Given that the studio has already got Goyer and Snyder to return prior to MOS grossing $134M on its opening weekend... I'm positive that WB will set a release date for the sequel next week. If I were a betting man, I'd say as early as Monday afternoon.

Seeing as how mid-July has been very good to WB since 2007, probably the empty spot of July 17, 2015. Or since that MOS broke the June opening record, maybe even June 12 or June 26.

My money's on July 2015, personally. I'd be surprised if it was earlier than that.

Next week seems so fast. Did they even do that with TDK?

I think it will probably be released in 2016 because 2015 already has Avengers 2 and Star Wars. And given by the critical response of MOS, I think WB will want to come up with a better story.

I think we'd all be very surprised if MOS 2 came out next year haha.

Really though i hope they don't rush it. 2016 is a fair bet, i think 3 years should be enough time to get everything in place. MOS can't afford its sequel to be inferior or have an Iron Man 2 scenario come about.

No, WB will have this ready for summer 2015. Goyer has been working on the script since late February this year, and his involvement was publicized only a week prior to MOS coming out (a smart publicity move). Marvel didn't do that for Iron Man 2, they set the release date before getting the writer in. They're not rushing the script, which is key.

I don't think WB will accelerate production of the sequel any faster, although Fox did whip out X-Men: First Class within a year once they got the Thor writers.

Even though it's a slim chance of it happening, I would love to see MOS2 be a late March or early April 2015 release. Just to keep things interesting and beat The Avengers 2 to the punch.

2015 is actually viable as a release given the fact that Man of Steel did not finish shooting a few months ago, but over a year ago. That's a pretty standard time lapse for a franchise.

It would be over shadowed in 2015 as well, I mean you have A2 and Star Wars coming out that summer. Assuming they keep a june date in between those 2 films it would end up like TASM between The avengers and TDKR. Regardless of how well MOS does those films will be getting all the biggest attention.

2016 would be pretty much be its year for itself. I also don't see WB wanting a fall release or Spring relase as you suggested.

Screw competition, I'm hoping for a 2015 release for MoS 2. Snyder even said it himself, that there isn't enough time to wait going forward with a sequel. What about a december 2015 release?

That's possible, provided that Avatar 2 will likely need two years of post-production time alone (if they do start shooting early next year). But I wouldn't count against WB doing a third Sherlock Holmes for Dec '15 instead. I honestly don't see the problem with a June or July 2015 date for MOS 2 though. Superman as a viable franchise has been restored... I think it'll do fine sandwiched in between.

But you look at a film like The Hunger Games... it made an insane amount of money in the spring time (March 23). $152M opening weekend, and a $408M domestic cume. You'd expect that from a second film in an established franchise in the summertime, not the first entry in springtime.

I don't know if Snyder has the pull now to make MOS 2 a spring '15 release like his previous pre-MOS films were, but if he does... wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Superman, is not going to be overshadowed by anything. Look at the reaction it has got in just a matter of days even with very average reviews. I hope they go for a Christmas time release. Doesn't matter when, the sooner the better.

Thinking November 26th 5 days after Mocking Jay Part I.

I don't think that's going to happen, as promising as that sounds. Cavill is filming Man from U.N.C.L.E. this fall, have Christmas/New Year's off, and the earliest we'll see him in the cape again is spring 2014. (Then again, WB is running both productions so they can accomodate him to do both if they chose to.) And WB can accelerate production for holiday 2014 -- but they'll have to spend through the nose to get CGI done on time (especially during a shorter post-production time table). Overspending does cut into profit margins.

WB learned their lesson about overspending... they're not going to rush the sequel out. They'll take their time with filming and post-production, just like they did with MOS. I would say at the earliest we'll get MOS2 is spring 2015 since Snyder is already doing prep work and Goyer has already done several drafts. (And if Cavill is ready by January 2014, they'll have plenty of time to make the movie on time and on budget.)

But WB will want to keep this in the lucrative summer schedule, even if its competition is pretty hefty.

That is the biggest load of ******** ever. There is no way this is really happening.

Avengers 2 would benefit from that if its the only superhero film that is going to be released in the summer.

Regarding the 2014 release, maybe they could do it and make it a Christmas release?? That's the earliest they could possibly do it I imagine. Here's a wild theory: they could have been filming both movies simultaneously??? I mean they've been at it since 2011 and keeping it under wraps yes?

I'd love it if we got JLA in 2015. That way my dream of the three way box office nerdgasm war between Avengers 2 vs Star Wars VII vs Justice League might actually come true. XD

But seriously though, JLA this early might work and probably be more favourable(especially with regards to Batman who instantly get butts in seats and as a general marketing opportunity). Just watch from 2:28-2:50. [YT]KbYr5o9by_E[/YT]

Realistically, I don't see any way they get this out by 2014. Without it being crap.

No. Do NOT have it come out in 2014, this was my favorite superhero movie and just -- just NO! Unless they've been working on the sequel quietly so we haven't heard about it, just no way. That would mean severely limited time to work on it which means a mediocre film at best, no films that are that rushed ever turn out good.

That being said, I don't think Warners would be that odd to make it come out next summer. It's impossible.

Yeah, big no-no for 2014, that would be too rushed. But 2015? I don't see the problem.

I think it may have been possible they have been working on it quietly. Who knows really. I mean aren't some studios entitled to their secrets?

Yeah I still see no way they can get this out in a year. Virtually impossible.

Look how long this movie took to make and come out.

Aside from it just not being feasible how desperate would that make WB look that they feel the need to do an extreme fast-track on the sequel for next season? As if they have nothing planned for next year or that the public will forget superman if they wait longer than a year between sequels.

I almost feel the rumor was started by a rival studio just for that reason.

No way 2014. If that were to happen they should be getting ready to start principle photography like next month. Don't see it happening, no way, no how.

MOS2 Summer 2015 all the way, WF or Batman reboot 2016, maybe WW or Flash Winter 2015/2016. JL 2017 (If they don't do WF before then I say WF summer 2017 and in that case then JL 2018. MOS3 2019.

we probably won't get any confirmation until Comic Con, but i am guessing Holiday Season 2015 (November/December) or Summer 2016
