breath for that.

I really hope they give Metallo a personality this time around
