Supergirl returns?

Since when is WW aimed at girls? HAhaha... that's hilarious. And we surely wouldn't want TWO movies aimed at girls... that'd be... uniconic!

WW isn't aimed exclusively at girls. But I have a feeling there'd be a few more females buying tickets than for, say, Dr Fate.

uh no.

because if its aimed "exclusively" at girls, WW would be a clotheshorse running a boutique.

they tried that formula back in the '70s and it didnt work. that's why WW is back in her battle armour today.

if anything, they're trying to aim WW at the boys, given that guys spend more money on comic books than girls. but no one will deny that lots of girls see WW as the ultimate role model (much like guys do the same with Superman), so TPTB keep in mind that when writing her stories it has to be inclusive to all.

thats what jordacar is saying. Comic books rarely influence comic book movie intake- if that was true wouldn't non mainstream comics that the general public hasn't heard of like 300 bomb.

WW is still in her armour because thats WW and her look- its iconic. Its like putting superman in green leather.

Superman tried to aim at girls and guys but lois was way too weak a character to pull it off. No-one is saying a supergirl movie would be a chick flick but a good story, impressive effects and a decent lead actress could make it do well.

I just thought of something. If they make this one, should they bring back Jerry Goldsmith's score like they did John Williams for Supes?

well there's something we can agree on

from how i understood Jordacar he/she was arguing with GL1 at who WW's target audience are, with one saying its just the guys and the other "exclusively" at the girls.

what i said was that WW isnt aimed "exclusively" at the girls, not anymore anyway. she may have started off as a feminist ideal, but there's always that part about her franchise that is trying to be inclusive to all-- girls AND guys. you can have a hundred different reasons for why WW's armor looks the way it does (greek inspired and all) but it still reveals a fair amount of skin-- a big attraction for the boys, realistically speaking. you're not really attracting girls with the skimpy outfits (not most girls anyway), however powerful writing and a decisive character does. that's the big difference between white-jumpsuit WW in the 70s and white-jumpsuit WW today.

so again, going back to the question that started it all, who is WW's target audience? is it just the guys or just the girls? i say both, because here is a franchise that actually looses its essence and effectiveness if you focus on just one particular demographic.

now as for Supergirl, well, it can focus primarily on the teengirl audience, since that's what her current comic does, but certainly this is a character that can targeted to a wider audience.

your both saying it is aimed at a more general audience but women would be more attracted to WW than doctor fate/green lantern etc..

As for wonder woman's costume- it never bothered me because she's always like that- she's wonder woman. Its iconic and something that shouldn't change.

As for supergirl, there is a whole teen girl audience out there that comic movies don't usually cater too. If wonder woman is held back yet again i don't blame warner for filling the gap with supergirl in the meantime. i don't know any other female DC characters that could hold their own in a solo movie.

Excellent point. Come to think of it, I suppose that since Supergirl is a teen (currently), she could potentially be tuned to that teen audience more than Superman could, especially teens who aren't as into the comics. Or maybe I'm way off, again.:woot:

damn right!

in fact, they shouldn't even bother making a new score at all,
just reuse the original Goldsmith score,

one of the best scores ive ever heard,

it truly is awesome that score!

if they didn't use the goldsmith score, it would be a disgrace

its time for a new supergirl movie complete with the original jerry goldsmith bombastic score

no need for pretenders like john ottmann when the real deal can be re used!

the big question is whether they can find someone as good as Helen Slater was.

She was only 19 when she made the movie, and still is the supergirl of our generation.

I cant wait for the new supergirl.
And they should definitely cast a girl , not a 30 year old !

i watched that last night- if that was released these days her acting would be mauled by critics. I love peter o'toole in it though and visually slater was perfect.

Dominique Swain would have been a contender a few years back but she's in her mid to late 20's now.

New saw Supergirl when that came out. Though I did have a crush on Helen Slater when I was little. I was so in awe of a girl having all those powers that Superman also possesses.

There are plenty actresses that have that look in Hollywood or a BETTER look that fits the more modern Supergirl.

Unlike Superman, Supergirl is a relatively easy role to cast.

While Marvel characters make it to theaters on a regular basis, most of the DC Comics superheroes haven't quite been faster than a speeding bullet to film production -- aside from Bats and Supes, most of them have been fitted for new tights only to wind up in the Phantom Zone.

Is SUPERGIRL getting ready to bust out? According to a tip from 'Lip', it could be so -- apparently Warner Bros. has already commissioned a script for the younger, blonder and breastier Supercharacter. They've supposedly even started contacting managers and agents about possible ladies for the curve-hugging blue bodysock, and we hear BATTLESTAR GALACTICA's slinky Cylon stunner Tricia Helfer was on the list of possibilites.

Of course, Helfer (however hot) is around 33 years old, so I'm not sure she qualifies for SUPERGIRL (I believe the current comic book incarnation is college age), but it does sound like the character herself is once again on the 'To Do' list at WB -- that is, unless our source is somehow confusing it with WONDER WOMAN, rendering this entire rumor moot. It is probable that this theoretical new version would completely ignore the cheesy 1984 movie featuring Helen Slater, and also not be related to the current film manifestation of SUPERMAN.

For all you BSG fans, Helfer will be back in the brain of Baltar for a fourth season, which will likely be the show's last.

Thanks again to 'Lip' for the tip!

Extra Tidbit: There have been murmurs over the past few years about the possibility of a SUPERGIRL movie, with names like Melissa George and *heehee* Mischa Barton tenuously linked to the part.
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?! NOT ANOTHER ONE!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!:wow::wow:

Shes ugly and REALLY short.

I wouldn't say "ugly", I mean, she's far from hot, but, ugly, is a bit harsh
and I also, wouldn't describe her as being "REALLY" short, she’s like 5'6” ish (that's about average for a girl, its not tall, but, not really short) but, with that said, I don't know about her as supergirl, don't see it happening

Agreed. However, from what I've read, the current Supergirl is 5'5". So whoever they cast, I don't think height is going to be a problem.

for like a 16-18 rage i wouldn't mind seeing
Leven Rambin

Lorraine Nicholson

Sara Paxton

I guess, just some names of young blond actress who might fit, (don't know much about they acting ability, never really seen much of there work)

Out of those three Sarah Paxton is the only acceptable choice with talent and looks

She looks uglier than Chloe from Smallville -_- She isnt right for Supergirl.

The Legion is a good idea though; but Supergirl shouldnt be the leader.

it hasn't even been confirmed yet- lighten up it might be good.

or i might just think you don't like powerful women:cwink: :p

Megan Fox would be frickin' hot for Supergirl and/or Wonder Woman.
