Supergirl Supergirl General Discussion Thread - Part 8

So, I know we knew there was no way Superman would become a regular on this show, and that's a good thing for multiple reasons. However, I just read this TV Guide article and this phrase kinda jumped out at me:

...Which just kinda makes me wonder if he was "loaned" to them with some very specific caveats. If that WERE the case, it would likely make future possibilities much more limited than some of us were hoping.

Dang bean counters I bet. Pay enough money to those in charge and magic.

Actually I never expected Superman to be a series regular because of the movie rights issues.

As I said, I don't think any of us expected him to be a series regular, but reading that little tidbit just made me wonder if some of the other possibilities some of us were hoping for (like a mini-series, TV movie, spin-off, etc) might actually be legally off-the-table for them, too.

Given the overwhelmingly positive reception of Superman on the show so far, I wouldn't be surprised if they gave him a few more episodes this season, at the very least. It's TV. Happens all the time.

Tyler just became the most positively received live action Superman in decades, it'd be a shame if legal BS got in the way of them using the character more freely.

I can see the WB allowing Superman to be used for few more episodes at best and I think it's safe to say a spin-off or TV-movie with Superman is out of the question due to movie rights.

Not to hijack the current topic of Supes, but I just watched several videos on YouTube of the various Supergirl and Flash actors singing and now I can't wait for the upcoming musical crossover episode! Holy crap that should be amazing, I had no idea neither Melissa Benoist nor Grant Gustin were actually that good. Not just good, they were great! And I already knew Jeremy Jordan (Winn) could sing, but had no idea that Carlos Valdez (Cisco) and Keiynan Lonsdale (Wally West) could too! Anyone who hasn't seen/heard them yet should check out these clips.

Superman will be back, by sweeps or the end of the year I bet. a spin off may not happen, But really, I think ratings and reaction matter here. If the episodes with him are higher rated than the big crossover or another Flash visit

The show legally can't have Superman as a regular on the series...

In one interview a while back, Hoechlin mentioned that Superman’s return wasn’t really contingent on fan reaction or ratings - it depended on Team Berlanti and WB working something out. This (and now the TV Guide article) suggests that a partial/quasi embargo remains in place.

And “legally” should probably be in air quotes. However this plays out, I expect it will be decided internally by WB/DC big shots - not a judge.

I agree and I suspect the mega crossover is mainly about them.

Or more accurately, that it takes place mainly on Earth 1. Like, I could see the basic gist being "Aliens invade Earth 1, Flash visits Earth-S to ask Supergirl for help, they return and everyone helps save the day." Though for something as big as an alien invasion, hopefully there are some episodes setting up the event beforehand, and dealing with the aftermath after.

it would be cool if they used him that way . Not sure of the odd's. But it would be cool,

Showing up maybe six episodes out of the season seems plenty to me. Granted, I'd rather have fewer two-parters and more "single episode appearances for character reasons". Superman holding up buildings and fighting cyborgs is fine, but Clark and Kara interacting as family is more important.

I agree...

Anyway, am I the only one amused by how ridiculously high tech Cadmus apparently is? I mean, they apparently have the ability to practically crap out near-Kryptonian level cyborgs; even without the kryptonite, that's a terrifying, world-threatening level of power. I half think the "Doctor" who runs Cadmus is only violently anti-alien because she thinks there can only be one god on Earth, and that being herself.

All I know is she gives me heebie jeebies....:csad:

That evil Doctor from Cadmus reminds me of Annette O' Toole of Superman 3 and Smallville.

oh I agree . but you cause he's there an all most people will want him involved as superman kicking villain butt. cause he's there so it'll be hard to do. I agree. but some many people will be on the opposite end of this.

hmmm I'd like to see an episode where clark is watching over kara but doesn't want to get in the way un less she call's for him to do so. and for him to do as a futher sign of respect.

That can also be done in mini series as well if they every explored that angle of a story. .

While the crossover is being touted as four-part event, Guggenheim considers it to be more of a three-part event, with Supergirl kicking off the story when Cisco and Barry appear to enlist Kara’s help at the end of a Supergirl episode.

“Some people call it a four-way crossover because it involves four shows; my ulcer requires me to call it a three-part crossover. The story that’s being told has a beginning, middle, and end: a beginning inFlash, a middle in Arrow, and an end in Legends. But Supergirl is very much a part of the whole thing, so we are crossing over four shows — four shows in three parts.”

awesome Cisco's coming. Cisco and Winn finally meet. and hopefully we'll see Cisco's reaction to Barry creating thing super girls universe like the meta human cells and the hearing aid device that silver banshee.

tonly time we saw how truly genius Barry can be with out Cisco doing all the work on tech and forensic's . which he seen not to be allowed to do on the flash .

I hope Supergirl inspires the heroes of Arrowverse as she fights the Dominators and someone pointed out that she may die at the end of the crossover hence why Kevin Smith's episode is titled, Supergirl Lives!

I hope Martian Manhunter meets the Flash that he and Alex didn't get to do in last season's crossover. I also hope Cisqo and Winn meet as well.

According to actress Danielle Panabaker, the crossover is Flash episode 8, Arrow episode 8, and Legends episode 7. If the crossover starts in Supergirl episode 7 and Grant Gustin said something about being in Supergirl episode 8, then Stephen Amell may be right this is five parts. Maybe not everyone from the Arrowverse will be in Supergirl episode 8.

Supergirl seems to be bookending the crossover event. Doubt the event will factor into episodes 7 and 8 much beyond Barry showing up.

I hope Barry being in Supergirl episode 8 is not the musical crossover they were talking about.
