Trying to decide this has made me realize what a great year for gaming it's been for me. I didn't really get into the new generation of systems until about a year and a half ago, and it's really been phenomenal. I probably put over a hundred hours of game time into each of RDR, ME2, Fallout New Vegas, Borderlands (was that the year before? If not, that badly needs to be on this list), Bayonetta, and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. I'd have trouble choosing which was my favorite with a gun to my head, but I think I'd have to say Red Dead Redemption would have to get my vote for overall achievement, and for satisfying a genre craving that I've had for ages.

Red Dead Redemption. I loved basically everything about the game, one of the best video game experiences I've had in a while.

I was rather wondering when the year old thread would be un-sticked and this one would be. :D

I had to go with Mass Effect 2. Felt more fun.

Movement controls in RDR are just too annoying, personally.

Iv heard that complaint before and I think it's because players aren't used to the speed. The game is a bit more methodical. Johns normal speed isn't a run like a lot of games protagonists and some people get frustrated that John isn't constantly in a run like so many other game characters.

I really don't mind the movement in Red Dead (or GTAIV) personally, but I totally understand why some people would dislike it; With analog sticks, there's no reason whatsoever to have a run button or to continually tap it to run faster.

Mass Effect 2. It's not even a question.

Eh I disagree. I can't stand when a players default movement is a run, especially in more authentic title like Redemption.

You misunderstand. I don't mean the default movement should be running. I don't like that either. But with analog sticks, you can have walking and running on the same thing. Tilt it forward a little bit to walk, tilt it all the way to run, and click it in to dash.

I dont mean the speed although that is kinda annoying. I meant the incredibly wide turns they make. I can't make a quick turn around while running without making a gigantic U-turn. Really angers me when I'm on a building and I run right off the roof -.-

Yea, i got that and im not a fan of it. I dont like holding the stick at the half way point for long periods of time. For instance when i play Hitman, i tend to walk through the areas instead of run and i just get annoyed holding the analog stick at the half way point. I think the characters default speed should be a walk, at least in some games, Redemption being that type. If you want to run, add a button for that. But again, i dont favor that for every title.

Well if you slow down you can make those turns. At a full sprint however its not as easy, nor should it be. Try to make a quick turn while sprinting, unless you are Chad Ochocinco, chances are you aren't going to cut very quickly.

I love RDR but the movement is one of the worst things about it. I find it hard to go into doors or climb ladders at times bc John is so stiff with his movement. It gets annoying trying to control him

Same here, I just started the game recently and was quite disappointed with the movement and control..

The story better be DAMN good or else Im chalking this up as a huge disappointment. So far Im not interested.

I've only had one problem with movement and that was when I was trying to get John to go up a narrow set of stairs. I just couldn't position him in the right spot for some reason.

Other then that, I've had no problems with Red Dead's set up. I'd like it to be retooled for a future game, but otherwise it's not so significant that I wouldn't give it my award for Game of the Year. Rockstar, feel free to put that on new copies of the game.

I'm a sucker for a good western and this game's story completely satisfied that. It's also a beautiful looking game with a lot of detail integrated into the world. Replayability is also a big factor in deciding if a game is GOTY worthy and Red Dead has plenty of that. I've got quite a few Stranger missions to complete, not to mention all the challenges and plus there's also the ability to just dick around a murder everyone in sight.

Yea the control isnt that bad, its just some arent used to the more deliberate way John moves. Even if the control was bad, the story, visuals and voice acting are more than enough to solidify this title as the years best.

While I loved Red Dead Redemption, I'll have to go with Mass Effect 2.
It's just a incredible game and it delivered beyond my expectations.

I had to go with "Assassins Creed: Brotherhood", best game I played of the 2010 releases

I just realized I never voted and now RDR and ME2 are tied up. :o

As of now it's Red Dead Redemption. Red Dead is easily better than any of the GTAs. The story & it's characters are amazing, the gameplay is so fun, the open world is easily one of the best in video game history & John Marstion is one of my favorite game characters of all-time.

I got Mass Effect 2 for Christmas, but I want to beat Wolverine & Batman:AA before I start it.
