I'm upping my estimates.
I'm just hearing too many good things about it not too, and how everyone wants to see it.

I'm swinging for the fences here.

OW 155 to 160 mill
Final WW take. 850 ( ish ) mill.

Early estimates were $155m - $175m opening dom. I think $175 is a long stretch, but with all the positive buzz, and if WOM spreads quickly enough, $155 is certainly possible!

I definitely can’t see this not opening above $150million and up the wom is too good and the marketing has been excellent

All I know is that on a Tuesday night in Maryland the IMAX movie theater was sold out with families just to see Superman for a 7pm showing. I can’t imagine there will be less people for today, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Superman reminds of Terminator 2 and Independence Day as a crowd pleaser and summer popcorn flick.

The theater I normally go to sold out all the good seats before I even woke up to buy the tickets on the first pre-sale day (I woke up at 4AM) ended up going else where, and this theater was also sold out and jam packed! I can't tell you how many Superman shirts I saw!

There were more people in my IMAX theater then it was for BVS on a Friday afternoon opening day and that made 166 million that weekend. I am interested to seeing what the final weekend box office is going to be because I don’t think anyone has a clue.

You realize if that estimate turns out to be accurate, it will put the Snyder Bros, in the hospital, Right?

Movie opened slightly better than Man of Steel in Italy on its OD.

€431k vs €425k

That’s Twitter talking.
Well, no, I am speaking about the very real world preconceptions that the average joe and non-geek teens have about Superman (and the previous modern takes floundering for different reasons didn't help with that).

But you should also know that I've been nothing but a cheerleader for this movie, so I'm not trying to bring negativity, just staying level headed as far as the box office is concerned.

In fact, the Italian box office is pretty much what I expected. Not a box office miracle (for comparison, Jurassic World opened with 921k last week), but solid, and just slightly better than Man of Steel.

Might break out more in the US, though.

To me it's not too bad. Man of Steel opened on the 19th of June in a pre-covid era. In general I think it is the maximum a good Superman movie can do today in Italy. In my opinion the word of mouth is good and there are good changes to pass the 5m mark. Man of Steel did 4.7 if i remember well. Superman Returns did 5.3 in 2006 but we are talking of a different world.

Superman Returns , which opened at 440k, was also released in September, outside of the "summer window" (which can be difficult in Italy).

But yeah, like I said, it's a solid start. It's not the miracle smash opening that for example Barbie had (with €2.1m in its first day).

Thanks. but no, no they're not. Not even close.
I missed BvS by a country mile.
I do think, judging by audience reactions, that this will do more than expected.

BvS was so messy that it was impossible to predict

Guys the low end seems to be $115 million for the opening weekend domestically. If it makes over $100 million it will be an excellent start to the DCU considering comic book fatigue and the disappointment of all recent DC projects other than The Batman. Don’t get upset if it doesn’t get to the giant estimates. Remember the Spider-Man reboot with Tom Holland coming off of his introduction in Civil War made $117 million its opening weekend. This a Superman solo movie by the way even though the haters want people to think Supes isn’t the lead in his own movie.

If word of mouth is strong, and it opens up a little low... It could end up being a Guardians 3 situation. Iirc, that opened pretty low and ended up around 850-900 by the end of its run, didn't it?

Having a decent opening and strong legs would be great. Seems possible based on reviews and current audience ratings.

It opened with $114m domestically. So not low, but lower than Guardians 2 had opened. But yeah, it had strong legs and did great internationally, as well.

Kinda rooting for it now to have the exact same opening weekend as MoS and just leg it out to a notably higher total. That would be a delightful narrative for me, personally. :funny:

With F4 on the horizon those legs will be effected, so let's not tempt that. Thankfully it looks like it should be opening higher. Potentially a lot higher.
